This story is a sequel to More Than a Memory
Velvet's sickness was perhaps the least endearing quality about her, and yet when it became apparent that her health would only continue to deteriorate, it seemed to be the only thing that her close ones seemed to concern themselves with when they spoke to her. Instead of filling their last days of her with lasting memories of who she was and the passions in her life, they would ask her how she was feeling or tell her how they'd pray for her well-being. Her friends and associates distancing themselves from her so as to prepare for the worst, possibly out of their own fear of death, she becomes more alone in her final days. The one exception to this is her dearest friend, Pen Name.
When Velvet had first met Pen Name, a name he'd given himself when he'd finally made his mark in the world of literature, at a coffee shop, he had only just started out in his career as an author. Though he lacked experience, the funny witticisms and profound passion he shaped into his stories moved her in a way that inevitably led to them growing closer as friends. In her dying days it was the memories of their budding companionship that she desired to make long-lasting once she was gone.

Thanks. I think I could have made it slightly better by sticking to more conventional methods of narration, but the format of a letter provided a unique experience for me that I couldn't pass up, and it seemed to be the most suitable follow up sequel to Nugget's piece.
What I am especially fond of is the quote at the end though. I'm sure some variation of it's probably been used before, but as I wanted the quote to be my own words, I refrained from doing research on the content of the quote during its construction.
If you're interested in reading more of my content, I have another piece (a satire) I am currently working on, relatively early on in development, that will be coming out some time soon. I'm spending more time on it than this piece in the hopes that I will create a seamless and more widely enjoyable story (not to say this piece wasn't enjoyable).
Not that I am paying that much attention to my ratings, but I find it oddly amusing that I have received more followers out of this story than likes. Never-the-less, I am glad you found some entertainment out of this one-shot as well as anyone else who liked it.
This was a great follow up to Nugget's piece. You wrote it wonderfully, Chill.

Whoops, I was just trying to state that I was now aware of the difficulties of writing a tragedy. I must have accidentally and unconsciously advertised. Oopsie.
8090995 I was already planning to read this for a while, you just sped up the process by reminding me it existed. If you didn't mention this story, who knows when I would've gotten to reading it? But eventually, I still would. I'm glad you reminded me about it then, because I really enjoyed it.

Neat!
Good words to live by.
