They do jobs just as dangerous as Spartans without the power armor and genetic augmentations of Spartans. Ive heard in multiple places that even Spartan 2s think twice before messing with a fire team of ODST with their gear. Im not entirely sure about this but I have heard that even master cheif gives them props for being some of the most intimidating people he knows. Either way just know this...... ODSTs have a earned there place in the badass hall of badassery..... Especially the 105 hell jumpers
