Well, not my thing, but well-written. However:
This line irks me. One could debate over the necessity of "bashfully" in here---I won't---but the repetition of "shy" made it seem stilted. That said, almost fine thousand words and that's my only crit? Not a bad job at all, scribe-feather.

Simply an expression. The phrase wouldn't have made sense if I used the word 'hooves'.
