Hello and many salutations, I am a writer/ editor who has been stalking stories here for a few months now and finally gathered the courage to make an account. Cheers!

T

In Granny "Grand" Smith Apple's relative youth she experienced one of the most legendary pony industrial disasters of all time.

The Maresburg Frosting Flood, where over 400,000 gallons of multi flavored frosting burst from improperly built confectionary vats. It flooded the entirety of the Coreington Hay district, including Trottenham street; an area mostly populated by poor farmers and factory workers.

The culprit was the Mare and Friends Confectionary Company on Frostingham Court Road. In the ensuing disaster, many were lost.

This is Granny Smith's account of the tragedy from one of her many journals.

Temporary cover image is from the historical Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. Story was inspired by both the London Beer Flood of 1814, and the Molasses Flood in the cover image of 1919.

Note - Updated rating due to chapter three. I could have sworn I set it to T initially.

This is an interesting idea. But I think Granny's accent is a bit overdone considering that this is a journal. Most people don't transcribe their own accents.

Thank you, the concept itself is something based off of real life historical events. Equestria is in a sort of Industrial era in the show, or went through one in the past. It's impossible that such an era went off perfectly with no disasters, hence The Frosting Flood.

The accent is meant to infer how stressed Granny Smith is, the more panicked or upset the stronger the accent. Think of it as an emotional meter. Ones writing style can be similar to speech in certain situations, but particularly during times of extreme duress. Her "country" writing style though is just how she writes. It's part of why she wants to send her potential daughter or granddaughter to the city to learn how to write and speak "properly". Sort of like how my great grandmother spoke and wrote in a heavy baroque accent, then insisted my grandfather learn to write and speak in "proper English".

This also ties into the FIM storyline and Applejack being in Manehatten with the Oranges during the first sonic rain boom.

As for writing styles not mirroring speech, that depends on the person, pony, or creature in question. Also remember, Granny had an injury when she was younger according to her (in the story). I won't reveal much because it would spoil the next chapter, but it is important.

I hope you enjoy the rest of this piece of history through Granny Smith's written words.

The London Beer Flood of 1814 or The Boston Molasses Disaster of 1919? I know there is a documentary on there about the industrial era disaster floods, which indeed inspired this story. Those two are merely the most famous of the many industrial flood disasters of that era. Interesting fact of the night/day, in 2013 another Molasses spill occurred in Honolulu Hawaii; it devastated the sea life in the area of Honolulu Harbor. Sadly, it is still unknown exactly how long reaching of an impact that spill has had. It's quite horrid to think about, that such things still occur in this day and age.

The Maresburg Frosting Flood Disaster is to my knowledge not on YouTube, unless someone decided to do a read of it and didn't tell me. I would be quite miffed if that happened.
