Derpy and Pinkie fight over which is better. Applejack gives them the idea to mix the ideas, and soon, the two ponies have made nearly a dozen recipes. Upon discovering this idea, Twilight realizes that it could be a big opportunity for both Pinkie and Derpy, and advises the two to go into business.
However, neither really know how to finance a business. Unsure about how to manage such a thing, the idea is nearly scrapped: however, Twilight offers her services. She hypothesizes that it would be a great opportunity both for them and for herself: they would make tons of money, and she would be able to learn things about economics. Perfect material to send letters to Celestia for, right?

Derpy doesn't have a canon character, so she can't be out of character. Applejack..hard to judge, since her dialogue isn't even in quotation marks half the time. Pinkie Pie is in character just fine, because Pinkie Pie's character can include just about anything.
Also I want a cuffin now. Neither name sounds all that great, though they are the logical word structures. Mupcakes just make me think of tasting a mop.

I found the story entertaining. Because that is the sole reason I read on here, I will be awarding a thumb uppy thingy.
I didn't notice any major grammatical or spelling issues, other than the obvious term for a cupcake/muffin hybrid being a "Cuffincake" Am I allows to post links? Meh. I'll remove it if mods give me flak for it.
What was I talking about? Oh, right. The characters were decent and I could imagine a scene like this in the show. The story could be a bit longer and feels a tad rushed, but it's not a big deal for a story this short.
There were a couple things that bugged me , but I know that I'd never be able to create something as good, so I'll keep my mouth shut.
I could go on, but I'm starting to ramble and I want to go to bed.
I would definitely recommend it to someone looking to spend a few minutes reading without wanting a long or difficult read.
Edit: I spent twice as long writing this as I spent reading the story. I think something is wrong with me.
I had an idea for a fanfic titled "Muffins" where Derpy makes a "franken-pony" completely out of muffins and brings it to life. It was going to be the polar opposite of "Cupcakes" (pony kills another pony, makes cupcakes. Incredibly bloody and grimdark VS. pony brings another "pony" to life with muffins, incredibly goofy and random)
I want a mupcake, cuffin... whatever they are.

Sorry though, I didn't give you my full thoughts on your story. It was very easy to read, which are my favorites. I also love how Applejack was trying to avoid using "fancy words", and I thought was a nice touch.

On a technical note: While both muffins and cupcakes can share the creaming method when it comes to baking. Muffins, due to their crumb structure, are a quick bread, while cup cakes are, well cake batter baked in cups.

I wonder if you could just bake some muffin tops (they make pans for that) Then bake some cupcakes and use frosting to glue them together. The cupcakes would have to be trimmed or baked with flat tops(but that should be hard as long as your oven isn't too hot).

Well... crap. To be honest, I only picked AJ because I needed a backstory as to why somepony needed cupcakes or muffins or whatever. I'll try to be more careful with that in the future. I don't have southern family, so I can never really nail that accent perfectly. Plus, I've got a major case of OCD and Asperger's Syndrome (aka autism) so I can't help but sound like a methodical person whenever I type anything to explain something. And whenever I try to force an accent, it comes off as offensive, annoying, or sometimes racist (accused of that once). Should I edit it, or leave it as it is?

On Fanfiction.net back when I started writing fanfictions- for Avatar the Last Airbender- I used to have long Author's Notes and nobody would comment on it. In fact, nobody would comment on anything, or offer any CC like everyone on this website. They'd just say 'cool story, update soon' and leave like that. After I moved here, I put a rather long Author's Note on my Twilight Sparkle As A Vocalist story, and got a bunch of heat for it. So, I've been limiting them, and doing other things for flow's sake.

Second of all, Fyre-Flye, Lauren Faust's DeviantART page, made a comment about how ponies reproduce using standard mammalian reproduction (someone else replied and said 'You fool, do you realize what you've done!?'), so they do have mammalian genitalia, and since they are sentient, intelligent beings, who have all the same sex organs and nerve endings, it may still be an innuendo. But, I'm not doing an adult humor story; this one will be more like the show, like an episode (Megan McCarthy, if you're reading this, you know what to do).

Nope, I've actually never encountered any crossbreeds of this variety. I just mixed cupcakes together with muffins. Seeing as ponies live off of plants, hay, and baked goods (or bads).
They're the South Bend Rollergirls (I think), and Killamazoo Derby Darlins, from Indiana and Michigan. They don't do anything overseas, sorry. It's not a big team, it's small; just in relatively big towns.

a poll of test subjects preferred the name muffcakes (although in the interest of scientific accuracy I should point out that the test group of 3 was 66% lesbian and had had a couple of beers before the study began, this may have skewed my data*).
