The strange frenemy relationship between Vinyl and Octavia is one of the more interesting of FoE's relationships. I'm not even that much of a tentacle fan, but I liked this very much!

TOWAN I generally love your stories however I absolutely loathe FoE. I'm not going to give you a dislike because I love the rest of your other stories however I simply can't bring myself to read this as generally they make me feel depressed and FoE gives me a Why-boner that disturbs me greatly.
So... yeah. I like dark stories but FoE is fucking brutal in my opinion. And I simply can't bring myself to like FoE.

My Fall of Equestria stories are said to be tamer than the main ones, so it is not quite that brutal. But if you don't want to read it that is okay. It can't be for everyone after all. I in any case hope you will like my future stories!

I'll give it a try if like you say it's not as brutal, but I'll never like the FoE series. I mean I know that some people find that appealing but I'm not one of them. If anything they make me feel oddly guilty.
But regardless I love all your other stuff. And honestly if your FoE is tamer compared to the rest I might give Rainbow's Punishment a chance as well.

IMO, Fall of Equestria is one of the 3 grimmest universes (The others being Fallout Equestria & Conversion Bureau (The ones where Celestia is committing genocide, not the ones Estee writes))
Okay. Well compared to some other FoE stories... this is softcore by comparison at least in my mind. Though I did not like the Purple collar ending. Well if Rainbow's Punishment follows this trend you'll probably be the only FoE author I actually like.

I take it you've never read Blink. Unlike the others, the majority of the work is 100% compatible with canon and is deeply disturbing.

According to the search engine, there are 123 Blink stories. I've read some, but by no means all. Which one do you mean?
But, I'm referring to the overall world being dark not the events of the specific story. For instance, The Secret Life of Rarity is pretty grim (Think My Little Pony meets Dexter) but the world isn't bad. Pink Eyes is set in Fallout & that's pretty grim. The protagonist is an undead foal & wanders a post apocalypse wasteland looking for a mother that died 200+ years ago. But, she's a happy-go-lucky sort who doesn't worry about stuff like "how does Count Horse Tile (her nemesis) keep finding me?"
As P J O'Rourke put it. "Don't confuse the specific with the general. Even on VJ Day you can fall down the stairs & break your leg -or your neck"

And it was originally only meant to have a Purple Collar Ending, but I had this Red Collar idea and found two separate small endings to be rather neat! 
The Commissioner agreed so that now people pretty much can choose their favorite slut ending!

What I think makes Blink grim is that the world is grim- the fact that teleporation, a relatively-ordinary (if rather advanced) magical technique, has this horrible background to it that each pony must discover and rediscover thousands and thousands of times.
Interesting story, specially with the chose your own ending bit. I will agree that this is soft compared to most Fall of Equestria stories, something that I'm trying do as well with my own FoE story, Fall of Equestria; Hope in Bleak Times.
Perhaps a listing of the collar ratings (author's notes, maybe?) because not everyone knows what they mean (me, for instance)

Anyway, I want to thank you, as this sort of helped me with a private tentacle story
Not bad for a short one shot. However, I think if you were trying to show that there is still part of the original personality within red collars, given the scene before the competition and the touches you put into the red ending, then really Vinyl should be more bothered by the purple ending, at least at first. Maybe she grows into caring for and enjoying the new being that is in Octavia's place, but given how close they were, the fact that Octavia basically doesn't exist anymore should upset her for a little while.
