It was fun!
I honestly think that was the most important thing that the movie got right. It was always going to be different. It was always going to have problems, if for no other reason that it simply wasn't the original (even g4 got its share of nitpicking). But as long as it was genuinely fun, the other issues wouldn't matter as much as long as they remained comparatively minor. My opinion is that this is the other thing the movie did right: the issues it may or may not have (depending on personal opinion) were minimized to an extent that the fun can prevail.
It's not g4. It was never meant to be.
But they kept the core of FiM, and if the next series can be fun in similar ways to this movie, then it should prove worthy to us fans.
P.S. The wings were gorgeous.
The artist in me squee'd like dragon-spotting Fluttershy every time.
