The Fields of Ice

Hello Everyone! If any of you met me in real life, I doubt you'd know this by looking at me, but I love reading and writing romance stories. My favorite ships are Spilight and Spike x any CMC.

For hundreds of years, the ancient quarrels between dragon and pony had been put to rest under Celestia's reign. However, after a simple land dispute on Equestria's border turns violent, dozens of ponies are left dead at the hands of dragons. As outrage over the event sweeps the nation, a strong divide between the two races is beginning to reemerge. To make matters worse, many ponies have begun to question the princesses' response; calling them too soft. Some have even decided to take matters into their own hands.

As the situation escalates, Spike has found himself growing evermore isolated. Every time he steps outside, he can't help but find at least one pony looking at him as if he were covered in the blood of the victims. Though, through these trying times, Spike has only been able to hold onto one constant: Twilight. But no matter how tightly they hold onto each other, will it be enough to see them through the days ahead?

Well this has caught my eye. I wonder where this will go. I bet Rarity will not want to be with Spike because he is a dragon and because of recent events. Hell she might even give him a hard time about coming to her shop because people wont come to her if they think she has ties to a dragon:duck::ajbemused:. That would be a strong enough cut to make it where Spike wont feel anything for her and give Twi enough room to walk into his broken heart. Helping him fix it as they become closer and closer while they are in hiding. I know he will be struggling with if he should love Twi or not but I hope he doesn't act too hesitantly with his affections. It is always sweet seeing tender moments between the two of them.:moustache::twilightblush: Anyway great work and can't wait to see what else you have for us.

I loved this, a job well done.

i knew it was only a matter of time before you popped up with a Spilight  good job

yay

Looks like trouble is on the horizen, and when people are on the brink their true emotions often come to the forefront.

Favorited off the description alone. :twilightblush:

Could use some work, but so far it's good. :moustache:

Dark..........sad.......and a SpiLight you'll now well find this story....
Gonna hand it to you Ice loved the story gives the chills and warmth of love and pain....Keep going!

I am so looking forward to this :pinkiehappy:

4372150 Oh famous where ever there is Spilight I can find you. :rainbowwild:

4375240 correction: wherever there's Spike, I'm there :raritywink:

JC

There's a decent amount of Spilight to be found out there, but high quality Spilight is another matter. You're definitely one of the better authors of it, though, so I have high hopes for this story.

Celestia can control a massive ball of fusing hydrogen that outputs more energy in a second than any would-be dissidents. I think if anyone tried anything, Celestia would not be afraid to put her hoof down. I'm not saying that this is bad or anything, but suspension of disbelief is important.

4379747 That may be true, but Celestia is a benevolent leader. I doubt she'd resort to controlling her citizens, out of fear of becoming the evil she has fought several times. A personal rule really. She can control everything, except for the will of the ponies.

Hmm, this sounds very good, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter

Fair story thus far, but would like to see what direction it's heading.

Now this looks like fun! Can't wait for more.:moustache::twilightsmile:

You've got a sound story and it makes for a decent read but I personally can't subscribe to any world in which a pony can beat a dragon. When your idea of dragons is pulled from Tolkien and D&D stylized dragons like mine is the concept of even a 100 unicorns posing a threat to a dragon is simply laughable.

Either way thumbs up for spinning a decent tale.

Looking forward to the next chapter :)

overcame my fear of the Dark tags to give this story a chance and I'm liking it so far.

One thing thats bugging me though, is spike starting this story in small bipedal form like from the show and then growing into the larger form from the cover or starting from this larger form? I'm asking because I know that he's prone to growth spurts but also because I'm finding it hard to believe that ponies could find his smaller form threatening.

I'm pretty sure that it's gonna go romantic with Spike and Twilight. Enough foreshadowing has been done that it will go that way; all it needs is a catalyst, and this issue with hating on dragons would be it. And we both know that when push comes to shove, Rarity is gonna take her reputation over taking a chance---even if that chance could get more benefits (and problems) in the long run. And that decision she chooses seems to be amplified because Spike is a VIP, whether its his fame/notoriety of being a dragon in a predominately pony society, or his assosciation with Princess Twilight and indirectly Princesses Celestia and Luna.

It definitely warrants more views as it develops.

Awesome. I love racism/prejudice in Equestria stories and this looks like a great one. Love the subtle touch with the biased media and dirty looks in public. Eager to see things get worse...it doesn't quite look "anti-dragon pogrom" bad yet....

4371432 We shall see. Also, thank you.

4372150 And I have a dozen more ready to go. And thanks!

4373671 Those three types of stories are my speciality. :pinkiecrazy:
I'm glad to hear it. I always try to get my readers to feel.

4373988 I've been looking forward to writing it, just wish I had more time.

4384123 Generally dark, but not too dark, but still pretty dark...

4386300 Well, you must realize that magic, in some cases, can outweigh strength. That being said, most of the dragons living in Equestria are the smaller type. Many are, at the most, as tall as Celestia. The rest have left simply because there isn't enough space to live alongside ponies.

But thank you.

4391083 Thanks. It's shouldn't be too long.

4417110 I get the whole magic thing but like I said I come from the school of D&D dragons where those dragons are perfectly capable of using extremely potent magic because of their advanced age and knowledge. In D&D mythos dragons were among the first sentient races to even toy with magic.

4396516 Oh, don't worry; it's not that bad. It's mostly just really emotional... In some really messed up way.

No, he's still bipedal. The only difference is he'll be taller. The form portrayed in the cover has nothing to do with the story. I only chose it because it set the mood rather well.

4409112 Oh, don't worry, things get bad fast. It's about to go from the 1960s deep south to full on Nazi Germany.

4417073 Keep going Ice this is awesome!

4417136 I don't want to spoil too much, but it'll begin to make since. You see, most of the dragons who are fully grown, in this story, are rather barbaric. They fall more to primal instinct than reason and understanding. Throughout the story, Spike tries to challenge this by showing that the way the ponies are acting paint them as the barbarians, and that he, as well as many other dragons, don't choose to follow this path. That's why they can be taken down; their greed never made them much larger than Celestia.

4417170 Oh your using the shows version of how dragons grow larger. Well surface to say that notion always left a bad taste in my mouth. I like to add a modicum of logic to my fantasy and the idea of greed being the driving force of how something grows or shrinks is just to ridiculous for me to buy into. Still I respect your abilities as a story teller and wish you the best of luck on this fic.

4417225 It does for me, as well as many other people, but I see it as more of something to play around with. Just because something is stated, doesn't mean it can't have statements budding off of it, which can be inferred or interpreted differently. From those interpretations, one can add many more branches until the end result is so far from the original statement, that eventually the person who disliked it to begin with, may find this variant enjoyable.
Also, thank you.

4417314 Eh we old school D&Der's are just a stubborn breed. We like our fantasy the way we've known it for years and new stuff is scary. I mean hell 5th edition is quickly coming up on us and most people are still playing 3.5 edition. Breaking my idea of what dragons in fantasy are supposed to be is just hard because I'm a stubborn old fool.
