well, NMH is a real band, they're essentially the first band you go to when you want to get into underground music. They pioneered a new era of indie folk in the late 90s and they are a decent introduction to some of the weirder and more obscure stuff the world of music has to offer. Hipsters are fond of the band, so pop culture tends to make fun of them for it.
