As for the comparison, in my defense I only read some of his earlier works when I was a kid and stopped reading them once they started to go downhill and I found out about the author.

Yeah, I used to love Xanth, and I read a couple of his other things, but after a few dozen novels, I started noticing a lot of the same themes, none of which I was comfortable with reading anymore.
It was written well enough, but you didn't get so much as an upturned lip, I'm afraid. Running joke Rarity was the closest you got. It was one of those cases of me acknowledging what you were doing, but not really feeling it. That you didn't make one Complementary Penuts joke ("Your mane looks nice today, Twilight!") was a colossal dissapointment, in addition to the general lack of punnery for that matter.
I'm going to have to side with Rainbow Dash for this one. Cheque please.
