A man whose made his career in the manipulation and entertainment of other people, whether it be by the slide of hand, a tap of the shoulder, the picking of a lock, or the usage of another persons voice, gets sent into an equestria where the humans are non-sentient. They are treated as common house animals and are viewed as such. Will his lifetime mastering the art of deception be enough to secure his survival, or will he end up on a lab table?

What is magic typically channeled through? Some form of keratin. Hence witches, warlocks, and (sometimes) liches with long fingernails. Or long horns on magical animals, such as unicorns and gods becoming sacred animals such as bulls. Not to say that minotaurs should have magic, but it's probably present in their muscles and the large horns on their head help them absorb more magical energy from their surroundings.
Now that I'm ranting, may as well say that I would put money on Amias' nails growing longer to a certain point where his magic becomes more focused/potent.

3010560 Not really slavery when the slaves are just animals, this here would be animal cruelty, bad but not quite as much.
What I'm anxious for is to see Fluttershy react to this, and more importantly how she will respond to Amias, since she is talented with animals, being able to "communicate with them on a completely different level", it would be interesting to see if she sees anything wrong with Amias' act.
I also wonder if he will now go back to his "get sold to a rich person, brain wash him, and live in the laps of luxury" plan or if he will get involved in animal/human rights.
Things are starting to get even better, hopefully he doesnt let twilight go all crazy science happy on him.

On another not, FLUTTERSHY IS BEST PONY!! Absolutely love her (if a bit frustrated with her at times), and she reacted pretty much like I thought she would to the caravan, just expected a full on faint, but I guess then she couldn't have done any of the other stuff. It will be interesting how long he can keep his intelligence from everyone, he probably can't go brainwashing the whole mane 6, particularly Twilight, I can see her somehow sensing and resisting any such attempts.

Don't know if it's just me, but it feels like these chapters are just to damn short, which either means that it's their to short, or their so good that they just seem shorter. I'm leaning towards the later, but it is only ~2,500 words. But it's something, probably better than anything I could write.
