It is highly recommended that you read What I've Become before you read this story, since this is the second story in The Humanity Within Trilogy, and you will be lost if you just plunge into this without any preparation.

Things have been turning up roses for me lately. I'm no longer fighting to survive, I have people that I can turn to, and I have my face back, all because of the kindness shown to me by strangers.
But will they continue to help me once they find out what dark secrets haunt my past? Will they shun me for the evil deeds that my abductors forced me to do while I was in their service? Will they continue to protect me from the monsters that destroyed my life, once they realize what kind of monster I really am?

Do you see a dark tag? No, you don't. Not dark. Well, okay, there are a couple of dark-ish bits, but that's all. Not enough to warrant a tag. Speaking of tags, there really ought to be "Badass Twilight" and "Friendshipping" ones.

Consequences, they come in all shapes and sizes for every decision. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. These words are lessons that Princess Celestia should know, bits of wisdom she practices in her rule of Equestria. How is it then, that when faced with a decision, she chooses the one that would inevitably bring the most pain? How is it that she couldn’t bear being recognized as the mother of her child? And why? In the depths of Equestria's archives there is a song. A song of a legendary hero, who would keep evil at bay, and rout even the most fiercest foe. This story is a sequel to Lost into Shadow

After finding out a horrible secret concerning Rainbow Dash, Alex loses face, and makes the decision to run away back to earth, in hopes of recovering from the pain he had been caused, and so he could catch up with the family he had deserted four years before.

However, while studying to finally finish the high school he had skipped out on, he finds himself being dragged back to that magical pony world, and the pain it now represents to him.

The inner conflict boils down to a tug of war between his feelings, and his duties.

Also, it doesn't help that he has a jackass in his head that won't stop talking.

But, sometimes you need to smile through the pain, and think about the people that need you. Plain and simple.

A normal day was all it took.
A simple failed prototype, a missed experiment.
There was an explosion, and I woke up. I don't really know what happened between those two events, but I'm fairly certain I shouldn't have awoken in a small, dark box.

I'm scared.

Why does Spike have memories of a time eons past, and more importantly, why does the name ‘Scorpan’ sound so familiar?
