At the head of the cavalry was an African-American man with a large beard wearing an officer’s uniform.

I doubt that anyone in late 1860's through 1870's would be thinking "African-American." The likely polite term would be "colored," the more common terms "black" or "Negro," and we all know what the impolite term would have been. "African-American" was coined sometime in the 1960's or 1970's, and did not become popular until the 1980's or 1990's. I'm guessing if you'd said "African-American to someone in ~1870, he would have thought you meant someone born in Africa who now lived in America, and this was no longer the case for most American blacks, as large-scale importation of African slaves had mostly died out after the Slave Trade Act of 1807 and the piracy laws of 1820.

Purely a technicality, but the jarring anachronism of "African-American" jumped out at me and knocked me for a while right off the willing suspension of disbelief. Yes, even compared to the talking orange pony, because I'm used to her, and this is FIMFiction.

Xenomorphs, eh? Well, Weird Western Tales (after the earlier examples of Robert E. Howard, H. P. Lovecraft, and Edgar Rice Burroughs) basically spawned the "Weird Western" genre, so why not?

6301988 I didn't think the narration needed to be constrained to the time period, but I'll make the change.

6302009 To be honest, I was ripping off the movie Cowboys and Aliens a bit there.

We liked the start of this fic, and shall read the rest later on. Nice touch on making A.J. larger then her usual size. We are looking forward to seeing what sort of trouble these two get in.

6302108 Thanks! I got the idea of the large-scale ponies from "Dead Eye Darling" where Rarity is large enough for a human to ride.

We really like the plot twist at the very end. Well played.

Overall this was a great little story. Loved the interaction between Jonah Hex, and Freeman. Ya did good. Upvote again if we could.

6337836 Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

I have a sequel planned, but it won't have xenomorphs in it.

I loved the the part where Jonah kisses Applejack
