Notes on The New Singer · 2:54am Sep 19th, 2012
Well, I have Gdocs, and tried to work on the story a little. Unfortunately... things just got 20X more complicated in 10 seconds flat. Allow me to explain, dropping ponified names for a second. The very end has some things you may want to know to keep you interested.
Rainbow Dash played guitar with Ronnie James Dio. Sounds simple enough, right? Well...
Dio got his start in 1957 in the band The Vegas Kings. There were a bunch of lineup and name changes. In 1967, he and the guitarists formed Elf, and opened for Deep Purple. But what's the problem? Well, the guitarist for Deep Purple in 1969 was Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore left Deep Purple because he hated folk and funk, and took Cello lessons from Hugh McDowell. But later, he formed Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Dio and members of Elf.
Wait, Cello? Like Octavia? From Hugh McDowell, from Electric Light Orchestra? Yes. I had an entire storyline based on Octavia being in the band Apocalyptica with some Griffins, after being inspired by Hugh McDowell. Why Griffins? Because in my headcanon, Equestria is America, Griffins Kingdom is from Europe- more on that in a second-, and different species of Dragons are from South America and New Zealand. I might even do sea ponies for eastern Asia: China, Korea, and Japan. But, I'll save that stuff for a sequel.
Expect dragon versions of Sepultura (Max Cavalera), Brett MacKenzie (Flight of the Conchords), and Jemaine Clement (aka Nigel from Rio). Expect griffin versions of Arch Enemy, Bullet for my Valentine, Lacuna Coil, Rammstein, and Volbeat when Friendship Is Magic goes overseas. And then, expect drama between Dashie and Gilda, as Gilda will be in System of a Down and Avenged Sevenfold as a backup singer/guitarist, because of Shanna Crooks, female backup singers, and because Gilda would be an awesome metal band member.
Maybe I'll be doing DashXGilda if I do TwilightXVinyl Scratch, unless I do Dashfire. Because Spitfire and the Wonderbolts will be a melodic metalcore band like All That Remains or Killswitch Engage, (Spitfire's guitarist and clean vocalist, Soarin is a drummer) and like Adam Dutkiewicz, Spitfire will manage a record label, Spitfire Records- a real company- and have produced records by Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society, Alice Cooper, Ted Neigh-gent (sorry, couldn't resist), Danzig, and Dio.
Yes, Dio. So Rainbow Dash would have Spitfire as her hero and previous album producer before working with Vinyl Scratch. I've put a lot of thought into this. And, uh, I'm not even close to being organized with it.
I have to put a timeline in for Elf, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Ronnie James Dio, Deep Purple, Hugh McDowell, Electric Light Orchestra, Jeff Lynne (and, by extension, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Prince, and Steve Winwood (AND BY EXTENSION, Traffic, Blind Faith, Cream, Eric Clapton)), Black Sabbath (Dio was in Sabbath for a while), and then I have to cross-reference my music history, geography, and plot, ponify everything, then figure out who I'm officially pairing, then rewrite the first chapters because they suck (er, need revision). And, I need to name the Wonderbolts members to nod to ATR and KSE. And a lot of other things.
My OCD won't let me write this without a bajillion different micromanaging changes, but trust me when I say that it Will Be Written. Eventually. I've just got more focus on other things, like School, editing a fanfiction for a friend who's been waiting a year, manage an OC Insertion fanfiction from before my days as a Brony, my Elfen Lied & Slendermane crossover here on MLP (Pinkie Pie X a girl who is tripolar: one personality is a baby, one personality is a serial killer, the third is just a misunderstood girl judged for her horned appearance), my inspiration of Dante's Inferno, and my story about Derpy's Custody Battle with stuck-up government ponies to get rights to raise Dinky when the Doctor disappears, and my Derpy/Pinkie bake Muffin/Cupcakes story... Oh Celestia, why do I do such things to myself?
Well, I hope that this at least showed you that I've been thinking heavily about this, what with all the cross-references and plans. The following is a list of things that will probably be popular and/or wanted. Have some wishful thinking.
Gilda and Spitfire will be in heavy metal bands.
Octavia will be in a band like Apocalyptica- classical/metal fusion.
Luna and Cadance will be featured, Lyra will become a main character eventually, and the CMC... play a big part later.
Damn, thats a lot of info to absorb in one go but I think I got it all.
