Living as an independent DJ has given Vinyl Scratch a rough life. Things are not easy, and they're getting tougher. When she meets Octavia Philharmonica, she finds herself entranced as well as filled with resentment. Only time will tell if their connection through music will spawn a beautiful relationship or a formidable rivalry.

Everypony likes to talk about the beginning of a relationship, how happy they were, how romantic it was. But nopony ever talks about the strains and troubles. After two years of happily -and let's be honest, surprisingly- living together, Vinyl and Octavia are facing their first real relationship problem as life hits them with its harsh reality. Octavia Philharmonica is a desperate mare. Her involvement in the ill-fated "pony pokey" at the prestigious Grand Galloping Gala has left her blacklisted among the elite of Canterlot who form her clientele. Faced with the possibility of being evicted from her apartment for inability to pay rent she decides to take a temporary job at a local nightclub. Of course, she's never set hoof in a club before and has no idea what she's getting involved in . . .

Vinyl Wakes up on the last day of her stay in Manehatten, soon to leave for Ponyville. She bumps into Octavia on the way and they soon realize they are roommates. The story revolves around the two ponies and how they eventually become best friends, or maybe even more than that.
