Whisper's the kind of pony nopony seems to notice very much. What do you expect with a name like Whisper? Its not all bad. She could easily call herself content with the life she has. But when Princess Luna pays her a visit, Whisper is offered a job that would change everything.

But is Whisper ready for something like this?

Hmm, very interesting concept. I honestly think this could be made into a longer story. There are places to explore with this idea.

Like, why does Luna need these guards when she patrols the night? How many guards are there? What would being one entail?

I wouldn't mind seeing more.

I've got to flesh out a lot of details like the ones you're asking about if I were to expand this into its own little fanfic saga or universe or whatever word you'd use for it. The Dreamscape does allow a lot of room to play around though, so I'll probably expand on things at some point.

Interesting. This is the second piece of fiction I've read that centers on defending dreams from nightmares. The first is Star Guard featuring Pipsqueak.

I was not aware of any others like this. I'll have to give that one a read soon.

I personally would love for you to expand on this. It presents an interesting idea and I think that the idea of giving up, basically, their mortality is something you could expand on alone. Perhaps certain ponies said yes because they didn't feel they were leaving anypony behind, perhaps they have to take a lot of time contemplating it.
Whisper also seems like an interesting character whom I would not mind seeing more of, especially learning more about her cutie mark.

Your cliffhanger ending was perfect! So I assume she joined? And may I make a version of this using my oc? Not the one in my profile pic, but a different one...

Well, judging by people's reactions, I'm probably going to expand upon this to create a Dreamverse story soon. I rather enjoy the idea, actually.

Whisper will be in the story as well, so she did say yes.

As for making a story using your OC, go for it. The more the merrier I say.

7187193 Sweet! I'll work on it in the morning! I'll write it out in futhark I'm a journal and then transfer it over! I'll drop pic hints of I can figure out how to work the system using the email thingy...

The premise of what a pony gives up to join the Dreamguard was one I struggled with. I wanted something that wasn't a cut and dry scenario.

I'm really glad you liked Whisper. People liking my characters is (in my opinion) one of the biggest compliments I can receive about my writing. Oddly enough, the Whisper in this story is an altered version of a character from a Fable crossover I never published here. I got about 3 chapters in and decided I hated the story, but I liked the characters so I filed them away in one of my note folders.

This idea was really interesting! It's beautifully written (at least in my opinion) and I would love love LOVE fore you to expand on this! :twilightsheepish:

I've decided to move forward with a full-on story that expands on this. I should have the first chapter up in a few days though.

I have an idea for this one (feel free to use).

The statues in the castle garden... They are all Dreamguard. When an initiate's tie to their body is cut and they enter the dream world, their body is petrified and put in the garden. This way when they retire, they can go back to it and live the life they lost. Of course the world has moved on in their absence, and no pony would remember them, but their service would remain. I'd say bring them back with a noble title. (This would also help balance the nobility, making it easier on the diarchs)

That's not a bad concept, actually. I hadn't thought of doing anything like that.
