Sorry to ruin it but both Rarity's parents are unicorns: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Rarity, take a look at the parents section. But, when I think about it, it makes sense that one of them could carry earth ponies genes, ugh, getting too confusing for my dumb head. Great work

Neither of them are unicorn or pegasus, but Pound and Pumpkin Cake are. Both Rarity's parents may be unicorn, but it doesn't automatically mean she is not part earth pony.
