I feel like I wrote this, except I'd make it darker...describe how the apples tear the ponies bit by bit, and how, if they were really eating, they'd leave something behind.
I can't help but feel I was the inspiration, but I don't know. The premise is so close to my story that I almost could call you out on it, but I won't. Mine even has the same title except Peaches.
I can't link it here because -EDIT: I dont know why I confused this with another of mine, but it's definitely NOT dark and vorey. thats the Twilight Snack story. Anyways...yeah, mine was comedy/random, and I might've confused the fics, but I have a story similar. it's in my stories list.
You did good, though, at trying to put dark where it shouldn't belong, and it works, kinda?

I probably would have made it darker, except it was for the EqD Writer's Training Ground and one of the rules is no objectionable content, so that means no gore.

Ha! Don't worry too much about it -- one thing you'll quickly discover as a writer is that at the end of the day, there are very few (if any) truly unique ideas. No matter what you come up with, someone, somewhere in the world, has thought of something similar at some point. What matters is how you pull it off.
