Flim and Flam find themselves back in Ponyville, without any bits to even produce one of their infamous schemes. With nothing left to them, they decide they have to find real jobs. After an argument, the two part ways in search of employment. Flim finds himself - of all places - at the Apple family's farm, where Applejack thankfully lets him do farm work for food and board. Flam, meanwhile, runs into the Great and Powerful Trixie, who hires him as a stagehand after he repairs her wagon.
What really surprises the brothers is when they begin to fall for their respective employers.
Takes place after Season 4, I guess. Just wanted to do a romantic fic, since I have a horrible tendency to make those. Enjoy the crack ships, I suppose.

It's a good start, and you're avoiding the trap of writing characters too spiteful, so I'm curious to see where it's going.
I also like the notion that the ponies consider their adversaries/rivals/enemies a kind of unconventional friends. It's a nice touch.
For a quick "crack-ship" this is well thought out (in my opinion); Flam had always been the smooth talker of the two, riling up the masses to get them excited while Flim has a knack for instilling the trust factor and more personal connections with the marks. The crowd hyper that is Flam really is perfect for Trixie while the more personal Flim relates well to Applejack.
