Not Another Bronycon Blog · 11:05pm Jul 11th, 2016
Hah! I did it before you, Biscuit! (I think) A "Not Another Blog" blog! Nyah!
So, yes, I went to Bronycon. I probably should have posted something beforehand so if anyone who I didn't already know was going to be there, they would know to look for me should they have wanted to say hello. *doublechecks the preceding English* Eh, good enough.
Unlike previous years, I managed to snag a room nearby (next door) and didn't have to put up with the hassle of getting back and forth. I could attend in the mornings if I wanted! (Or sleep in and still attend at a reasonable time.)
So, highlights anyone? Too bad! You followed me...
First, the guy second from the left on the Original Characters panel had one of the coolest ideas for initial planning for any character. List their five main traits, two of which must apparently conflict, and three of which must be readily apparent within the first scene of interaction.
So for me:
1: Artistic
2: Particular
3: Enthusiastic
4: Introverted
5: Depressed
1 and 2 are slightly contradictory, and 3 and 5 definitely are. But that's internal character conflict, baby! This is not the be-all end-all of the character's characteristics, but it gets you thinking, and from there you can round out/flesh out the particulars and how their personality works.
Etherea:
1: In Control
2: Inquisitive
3: Rash
4: Congenial
5: Vain
Celestia:
1: Pretty
2: Kind
3: Very Pretty
4: Smart
5: Really Pretty
See how it works?
The single most entertaining "con thing" had to be the Tavern Purlesque. It was clear that this was their first time doing anything like this - *cough*stage too low*cough* - but that young lady as Maud Pie... She's got a hell of a voice, doing her own songs at the same time. And not just sing-alongs either (from what I could tell); she threw in her own takes on her two sets.
She was also pretty and sexy, and stuff. As far as I could tell. See also, the thing about the stage.
Oh, and a very drunk Jenn Blake was the host, with Libman(?) and Larson apparently in the front row.
Actually, Jenn was the best part of the show. I'm still laughing at some of her shit, and how the show became somewhat of an impromptu Larson roast... I hope she's still got a job.
And speaking of personages... G.M. Berrow stumbled on the writers' group photo on Sunday and barged her way into a few of them. If, uh, anyone knows who actually got photos of that group, please let me know!
In the vendor's hall I found that two of (my) legends were in residence.
Baron Engel, the guy who got me into My Little Pony, was there. *fangirl noises*
And I totally snagged the original sketch of Celestia from this:
*louder fangirl noises*
I should really pick up his lucid dreamed Equestria sketch-story again. It's goooood. Like reeeeeeeally goooood.
And then there was this lady: Silfoe
I raided her stash of prints so hard (not that hard).
Source: Celestial Practice 4: Bacchestia Hee hee! You said "Chestia!"
Source: In Defense of Equestria
Soooooooo preeeeeeetty...
Man, if Arareroll had been there too, I dunno' what I'd have done with myself. (Please don't tell me he was.)
My good friend, Admiral Biscuit, was a blast to hang out with. He's what makes Cons Cons for me! And as always, he remains the Premier Purveyor of Pure Crazy.
I finally got to meet two of my favorite authors, Anzel and his wife, Crystal Wishes. I also found out that, despite their vehement protests to the contrary, their wonderful stories are truly self inserts. He's a tall quiet-ish guy in blue and white who knows military stuffs. She's a friendly blonde in white who writes romance (and entertainingly-ogles strapping, burly pegasi zebras men).
The omnipresent https://www.fimfiction.net/user/Zyrian was... well... You get the picture. Seriously, is there anywhere that you aren't? That typewriter, man... You said you'd swiped all the papers? Does that include my work on that one scene?
Shalrath was interesting as always. It's a little scary to think about what he keeps extracting from his head, but never dull. No, certainly not.
There was also the ever-evil Bad Horse. He's not overtly-so - not like you might see some places. It's more like a feeling of "should I be worried now?" You never get an answer, which is almost more worrying than the feeling itself.
ROBCakeran53 was entertaining as always. Seriously, how the hell did this guy ever write one of the most well-known sadfics?
And Cakeran's clone Drax99. Okay, so he's not. I have trouble telling them apart when they're not in the same place. My internal quality control technicians are aware of the problem and are attempting to fix it. Their suggested solution: see you again next year!
Hung out with The Wanderer Himself. He's not as "mod-y" in real life as you'd think.
Met Alexstrazsa in passing. (And probably creeped him the hell out.)
Got trolled by Somber himself. In a good way. The way where you nibble on your own foot a little because you didn't know someone was across the table from you.
Traded thoughts and how-to's with Applejinx. (Don't I feel special?)
Finally get to meet Arad at nearly the last moment of the last day by completely random chance.
There was Skeeter the Lurker, Skywriter, djthomp, Lord Legion...
Sooooooooo many people, sooooooo little memory space available. (I know I've forgotten some. Like the mowhawked, shirtless zebra cosplayer that Crystal was swooning over - had a nice chat with him on Sunday - and the tall guy who recognized my name on the stairs heading up from the main entrance.) Next year, right? Right!
P.S. Heaven help me if Luna-tic Scientist ever makes it across the pond. I'd... probably personally explore how many times you can sequentially explode.
Sounds like this was a pretty sweet weekend.
Funny, Baron got me into Pony too (well, from the "I watched some episodes" to actually exploring all the fan created lore). I always wanted to ask if you've ever seen his artwork because the way he draws ponies, in a dare-I-say more realistic interpretation, is very similar to how you draw yours as well.
Hmm, I think a Baron drawn Etherea is in order.

Oh, god, don't tempt me. I took both Baron's and Silfoe's cards. Because Etherea... I... Money... but...
EDIT: Actually, it was whoever linked Bridle Gossip in the chat section of one of Baron's posts, but who's going to quibble over specifics? I was already hooked on his stuff.
EDIT v2: Does Baron actually take commissions? I don't remember if he said he did, and I'm not seeing anything.
That would be YOUR MOTHER! Your Antagonist.
Couldn't help myself.
PS - Read my garbage ass fanfiction!

Oh, Sweet Baby Flurryheart, how did I forget about you in this blog?! I only spent all weekend hanging around you, one of the most distinctive cosplayers in the whole joint!
My dishonor is great. /seppuku
shachza your a girl?
Yeah, you beat me to it. I went to Assateague Island to see the pretty ponies rather than drive straight back home. In fact, I only got home about a half hour ago.
4086201 The hottest of gurls. wouldbang /10
4085910 I forgive you
Now read my crap... you know, um, if that's ok...
4086201
I am not. What gave you that idea?EDIT: I mean, yes. I'm totally a supermodel like 4087740 said.
4087336
Awwww... Now I'm jealous. I've lived out here for 12 years and have never been to Assateague. /fail
4087748 I am not sure if that is sarcasm so I will treat it like it is not sarcasm. Cause you said fangirl in your blog post.
4087901
Ah. Derp. I fail at putting two and two together. (Like I did in that game of TSSSF on Sunday.)
I was just that excited, y'know?
4087909 gotcha
4087909
Bad, bad Shachza. You should be writting the next chapter of "Love a Pony", not travelling and having fun.
