Bat ponies. They are a part of Equestria just as much as any earth pony, unicorn, pegasus or alicorn. They make up Princess Luna's guard. But not much is known about them. Where did these ponies come from? Who were they before? One ancient tome, penned by an explorer of a time long past, tells all.

Just a personal opinion by the way, these sort of short prolouges can be rather annoying to first time readers. (Trust me I know, first story I ever did.
)
But, you did alright with this one. It was a good length, it worked as a first chapter well, characterization was nice, and it setup the story!

although having them be mutants forcibly transformed into batponies seems a little odd...
oh well...they have new powers that are beneficial to them, don't have any feathers, and can presumably survive off more than just plants and stuff (yes horses and ponies can eat non herbivorous stuff, but its not that good for them) so their diet is more varied and sustainable for longer

I have to say, so far, the earth pony OC I've created for his story is honestly my favorite OC so far. A lot of what draws me to specific character races is because they're actually less exotic. I'm a sucker for stories about underdogs and such. Earth ponies don't have the wings or magic, so they make do with what they have.

Well it's funny that you mention the color closer to Lyric's, because my original incarnation of him had him as a distant ancestor of hers. I scrapped that idea out of fear it might make them too much like "special snowflakes". The beard and voice like Patrick Stewart though... Interesting ideas.
