That was what I was thinking through the story.
Spike better hope he isn't discovered by this. Ponies would probably try to ask him to counterfeit bits and jewels to try to get free money, and eventually the entire economy would go bad just because Spike made too much.
And then the book was the Grimorum Arcanorum, and Spike became an evil wizard dude.

Though you said you don't have the intention of continuing the story; do you think you could make an epilogue where Spike suddenly stops being as oblivious as Twilight so that he can just think up and make another book :o? Unless you're going with the idea that he has to know all the contents of the object to be able to make it. Neat short story either way~
