Hearth's Warming is a time for friends and family to come together, celebrate harmony, and welcome the new year. Nyx is looking forward to just this as she rides the train to Canterlot with Spike and Twilight. She's going to meet her extended family for the first time and wants nothing more than to make a good impression. Yet, the sheen of the holidays can't hide the trouble caused by meddling grandparents, relentless reporters, and a paranoid uncle.

The last thing the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well remembered was a foalnapping that had quickly spiraled out of control. Then, to her astonishment, she’d found herself in a place that seemed straight out of an old mares’ tale—a ship that could navigate the stars, sailing a river far larger than any in all Equestria.

She learned that this river, the great Eridanus, was a bridge between worlds—and that some primeval force threatened the existence of not only Eridanus, but Equestria as well.

Twilight has always been concerned about the future, it shows in the way she plans out her life to the tiniest detail, it shows in her obsession over becoming the greatest Unicorn mage that has ever been. She's always wondered about what the future would hold, and so it is for this reason that she suddenly decides that she could, easily, just go and see it for herself.

Is the future the shining vision she assumes it to be?

Or is it something darker? Just how far into Equestria's future does she go?
