Nightmare Moon's return heralded a new age of darkness for Equestria. Celestia did not stand a chance, but contrary to most pony's expectations, a cold and thankless night was not their fate.
Nightmare Moon kept warmth, heat, and life, moving through the land, probably due to some fell magic. In this new landscape, ponies need to find new lives for themselves, and Chatelaine is one such pony.
Thrown from the castle, she becomes a delivery pony to make ends meet. This delivery goes out to a village in the middle of nowhere, where she finds darkness has taken on a new life, and the village is more dangerous than she imagined.

Ah, a dark and tragic tale indeed! I guess my one question is why our heroine decided to get so deeply involved instead of running? And I don't mean toward the end, when she was fueled by grief; I mean after the first trip to the river. Seems like that would've been the moment when her character as-presented would try to get away.

Fear of the things in the dark that attacked her to begin with. It's been a while since I wrote this, but if I recall, the idea was that she was too frightened to leave. I'd have to re-read it to remind myself. Apologies.

No worries; I should have caught this when it first came out. I’m trying to catch up on my Read It Later list after letting it grow much too large. It’s a treat to see all the stories you’ve written in the meantime.

Glad you're keeping up. I'll keep them coming as long as I'm able.

It’s like village of the damned meets that weird movie about the living darkness...

Ahhh a story taking place in the NMM alternate universe...
Wait... I recognize this one...

Hah! Fancy meeting you here. :derpytongue2:
Should have guessed you’d take interest in a NMM alternate timeline. :trollestia:

Am I typecasting myself too much? :trollestia:

I remember this story. I like this! It’s a bummer that Waxworks has largely moved on, but at least we still have the stories.

I ain't dead. I'm just not writing pony fanfiction anymore. I come by to check every now and again. Working on Hagwarders if you've ever heard of it. http://www.hagwarders.com/. Got the comic coming out which I'm writing, and some separate stories. All things which I am allowed to sell and work on when they're complete.
