The Wandering Bard

"I am a singer, a poet, a musician, a storyteller. I am a bard at heart. That is who I am. That is what I shall always be." (Icon by atokota on FurAffinity)

Everypony has someone who influences them, changes their lives. For Lyric, that someone was Finner, an old stallion who lived by the sea.

This story was greatly inspired by the song From Finner by Of Monsters and Men.

Many thanks to these wonderful people for helping to turn this story into the best that it could be: KellyTheDrawingUni, Protopony350, Kirito-Persona, MelancholyIguana, Will-Owl-the-Wisp, and Haycart.

This could go to so many different directions... This Finner seems like a fine mysterious guy and more travelling bards and inn stories are never a bad thing. You definitely have my interest for the upcoming chapters
Also, just a question... does this take place in Lyric's past? The mention of the cloak, combined with your avatar picture, as well as Lyric tumbling little during storytelling makes me think so.

Thanks so much for your comment, Everfree! I certainly hope that you enjoy where this story will lead in the end.

And as for if this takes place in Lyric's past, it does! This is a somewhat younger and more inexperienced Lyric, so I'm glad to know that these details came across.

8099558 Hah, I see then. You're welcome, my friend!

Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy the rest!

Interesting. While I'm more into stories with comedy and a fast-pace (If you've seen my own stories, you could probably tell), this looks fascinating. Although, I'm wondering something: Is this taking place around the same time as the series? Or is it in the past? Or future? Maybe if I had read the stories before this one I would know...

By the way, Bard-sensei, why do I get the impression that Lyric is a clone of you? :ajsmug:

8112621
I'm glad that you find it interesting so far! I hope that you continue to do so.

I imagine this taking place a few years before Luna's return, when Lyric herself is a bit younger than I imagine her to be.

And you'd be surprised at how many people say that. :twilightsheepish: But, no, Lyric is my OC, and so an entity completely separate from myself.

8112631 Ah, so Lyric is not the pony that was was supposed to write a song about my bravery but instead wrote a song about me being a joke! Come on, Bard-sensei! They were GIANT CENTIPEDES!

This could easily serve as a tutorial for new writers and storytellers of all sorts. Good chapter, looking forward to the next!

8114395
Indeed! Though I did also try to make it geared more towards Lyric herself. :twilightsheepish:

And thank you! Hope you continue to enjoy!

A chapter filled with spine-chilling and heartwarming moments. I think that nothing more needs to be said. Well played, very well played indeed.

8128864
Thank you! And thank you very much for the favorite! I'm so glad that you liked it. This was honestly one of my favorite chapters to write.

As always, I hope that you continue to enjoy the story!

8128872 You're welcome! And at this point, I think I can already say I'll enjoy this story till its very end :ajsmug:

8128875
We shall see, my friend. We shall see. :ajsmug:

Interesting. Though I question how much truth is in Finner's story, considering it implies that Celestia and Luna were born alicorns when, in reality, Flurry Heart was the first to be born one. Hmm. Well, it was a good story regardless.

On a more sour note, I have the feeling Finner doesn't have much time left in Equestria. :fluttershysad:

8130616
Well, it seemed to me that, based on what Celestia said in that episode, Flurry Heart was just the first alicorn to be born in Equestria, so I've always theorized that Celestia and Luna were born as alicorns outside of Equestria. But there could also be a few stretches of the truth in here as well. :raritywink:

8131007 So, Celestia and Luna aren't from Equestria? Hmmm...

Oh, by the way, did you get my message about the my story, Starlight and Trixie's Punishment? I figured that you would like it since... Well, you'll know if you read it.

8131029
That's just my theory, of course.

And I haven't read your story yet, but I will soon! I did see the message, though. It's just been a busy past few days.

8131219 I see. Well, I can't wait for your reaction when you read it!

8131259
I will absolutely let you know what I think! Same with your ratings lists, too!

I saw that coming... and it was still heartbreaking. :fluttershysad: That was beautiful. Well done, Bard-sensei.

Though I wonder what could be next...

This ending could have been expected, marked by Finner's cough. However, that doesn't change anything on how tear-summoning, yet heartwarming those final scenes were. Masterfully done, really. Now, I'm more than ever intrigued to see Lyric continue her journey.

This story will surely be a memorable one for me.

8144282
Ah, foreshadowing. But really, thank you.

......Was making this a separate chapter really necessary? That was less than 200 words. You could have just put it at the end of the previous chapter. ::unsuresweetie:

Oh, well. Congratulations on a well done story.

8146361
It was a stylistic choice, and I wanted it to be a proper epilogue rather than tacked on at the end of the last chapter. I'll go into it more in depth with my next writing reflection.

Still, thank you very much. I'm glad that you enjoyed this story.

A great ending, seeinge Lyric learn and hone her skills in rememberance. Thank you for this story :ajsmug:

As I said before this was my first time reading a story like this and I really enjoyed it. I am definitely going to read some more stories like this in the near future.

8163095
You are very welcome. Thank you for reading and enjoying it.

8169130
It's an honor that you decided to give this one a chance, and I am very glad that you enjoyed it. Thank you very much.

Great story!!! I have to listen to more Of Monsters and Men now!

8690870
Aww, thank you so much!

And yeah, they're really great. I love how their songs all feel like stories of some kind. I love Dirty Paws and Slow and Steady for that reason.

8690877
One of the better bands of today I say. The Dear Hunter is a really good band that has that similar kinda style. I recommend them if you haven't heard of them already.

Anyways, I gotta start reading your other stories because I can already tell you are a fantastic writer!

8690887
I don't know about them, so I will definitely check them out! Thanks for the recommendation!

And oh goodness, thank you so much! I hope that you enjoy the rest of them!

8690898
Im sure I will! Keep up the good work friend!

By the second chapter, chills ran all over me. Of Monsters and Men is my favorite band. And when you made a reference to the song by quoting "Keep yer head held high!" That was the final blow. I love how well this fits together. :fluttercry:

Well done!

I am so, so sorry that it took me this long to see your comment! I really appreciate you reading and I thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad that you think that this all fits together well. And if you read through some more (if you haven't already), you'll find a few more small easter eggs from the song hidden in there. :raritywink:

Thanks again!
