"Be good to yourself, because nobody else has the power to make you happy."

E

Twilight has done many wonderful things in her life, from saving the world on multiple occasions, making seven of the bestest friends ever and having the most well polished set of silver cutlery this side of Equestria.

One teensy problem though: none of it is actually real. As she's about to find out...

A Truman Show parody. Nice.

I've never seen the movie, but the concept sounds interesting. I'll track this!

Interesting. I seen the Truman Show but didn't like it too much. I think this will be really good.

Nice story so far, I'm gonna track this. :ajsmug:

Yay, a new fic, lets see how Twi deals with this interesting development! (I'm guessing not very well, given previous records)

To be honest... I absolutely hated The Truman Show. I didn't care how well written it was, or how great the acting was; the premise is simply horrifying.

Just take a moment and think about it. Everything he'd ever known had been manufactured, his whole life -all the way from his earliest memories- was nothing but a lie. His friends? Actors. His parents? Actors. His coworkers? Actors. The random people he passed on the street? Actors. His wife? Actor.

And what was so important that it justified putting him through this? Entertainment.

What type of world would allow for something like this to happen, let alone persist and be broadcast for decades? If it were to ever happen IRL:

Wait and see....

I always wonder a story like this will show up. I love the Truman Show! Great movie

I have to wonder that in certain case in the show with Twilight like when she turn into stone that she was to close on finding out the truth. Also, from the chapter It sounds like that the show actually made Twilight into a powerful Alicorn by mistake and giving her cutie mark also by accident.

Oh! I wonder when Rainbow Dash did her first Rainboom that it wasn't suppose happen which could had damage the dome at first than after seeing everyone loving it they kept it.

I don't think Twilight would be able to accept this. She would go crazy nearly immediately.

Twilight has been told and acted her whole life as a special being. For all that to be scripted, would just destroy her. For as humble she is, she still uses her accomplishments as pushes to keep going. If those disappeared, I believe she would find no reason to go on at all.

I have one question: Will the story play out like it did in The Truman Show, or are we going to see more of what she does after she leaves?

it wasn’t easy carolling

Corralling? Although they do sing a lot, I suppose.

And I could kind of see the outdoor studio growing as Twilight brought more money in. First, her family's home and maybe the immediate surrounds - possible sets or building left over from a previous production, for Twilight: A Canterlot Story. Then, after much popularity, the new set of Canterlot Castle, after the incredibly popular season-ender (and cliffhanger) where she hatched Spike.

This was where we got Twilight 2: Royal Student, expanding on the character of Princess Celestia (previously only a background pony), and a bunch of extras playing her classmates (probably unwittingly) and assorted castle personnel, with Shiny being her guard big brother. There were probably all kinds of little B-plots involving bumbling guards, gossipy maids, cynical cooks with hearts of gold, and assorted ambassadors and other royal visitors whose antics always somehow managed to pass Twilight by (or be misinterpreted).

There's only so much material you can squeeze out of a bookworm and near-hermit character, though, even with the help of Spike and Celestia. So another shot in the arm was needed, and with an infusion of capital, we get the next large-scale set (and almost complete character renewal) as Ponyville becomes the new base for Twilight 3: At Her Majesty's Service.

The popularity of this new direction for the series allows a lot more in the way of sets to be constructed, even if some of the background characters there tend to be the same ponies from Ponyville but with different hats and accents. It proved such a giant money-spinner in terms of merchandise that we got Twilight 4: Junior Princess, and many episodes from 3 and 4 were reworked and sold in a pack as Twilight and Friends: Monster Hunters. Equestria was able to be expanded a lot, and many other species were able to be introduced to increase the show's appeal to more cosmopolitan viewers. It was even able to successfully boost ratings of many of the network's other shows via crossovers: Trixie's Travails and Sunset Schooldays both started picking up more viewers, as did Changeling Capers and even Power Ponies. And of course the show has given rise to many of its own spinoffs: Luna After Dark, Manehattan Style, and of course the long-running soap opera Canterlot. The next generation of cradle-to-grave super-shows are already rating well, too, with Scootaloo and Friends mesmerizing younger audiences, and Growing Up Royal showing strong responses in the grandmother demographics...

Okay, so I guess I should watch it? :applejackunsure:

It is not essential to enjoy the story, but I would definitely recommend it.

Need. More.

My question is more about Twilight's magic, is it fake or the real deal? I think Twilight's magic being 100% real would be more fun, even her ascension. The drama of "what if she found out the truth?" Would glue viewers to their sets. I could see Cadance and Shining Armor breaking down at her prodding, both because they genuinely love her and the a producers might want to do a spin off with Flurry Heart. Imagine seeing someone you knew since they where a child being used then told "we're ganna do the same with YOUR kid". I could see most of the main cast actually caring about Twilight, having played their characters so long that it's not entirely an act any more.

Take the sailboat Truman Twilight!
Clever crossover, can't wait to see how it develops.
Great writing!

did this story use to have more chapters to it ?
