"Show my head to the people, it is worth seeing." - Georges Danton

E

Garble won the gauntlet of fire and now seeks revenge against Equestria. The only thing standing in his way in a single Alicorn princess.

A short what if scenario that I came up with.

The issue I have is Celestia couldn't even conjure a shield to keep the Changelings out of Canterlot, let alone a shield for this swath of grassland the story indicates is the main route into Equestria. She made Shining Armor keep up the shield, even though it was giving him terrible headaches.

Someone turn this into a short comic please. The "DINK" part is just too perfect.

7299836 Actually, it was Chrysalis who was giving him most of those headaches.

Another "Godlike Celestia beats enemy nation singlehandedly" story, really?

7299903 That's true, but everypony thought it was from him using his magic constantly to keep the shield up until Chrysalis revealed herself. So if Celestia could have offered him some relief, she should or would have.

Honestly I don't understand why any other species would even consider Equestria a valid target. Even if they aren't warlike they still control the weather, vast stretches of food production, the sun, and the tides.

That is a valid point. Though I also subscribe to the fan theory that Celestia purposefully screws up to create opportunities for Twilight and Cadence to grow in strength. I think honestly the only time we see her display real power is in Lesson Zero?

Always fantastic to hear someone liked my work that much.

Your criticism is valid. I apologize that you didn't like it. Was there anything specifically wrong with the fic or was it just the fact that it is an overused plot device?

7300369 The problem was quite literally: War wuz declared, Celestia goes out, beats the enemy, forcibly circumvents their peoples ways to elect another. Done, roll credits.

It doesn't add anything new, it comes off almost as lazy because you've seen this sort of scenario play out in story format again, again, and again all while doing the whole "Touting the superiority of the godlike ponies" that we've never seen in the actual show.

At the very least we don't have supreme condescending ruler as it tends to be, but there's really nothing here that hasn't been played out many times over, there's no real variation to this story.

7300369 The thought of her holding back crossed my mind, though if she is (and she isn't dying or something and that why she's trying to strengthen her subjects) then she is playing a very dangerous game with the lives of everypony.

What I did find plausible in this story is that Garble really would be that stupid to lead a vanguard of dragons on a full-on frontal assault like he did here. With the number of forces he had, attacking Las Pegasus and Manehatten from the ocean with two armies and then sneaking in with a third from the south through the Everfree would have been a better strategy.

I respectfully disagree with that. Garble's character from both the Gauntlet of Fire and the previous dragon episode seemed incredibly brutish and boneheaded. I think he would have the hubris to assume he could take Canterlot in an all out assault.

7300629 Oh, I guess I wasn't clear - that's exactly what I'm saying; he's boneheaded enough to lead a full-on assault from one attack point and think he wouldn't lose the battle. :twilightblush:

7300640
Ohhhhh sorry, I misread plausible as not plausible.
Yeah, that's all on me. XD

7300355 Well, you can't expect a princess to do everything at once...

The power of the alicorns, before they have been deemed too OP and nerfed by the Delta Hotel X-ray gods.

This is how it should be. A pretty fun read too :pinkiehappy.

Should have anhilated Garble :trollestia:

Nice little story here, I like it.

Eh... I'm okay with that.

Usually this kind of story turns Celestia into something that she isn't and overdoes it by making her seem ridiculously overpowered or be powerful in a way that is so circumstantial that is effectively useless. In this story, she's, instead, simply powerful. This story makes me think that this would be possible in the cartoon if it didn't hate her.

So have a like.

You know if garble was sent to tartarus where Cozy and Tirek are, it would be interesting to see such an evil alliance come in motion in season 9
