A good Queen's job is never easy; if the world doesn't challenge them, they'll challenge themselves. Luckily, they have others that they can rely on to aid them.

But that can be hard to do, especially in times like these. The Cultural Exchange Treaty has thrown Changeling Hive Chrysalis into a radical state of change, and no one is sure how things will turn out.

But I am sure of this: I care, and I'll do whatever it takes to help her.

This story is a sequel to Infusions 2: Tea

Things have been rocky for Astra over the past year; now that it's public that her new spouse is a changeling, that simple fact has come to dominate a great deal of her life, and caused no end of troubles for her. The latest of those troubles may uproot them entirely, but even when such powerful forces tug on a person emotionally, there is a stronger force that can anchor them.

Even a person with perfect judgement could make mistakes if they didn't have enough information. That's the one consolation available when you make a mistake and hurt someone; it doesn't mean you're necessarily a bad person.

If only it were that simple. When people depend on you, when you accept that responsibility, it stops being so easy to just go on with your life when you make a mistake. When you realize that you've hurt someone, or let them down, it tears you up inside.

I'm going to keep moving forward, though. The only way to make things better is to learn from my mistakes, and act on that.

(You may notice an anachronism in this image; I urge you to ignore it, as it is irrelevant to the story)

This story is a sequel to The Queen and I, Book 2: People and Problems

Chrysalis had always been taught that a leader should push forward; no matter the setback, no matter the defeat, a strong leader rallies their subjects. They do this because their subjects are helpless without them; without guidance and inspiration, society would fail, and it is that threat which motivates a leader to greatness.

What, then, should be done when a society moves on, no longer needing their leader? What should a leader do if they've become more of a burden than a boon to their own people?

Perhaps how they answer that question is the real measure of a leader's worth.

And yes that's Geralt in Equestria Girl style for infinite justice

Note: Familiarity with The Witcher series is probably not necessary for enjoyment of this fic. There are a lot of references to events from the books (Especially Sword of Destiny), but the important ones are explained anyway.

Geralt of Rivia had a complicated life on The Continent. Navigating difficult political situations, getting shorted by his clients, slaying monsters, and living as an outcast had made things challenging for the witcher.

But now, Geralt has found himself in a foreign land, with foreign customs and behavior. Seeking to do what he has always done – find witcher's work slaying monsters – Geralt is about to discover just how simple things can become. And how challenging the simplest of things can really be.

Friendship. I'm talking about friendship. It's simple, but it's challenging, get it? Don't overthink this. The comedy and random tags exist for a reason. Also, sex tag is for references to sex, not because of actual sex. Get your heads out of the gutter.

Professor Cooke is a pony of principles; anypony who has known him well can testify to that. As an established history professor at Canterlot University, he knows the dangers of opening borders to a hostile nation; his anti-changeling stance may seem harsh, but the safety of Equestria comes first. It's not about the species; it's the cultural dangers of a society of infiltrators, liars, and saboteurs on Equestria's border.

He's going to stand by those principles for the good of Equestria. Nothing can change that, not even one of his closest friends turning out to be a changeling... right?

Have you heard the tales of the gallant Sir Talon? Equestria had never seen his like; a warrior without peer, and a gentlecolt with a wit sharper than his sword, he defended the land from countless threats! No trouble was too minor for such a humble servant of the realm, but no threat was too great for his courage, either!

Though he had been born and raised in a foreign land, he felt destiny call him to Celestia's court; through his mighty deeds, he came to be recognized as one of her greatest agents, but such accomplishment engenders dangerous envy. Even for a noble knight of the realm, things were rarely as straightforward as they ought be; what awaits you are tales of derring-do, intrigue, betrayal, and the burden of a hero whose secrets were darker than Luna's night, so the fainthearted should turn away now...

... for the tale that awaits you may not be all that it seems.

Saro-Terrent is about as far from the manipulative, suave changeling infiltrator stereotype as you can get, but Princess Twilight has chosen him (for some reason) to help bridge the gap between changelings and ponies. Now he needs to give a talk to the foals at Ponyville Elementary about changelings, but there's just one problem:

He's kinda terrified of ponies.

Things have been going pretty well for Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship, lately. She's been resolving friendship problems left and right, and even Rainbow Dash has gotten in on the action, helping Twilight perpetuate her mad schemes (or just outright overriding them). As bold as Twilight has been, though, there are some lines she won't cross, even in the name of helping a friend.

Or she wouldn't, until now. Seeing Rainbow Dash's boldness in handling problems has inspired Twilight to bring her schemes to the next level, weaving a scheme of political intrigue, betrayal, forgiveness, pie, heartbreak, and oxford commas.

This insanity can be read on its own, or you can see the stories that led up to this tragic conclusion:

Octavia Melody isn't what you'd call a particularly adventurous pony, but even she can't resist the temptation to investigate a good mystery – especially when that mystery involves one of her greatest musical influences.

The identity of the great composer 'Cecily Cambirvir' has gone unknown for more than a decade, but Octavia heard a rumor that suggested more information could be found in the Changeling Hive Chrysalis. Against her better judgement, she signs up for the changeling cultural exchange program, and rides the train to the hive with her best friend, Vinyl Scratch.

(( This fic can work as a standalone, but it is an epilogue for The Queen and I Book 3. Consequently, it has massive spoilers for that story. You can check out the entire series by clicking here. ))
