While visiting Twilight at the Castle of the Two Sisters, Princess Celestia discovers that the Princess of Friendship has found a book from her past, and an account she may not wish to remember.
Nopony has ever questioned just what would happen if chaos magic was released into the world without someone to control it. So what happens when the one who's always controlled it is suddenly unable to even feel chaos magic?
Tartarus is silent, and the world above is suffering. Finally, a ruler faces her last, and largest regret, before she faces what is consuming her eternity, and somehow, this manages to bring her peace.
Wow, this made me feel somewhat sad, even though I don't particularly like darkish stories (at least, when I'm not looking for them), especially when characters die (the Mane 6 in particular) .
By the way, nice touch on the ending; I liked how you kind of... combined, for lack of a better word, "The End" as in the end of a story — which fits in quite nicely with what Tirek said, so even better — and "The End" as in the answer to Celestia's question; very nice.

P.S. I feel this picture of the wasteland from "The Cutie Re-Mark" fits perfectly with my image of what Equestria looks like in this story.

P.S.S Accidentally double posted so deleted my first comment.
I added this story to the Underappreciated Story Society and Buried Treasures.
Could use some polish.
