The message was way too subtle. This is what happens when I work without a pre-reader. I added a bunch of stuff that should clear it up.
As for how they connect, all of these stories (these and future ones) have the theme of love running through them. There's no arc or framing device, because I'd hate to start over at this point. They all just share a theme.
Both chapters so far have dealt with non-romantic love and that is just freaking awesome
