Spike's unfaltering desire to be "Helpful", especially to Rarity causes him to incur major injuries that will take time to heal. It is throughout his recovery that he learns the true meaning of friendship as his pals come to his aid by proving he is appreciated as more than just an assistant. He further comes to learn how having limitations doesn't mean he is any less useful and/or appreciated.

Interesting that the CMC is spending more time with Spike than the others.

He has to do something for the CMC after they helping him up his morale.

Ooops! My "Screen Reader" had a bit of a whoopsie there. That is why the first reply is blank. :(

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this story. MLP is a great way to share feelings through creativity.

All good things take time. I thank you most kindly for your well wishes. Truly, it is having all the support I do, whether verbalized, or not, which gives me the strength and determination to push on through anything. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on this story. :)

The reason I chose to focus on the CMC spending time with Spike is how, as I've perceived it, they are all about the same age. Adults, like Applejack, Fluttershy, Twilight, etc., have a lot of responsibilities and would have not as much time to dedicate towards just spending time with Spike as he healed. The Mane 6 and other ponies would certainly stop by, share inspiration, etc., but I felt the CMC would be the best due to how the ages are about the same along with how they learned their mission, thanks to getting their Cuite marks, is to "Help Others". :)

I hope this makes the CMCs role in the story make a bit more sense. The ending was kind of a way to show how Spike managed to become an honorary CMC member thanks to all the time he spent with Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo.

I'm one of those who really believe Spike needs to spend more time with the fillies and colts. He's often held to adult-like standards in his duties, but he, in my opinion, deserves to enjoy being a kid, too. :)

“Why are you sorry, Spike?”
“For making you cry,”

Wow, this bit of dialogue really got to me, and is exactly how I would expect Spike to react. :fluttercry: Bravo!

I'm very happy to hear how you enjoyed that part of the story. It was goal to make the scene in the hospital emotional, but more on the "Feels" than a time of sadness / depression.

Spike, in how I interpret him, would never want to come off unpleasant around Rarity, or any pony. He's a sort who likes to make others happy and is upset when he may have caused any sort of trouble, sour feeling, etc. So this scene was quite pivotal in setting the tone for the rest of the story.

Thanks so much for reading this tale and sharing your thoughts. It is very much appreciated. :)

“I don’t know, Twi,” he teased. “I think it is a very distinct odor.”

Ah, there's the peculiar, inscrutable, stinky-clawed dragon we know and love!

This was a nice story, kudos to you for managing to get it written in your current state. I hope your recovery is as smooth as Spike's was!

Thank you. :) I most certainly had fun recalling Spike's interest in smelling his feet from "Spike at Your Service". As I've heard people mention that things can get a tad smelly after wearing a cast for so long, I thought throwing that element in would make the moment more humorous. :)

My overall recovery has been slow, but steady. I'm honestly lucky I have the opportunity to get any vision back, because the procedures had a very high likelihood of completely blinding me as they removed two infection risks. (I've had over 40 eye surgeries in my life and my eye just is getting worn out. I also was born with an ocular condition, known as Glaucoma, in which doesn't help matters)

Thanks again for your time in reading and commenting on this story. It is deeply appreciated. :)

I liked this, even though I hate Spike/Rarity, though I did find it odd how his own mother or even aunt didn't visit him, still enjoyable even if there are many errors.

Dawww and as a cripple myself (lol) I can relate
