Relationships are hard. It can be the bond between friends, the blood held in common with family, or the love between lovers. All are equal complexity and take time and work from all ponies to maintain. Sometimes that breaks down and a pony has to find away to come away as unscathed as possible. Scoots faces such an issue. Meanwhile Rainbow Dash must confront her own fears and come to understand how connections can change. Mac just goes with the flow and tries to hold everything together as stoically as possible, but even the most even tempered pony can be driven a little mad by a silly thing called love and its compactions.

I failed. I was trying to go for Scoots being the mature one without her being too mature. Going for, "I love my mom but, she sucks sometimes. And sometimes she doesn't think about me."

Yep, the name of the movie is Second Hand Lions. One of my favorites. I loved he more or less one-sided conversation at the beginning of the movie so I took it as inspiration for Candy's and Scoot's conversation.

My biggest issue is that of back story. I don't know weather I should continue from here and then have a back story arc later on or to use my current chapter one as a middle chapter in the story and start from the beginning. I want to start from the beginning now, but I don't want to disappoint my readers, ie you guys and gals.

4092336 I guess that would depend on who you want the main character to be? If it's Scootaloo, you might want to keep the story as is, so we readers can learn things as she learns things.
To go back to Secondhand Lions again, I see the kid as the main character. He learns his uncles' arc and learns from it and uses it. If the uncles were the main characters it might have been more exciting to start from their beginning than tell the whole thing in flashback.

It's not to hard. The cool thing is you get to read it before anyone else. The not so cool part is letting me know about obvious word confusion and comma splices and stuff. But, I'm not looking for a grammar Nazi. Just someone to catch the obvious stuff. If I wanted a grammar Nazi I would have asked for an editor and not a prereader.
