Hitch Trailblazer and Zipp Storm start falling for each other. Meanwhile they must battle the storm within themselves.
A Series of events and a vacation to Zephyr Heights leaves Hitch Trailblazer and Zipp Storm's feelings in flux. Thankfully everypony is willing to help them out in more ways than one. As they begin to enjoy each other's company their worries and fears seem to melt away. Join us in this tale from MLP G5 that shows How does one find love? Well the best love tends to find you.
Will the two come to terms with themselves and confess? Will they work things out? And will they be able to stop the storm from within before it becomes a Hurricane?

How does one find love? Well, the best love tends to find you.
In the dead of night, Zephyr Heights was like a beacon for any passerby.
As a Pegasus chariot flew towards the city to land. Inside was sheriff Hitch.
He stared outside the carriage. And started talking. “Wake up Zipp. I know what you want.”
And then Zipp woke up in the dead of Night with a gasp. “…it was only a dream.” Zipp looked at her clock on her nightstand. And much to her dismay it was 4:10 AM she would try to sleep. But it was very clear she wouldn’t be able to in the next few hours.
So, she figured there would be no point in trying. The Sun was going to rise in a few hours, and she knew that nopony would be awake this early. Except for maybe one.
So, she got up. And headed outside.
“Hey Hitch” Said Zipp as she walked into the station.
Hitch was at his desk. And he screamed like a little girl then turned to face Zipp. “Ohhhh hey…it’s just you Zipp. Why are you awake so early?” Said Hitch. He looked at the clock at his desk and saw the time was 4:12 AM. He was right and confused.
Zipp stood there trying to find an excuse. “Oh, uh well. I fell out of bed. And so, I couldn’t sleep, and I decided to just fly on by and see what you were doing. You weren’t asleep though, were you?” Hitch looked confused. “Um no, nothing is really happening here. And I kinda… was asleep.”
Zipp frowned. “Oh, I’m so sorry Hitch. I just thought you might be awake so you could always be on alert.” She said apologetically. Hitch wasn’t really that phased about it though. “Trust me I try to. But it just hasn’t been easy without a deputy.” Running the sheriff office in maretime bay was more or less a two-pony job. It was possible for one, but in the end that one pony would still need to sleep.
Hitch had his critter friends. But they would still have to wake him up if an emergency happened. They couldn’t do it by themselves. “You know ever since that critter crisis. I always wondered if you needed help on the force.” Zipp wondered. “I would imagine a huge reason it used to be easy, was because Sprout used to be here.”
Hitch sunk into his chair. “I hope I never have to hear about that idiot again.” Zipp was a little surprised by that reaction. Hitch got angry before, but this was the first time she felt he was actually enraged. “Why what happened?” Asked Zipp. But Hitch immediately stopped that train of thought by pouting and saying. “I don’t want to talk about it.” Hitch clearly had a lot on his mind about Sprout. But he just seemed to want to bury any memory he had of him.
Zipp tried asking him about his schedule. “Hitch. How long have you been in the station without any sleep?” Asked Zipp in a sad tone. In a way she knew the answer.
Hitch groaned “uuuuugh… I honestly lost count.” Zipp was still confused and asked. “But wait. How do you stay up and ready for the day?” Hitch had one answer. “Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.” Ironically enough his coffee machine started going off right there. “Speak of the devil.”
Zipp was still confused but she could only say so much because she never drank coffee. “Hitch, that cannot be healthy.” Zipp obviously had a point. Hitch clearly couldn’t keep doing this if his head was always out of it.
As Hitch went to get his coffee Zipp asked another question. Something Hitch still had not decided on. “You need some sleep, and a new deputy. Speaking of which, have you found anypony yet?” Hitch sat back down, and his eyes bugged out of his face when she said that.
The sun shines down on a beautiful maretime bay day.
And in the station.
“Hmm. You know this actually isn’t that bad.” Zipp was trying coffee for the first time. And it certainly did it’s job at keeping her awake.
“See what did I tell ya? It works wonders” Hitch said with Glee.
Just then. The phone rang and Hitch picked it up. It was Sunny. “Hitch Zipp is missing have you seen her?” Sunny said. “Don’t worry she’s here at the station with me. We’re going to swing by for breakfast in a few minutes.” Hitch replied. “Oh good. Gotta get things started. Bye.”
And Hitch Hung up the Phone.
-At The Crystal Bright House-
Sunny was making breakfast for the five as jazz music was playing.
Pipp was at the counter playing the music from her phone. “Hey Pipp, thanks for that song. I actually didn’t know how motivating it was.” Sunny was flipping her fantastic pancakes in the air. While dancing to the beat. “Oh, trust me. It’s the best.” Pipp shot back with a smile.
Sunny paused. “Hang on a second where is Izzy?” She looked around and saw no sign of her. But just then Hitch & Zipp opened the bright house door and sat down at the table. “Hey Ziaaaye aye, aye! What in the world happened to you two?!” Said Pipp with a terrified expression.
Sunny looked back at them, and she had the same expression. “Ahhh! Oh, my pony! What in equestria happened to your manes!?” Just then Izzy popped up out of nowhere. “Ahhh! Yourself. Morning everypony and… *chuckles* Are Zipp & Hitch, ok?”
Zipp just glared. “Oh, will you calm down! Me and Hitch just had a rough night.” Hitch nodded in approval.
“Well, that explains the manes.” Said Pipp with concern. “And the eyes. You both look exhausted. What happened?” Said Sunny.
Hitch sighed and explained. “It’s my sheriff duties Sunny… it’s been so hard without a deputy. And well... Looking after Sparky now.” Everypony in the room realized Hitch’s Dilemma. Although everypony was being a great help with Sparky. Hitch was clearly torn between 2 worlds at this point.
“Oh yeah. That’s right, there’s sparky too. So how long did you spend with him last night?'' asked Zipp. Hitch rubbed his eyes “I got him to sleep at 3 o'clock this morning. Then I walked to the station and passed out. Til you woke me up.” Sunny looked at Zipp. “So why were you at the station?”
“I had a nightmare and well. I couldn’t sleep. So, I thought Hitch would be awake.” Zipp said as she started eating up Sunny’s pancakes. Pipp faced them both. “Well, your manes are an emergency! After breakfast you both are going to mane melody for the manecut you need! I will not take no for an answer.”
Zipp looked Horrified. “Oh no. No no no no. That manecut, was just a one-time thing. There is no way I’m doing this again.” Hitch also spoke up. “And I do my own looks.” Zipp couldn’t help but smirk at that and rolled her eyes. “Maybe you should work at mane melody.” Hitch gave a sarcastic chuckle. “Hey, I’m the sheriff I may as well go out in style.” Said Hitch. And Zipp was chuckling.
Pipp meanwhile. Was thinking of a way to fix up their manes. It was ultimately going to be a challenge as they both had the long spikey ruffy kind of mane. But she never broke a promise to do a great job.
“Trust me. You will both have stunning manes by the time you’re finished. Would you doubt ‘me’, of all ponies? To do a manecut that would suit you best? Said Pipp with a smile.
Zipp & Hitch both sighed. They knew she wouldn’t, they both said. “No. We don’t.”
Hitch sat in the chair in confusion. “How are you doing both of our manes at the same time?” Pipp was working back & forth between Hitch & Zipp. They were sitting right next to each other. Both looked bored and tired.
Pipp was in a mane cutting frenzy. But an enjoyable one. “I have no idea!” Said Pipp in an exaggerated tone.
Though she was clearly dedicated to this. She was admittedly a little nervous. She wanted the best for her friends and especially for her sister.
They both accidentally fell asleep several times only to be awoken by surprise later. “I can’t cut it if your heads aren’t straight!” Pipp shouted waking the two up with a shocked reaction.
After a while. Pipp finished their manecuts. And they looked exactly the same as they usually were. But they were perfectly fine with this. So, they didn’t complain.
“Thanks, Pipp. Here’s your tip.” Hitch & Zipp gave Pipp some bits for the cuts. “Have to go now. Back to the station.” Hitch said with a yawn. He said as they both walked out. “Good luck Hitch.” Said Pipp as they walked out.
Zipp was walking right beside him. “Hitch. You can’t do this. How could you concentrate?” Zipp was looking quite tired herself. And although she couldn’t think clearly, she needed to figure out what she was going to do.
“Zipp, I have to. There’s nopony else who can do this.” Hitch stressed. He was trotting his way to the station and Zipp followed. “Hitch please. You can’t!” Hitch stopped. “Zipp? What about you? Do you have anything to do?” He asked.
And Zipp had one clear thought in her head. That she knew could be accomplished quickly. “Well…no not really but. One thing I can do is look for somepony to cover for you. And I know just the ponies who can do that.” Zipp flew off and Hitch chased after her.
“W-Wait! Zipp who did you have in mind?!” Hitch shouted as he gave chase. “Zoom & Thunder! They just arrived here a few days ago. I’m sure they can do this!” She shouted back. Zipp was getting worn out. Her wings were starting to get heavier and heavier. And she struggled to maintain her balance.
But she kept flying. And then when she least expected it. It all caught up with her. She passed out and started falling.
“ZIPP!” Hitch screamed. Hitch jumped on a nearby bench and then on the side of a building and caught her. But unfortunately, he was landing all too quick. And they crashed right into a store window.
Glass shattered everywhere. And ponies surrounded them. But thankfully among that crowd was Zoom & Thunder. The 2 guardsponies from Zephyr Heights that arrived in maretime bay.
“Woah. Is that Zipp & Sheriff Hitch!? Are you ok?” That was the last thing Hitch heard before he blacked out.
Thunder & Zoom went up to them both and put their hooves on top of their foreheads. “They’re both overheated!” Zoom exclaimed. “I know what we need to do.” Said Thunder. They started carrying them out of the store.
-1 Hour Later-
In the crystal brighthouse. Zipp & Hitch slowly woke up. Zipp was in her bed. And Hitch was in Sunny’s bed right across from Zipp’s.
Zoom, Thunder and the others surrounded the two. “My head…” Now Hitch was both tired and in pain. Zipp wasn’t faring any better. “Hitch… Are we even alive?”
Sunny looked at them. “Hitch. You went face first into a sheet glass, you were running too fast, and you saved Zipp from falling. That’s gotta hurt, and you need to rest.” Hitch laid back and groaned. He had to make a compromise now.
“You were both sleep deprived all morning. Now you’re so exhausted you can’t even stand Hitch.” Sunny said to further the point. And Hitch simply said. “I know…” then he asked. “Zoom, Thunder. Would you cover for me, as sheriffs for the day.” Both Zoom & Thunder accepted the offer. “Anything for a friend of Zipp.” They both said as they flew out to the station.
Zipp smiled, “Told ya you needed help.” She said, And for once in a while. Hitch was perfectly ok with this. “Yeah. I did.” He said.
Pipp walked over to her sister. “Sis. I don’t care how long you sleep. Just please rest.” She asked Zipp. But Zipp & Hitch were already asleep. “Well, no need to ask twice.” Said Izzy as the three walked out.
The day flew by as the two ponies proceeded to sleep for 17 hours.
Hitch woke up. A note was attached on his forehead.
“To Hitch, everything has been going smoothly since Zoom & Thunder took over your position. Queen Haven even offered them a temporary leave yesterday. It was a little difficult at first but me and the other critters helped them whenever and however we could. Sparky has also been happy and well fed. See you later.
-McSnips-A-Lot”
Hitch facehoofed. “That can’t be him. Right?” He put the note on the nightstand and he got up. He looked over and saw Zipp was still asleep. Hitch sighed. He walked out of the bed and went to the kitchen. When he stepped out. Zipp opened her eyes.
-In the Kitchen-
The Kitchen clock said 4:00 PM. And the calendar said it was the next day already. Hitch was semi-shocked. He never slept in the span of days. But it was warranted. He felt much better than he was a day ago. “Now where are the others?” Hitch wondered.
“No one’s here. Just you and me.” Said Zipp, stepping into the Kitchen. Hitch shrieked. “Oh uh Zipp you’re awake. You really are sneaky aren’t you?” Zipp couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah. What is this the 2nd time I caught you off guard?” She said smugly.
Hitch couldn’t help but wonder though. “Wait a minute. In the short time I’ve been up. You already searched the whole Crystal Brighthouse?”
“Yeah. All over the place. Nopony else is here. So what have you been doing since you got up?” She asked. And then Hitch remembered. “Oh uh. Zoom & Thunder-“ he was cut off. “I saw the note. They took over.” Zipp looked confused. “But seriously. What even happened back there? Last thing I remember is flying and then I’m in my bed. And what did they mean by. You saved me?” Hitch clearly remembered it all now.
“You were flying too fast. And you passed out in the air. I was able to snatch you out of the sky by jumping off a bench and off a building. But we crashed into a store window.” Hitch was still in disbelief himself. He couldn’t remember the last time he did that other than that obstacle course.
“Oh. Uh. Thanks Hitch.” Zipp blushed.
“You don’t have any cuts on you right?” Hitch asked as he looked around her. “Nah I’m ok.” Answered Zipp. Hitch sat back down on the table. “Ok good. Zipp. Promise me you’ll never fly that fast again when you’re that sleep deprived.” Hitch sat down but he still felt a little bit out of it.
“Don’t worry. I won’t.” Zipp sat down next to him. “Hey. Are you feeling ok?`` asked Zipp.
“Yeah. I’m just sorta…I.” Hitch was trying to comprehend his thoughts. “Ugh…honestly Zipp. A lot has happened. And well, maybe I was enjoying myself too much to even talk about it.” Hitch explained.
“First off I feel like I’m torn between 2 worlds. And I know I’m responsible between them and all. But it’s stressful. And well, sparky is an amazing little guy I’m glad I saved him but… weather he’s here or at the station he can be a hooful. And keeping everything up at the office hasn’t been easy without a deputy. And whenever I’m off I get nervous something is going to happen.” Hitch continued on about how things had been. And it was no question to Zipp. Things had been quite eventful in such a short amount of time.
“Why are you afraid something might happen?” Zipp asked. “Because I don’t want anything to interrupt all of our time together. Ever since we forgot about Sunny’s camping trip. I’ve been hyper focused on making sure my schedule is perfect. The truth is Zipp. I don’t want to seem like I’m coming across as cringey, mr. perfect, a jerk face, egotistical, or just a bad friend. But I feel like I am… and I know I’m not.” Now Hitch was actually sad.
Zipp spoke up. “Come on Hitch you are not any of those things. You’re just putting pressure on yourself. And you’re right, I forgot that trip too. But it happened. And no, I wouldn't say you’re bad.”
Hitch Continued. “I know, I know. But Sometimes I feel like I have to.”
“Why?” Asked Zipp.
“Ok look. Zipp for a long time now, I’ve basically been Maretime Bay’s Pipp Petals. I’ve been an icon of Maretime Bay. For years!” Hitch replied. And Zipp finally understood. “Alright I see what’s going on here. You’re the sheriff of maretime bay, you’re an idol of maretime bay. You finally got a group of friends that actually get you on a personal level. And so you’re just getting used to being casual around us, because you never did that with anypony else. Right?”
Hitch’s ears perked up. “You know what… you’re right. How did you know?” Zipp smiled “Heh. Take it from me. I’m in the same place but I’m a little different. But I need to ask. Were you not casual around Sprout or Sunny?”
Hitch sighed “Well. Sunny was always wrapped up in her house or on those roller blades. I mean we were friends but, I don’t think we really connected until. We all got together. And Sprout…ugh. He was less of a friend as much as he was blind to everything except for what his mom told him.” Zipp wrapped a hoof on Hitch’s back.
“Hey Hitch. Look you can be a little cringey but you’re honestly one of the coolest and kindest ponies I know. I mean wow you just told me that you’re struggling with all this new stuff in your life, and yet you still take it all in stride. And whenever there’s something we can’t figure out you’re always there for us. And hey look if you have anything on your mind you can talk to me. You can be as casual as you want.” Said Zipp. Hitch was smiling because knew this to be true. While he had struggles and flaws like everypony else. He tended to have a positive outlook on how to handle things and never really had confidence issues. Even if he didn’t know how to resolve these things directly.
And that was ok.
Hitch looked at Zipp and said. “Let’s be best friends.” Hitch said with a smug grin. Zipp grinned too. “Best friends!”
They were giggling. “Say you wanna get something to eat? It’s almost Dinner.” Hitch was all too happy to oblige. “Oh yeah!”
Hitch & Zipp burst out of the Crystal Bright House. Zipp was doing loops just above the path. And Hitch was doing cartwheels down the path. As they headed into the greater Maretime Bay.
Hitch and Zipp were hitting up a few stops til they found a fairly decent cafe just beside the main beach.
It wasn’t anything to fancy. But they wanted something casual.
“Ooho boy. Zipp I gotta say this is the life.” Hitch was laying back in his chair smiling as the 2 gave a toast. “Oh yeah. Just a regular meal where nothing big happens. It’s the best.” Zipp was always used to having the big elaborate dinners at Zephyr Heights. This was the simple life she needed to get her mind off of bigger things in her mind.
Though little did she know. Sometimes the simple things are all you need to figure yourself out. “These Hay Fries are just delicious. Where do they come up with this?” Zipp said. “Well, this is my personal favorite. At least in terms of Hay Fries.” Hitch said, drinking up his smoothie.
Zipp knew he was right, but she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Only Hitch could make a constructive review of Hay Fries across Maretime bay. She still remembered when Hitch suggested the idea to her. “You are such a dork I swear. But you’re not wrong.” She smiled. “Course not. I knew you would like it. I figured you needed a break.” Zipp put a hoof in her forehead. “Hitch. We honestly both needed one. Glad you’re here with me though.” Zipp ate the last of the Hay Fries.
“Actually, I meant from Royal Duties, Celebrity Duties & Hero Work. And I might be wrong. But it looks like there’s a lot on your mind lately Zipp.” Hitch corrected.
Zipp leaned back in the chair. “Oh yeah. That.” Ever since Maretime Bay Day. So much had been happening to Zipp. The thought of being the future Princess of Zephyr Heights made her shudder. On top of having fans of her own. And it was not because of Pipp that she had fans. She was one of the 5 heros that brought magic and unity back to equestria. It couldn’t be helped.
“You’re ok though, are you? The fans aren’t too overbearing? Or do you not want to talk about-“ Hitch was cut off.
“No, no. It’s fine. I just…” Zipp sighed. And place both hooves on her forehead as they slipped over her eyes. “I’m glad that we bought magic back, I’m glad we could bring pony kind back together. Like, it’s one of the best things I could’ve ever done, especially meeting you all. And actually, getting to know my sister for once, getting to know all of you… I just didn’t know that I was starting to know myself too.” Zipp said as the events of Maretime Bay Day played back like a film in her mind.
And then she thought about her past. Her mother’s attempts to raise her as the princess of Zephyr Heights. It was not exactly the most pleasant experience. “Hitch. I had to pretend like I could fly. For years. I was living a lie, I thought I was fine with all of this, until you came along. I lived a lie for so long that I feel like I don’t know who I am anymore. I just want to figure out who I really am inside. I just…I just…”
Hitch held up his hooves. “Hey, hey slow down. Now look at Zipp, I’m not going to pretend like I completely understand this. But is it really bothering you that bad?”
Zipp composed herself and said. “No. Usually I have you guys to keep me from feeling like that. I try to keep figuring out who I am separated from whenever I have a great time with you guys. But I just… I don’t know who I am yet. And I don’t want to think I’m just another pony that just hangs with you guys.” Zipp finished.
She knew she wasn’t. But like everything else it wasn’t easy. And it obviously couldn’t be ignored.
And Hitch knew this too. Zipp was not just another pony in this circle of friends. And he knew this couldn’t be ignored either.
“Zipp, you don't have to know who you are to be with us. Especially me, I mean we literally decided to be ‘best’ friends tonight.” Said Hitch. After that his tone softened a bit. “You’re honestly one of the coolest friends I ever met. And I can’t even imagine how sad I would be if you left Maretime bay.” This made Zipp lighten up a bit.
“Thanks Hitch. There’s just been so much going on. And I didn’t want to interrupt our time together either. You’re all seriously the best. And I always feel like a part of me breaks down at the idea of having to go back to Zephyr Heights and le… well you get the idea.” Said Zipp. She was really hesitant on that last part.
Zipp’s smile disappeared as she continued. “Hitch. Remember how you said you were hyper focused on making sure everything is in order?” Hitch remembered. As he was making sure of it every day. “Yeah.” He replied. Zipp continued. “Well. I’m dealing with the same thing. But I honestly feel more guilty about forgetting it than I should be, because I know what it’s like. Back when I was alone. I felt like I didn’t need other ponies, and I didn’t have anypony else to give me a 2nd opinion on things. And well… some of those ‘things’ were not my best choices. And I can’t thank you guys enough for helping me out of that. I feel so much happier now than I did back home. And so, I hate it! I forgot about that trip, it was supposed to be a fun time for all of us when we were so busy, and I just forgot I was supposed to go. I feel like a complete jerk for that! You get what I’m saying Hitch?”
“Yeah. You don’t want to be a hypocrite, right?” Said Hitch.
“Yep. That’s it. I just…I just hate feeling all alone. And I hate being abandoned. So how am I supposed to show that when I forget these things? I-I am just terrified of being abandoned by all of you. It’s seriously the worst thing ever.” Zipp was struggling to speak by now.
“I don’t want to abandon any of you either I don’t want to make anypony feel bad or left behind!
I don’t want to have to leave all of you behind to become a pri…a…a…” Zipp struggled with that last part. Hitch was watching all of this unfold. And he knew what was coming next.
Zipp’s face collapsed on the table, and she cried. “I-I’m so sorry Hi-tch.” Hitch walked to the other side of the table and hugged her. “You needed to let that out. I know how it feels. You put too much pressure on yourself. But you lose yourself.” Hitch explained.
Hitch continued to emphasize. “But Zipp you’re not a bad friend. And nopony would abandon you. You have my promise on that. Me, Sunny, Izzy & Pipp. We all love you. And hey Zipp.” Zipp looked up.
“I’m actually really glad we got to talk about these things tonight. We’re still learning a lot about each other. I think if we didn’t have tonight to just calm down for a bit. We probably would’ve been more sleep deprived than yesterday. You get what I’m saying?” Zipp smiled at that and nodded in agreement.
“You’re right. What do I have to worry about? If I did, I'd probably be up for the rest of my life.” Zipp said with a chuckle. What started as a break-down. Was now filled with laughter and happiness she had not felt before. “And hey, thanks for listening in on this Hitch.”
“Anytime. Bestie.” Hitch said with a grin.
The two finished up. And were about to head out into Maretime Bay to find the others.
Zipp and Hitch walked out of the cafe. On their way to the Station to find Sunny, Izzy & Pipp. And catch up on Zoom, Thunder, Spark and the rest of the critters to see how they’re holding up.
As they were walking. Zipp sneezed “achew!” It was very quiet and high pitched. And Hitch smiled. “Aw. Is that your sneeze?” Zipp confused looked at Hitch “what?” Said Zipp.
“It’s just so… cute!” Hitch said in glee. “It’s a normal sneeze.” Zipp replied. Zipp was not amused.
They continued walking and Hitch was chuckling. “I can’t believe it, the whole time. You had the cutest sneeze of all time.” Hitch said as Zipp turned around to face him.
“I am not cute!” Shouted Zipp. She was blushing and had a slight grin on her face. She was trying so hard to hide it.
She could’ve sworn she heard Sunny, Izzy and Pipp giggling in the background.
“The angrier you get the cuter you are.” Said Hitch. Zipp’s face was almost completely red by this point, and she would’ve laughed her head off. Her attempt to hide this reaction would’ve been impossible. She tackled Hitch. But all in good fun no less. Nopony was hurt.
She started tickling Hitch. Aggressively, to hide her reaction. “You better surrender to the sheriff, especially since Sunny told me where your ‘tickle spot’ is!” She shouted.
Hitch was laughing. “Bahaha Zipp cut it out! Ok, ok I surrender.” This made Zipp stop tickling him. Hitch got up and they shared a short laugh as they continued to walk along.
Until several ponies were standing in front of them. Hitch & Zipp faces went wide eyed. “Oh no.” Said Hitch. As one pony said.
“Oh my god it’s ‘the’ Zipp & Hitch!” Said one pony and the 2 made a run for the station with the herd of fans giving chase.
Hitch & Zipp tried hiding everywhere they could.
In phone booths, flowerpots, in store windows, on top of buildings, behind lamp posts and even in the sewer.
And there still wasn’t any sign of Sunny, Izzy & Pipp. Eventually after much chasing around they lost them.
And collapsed by the station. Zoom & Thunder opened the door. “Hey, you two, how’s it going?” Said Hitch as he stepped inside.
“Oh, it’s been going great Hitch.” Said Thunder. Hitch looked around and he was impressed. Everything was really well organized and secure. Hitch walked over to Sparky’s crib. And found him sound asleep. “Oh him. He was actually not that hard to take care of. These critters of yours know what to do Hitch.” Said Zoom with a smile.
“So why do you both look out of breath?” Asked Thunder.
Zipp shrunk down in a chair. “It’s a long story.” Hitch was more straightforward. “Chased by fans.”
Zoom & Thunder looked at each other and both said. “Yeah.”
“Anyway, now that you’re both here. Sunny told me to tell you. She needs you both back at the Crystal Brighthouse.” Said Zoom.
“Ok thanks Zoom. We’ve been looking for her for a while now.” Hitch said as he & Zipp walked out of the station.
They arrived at the Crystal Brighthouse. The doors swung open. And nopony was there.
They looked around inside the house. Still nopony.
“Why is she not here?” Asked Zipp. “I don’t know.” Hitch Replied.
Zipp sat down at the table. “Me neither.” Zipp laid her head down and blushed.
“Are you ok? Did my teasing bother you Asked Hitch. “Well, I…it didn’t I just uh…” Zipp stumbled. “Hey, look if you felt embarrassed or anything I’m sorry-“
“Nah, don't be like that. You were just teasing me because we were having too much fun. You know somepony loves you if they tease you.” Said Zipp with sincerity. She picked her head up.
“Yeah.” Said Hitch as he sat down next to her. “I was more embarrassed by the mob of fans. I didn’t expect the noise to get them to notice us.” Said Zipp. Hitch’s head fell into his hooves. “Actually, yeah that was pretty bad.” Zipp nodded in agreement.
“Ok let’s agree to never shout like that outside ever again.” Said Hitch groaning.
“Agreed” Zipp & Hitch hoofbumped.
“Zipp! Hitch!” Hitch heard a voice from outside the Brighthouse.
Zipp & Hitch walked outside. And they went to the beach below. And they finally found them.
“Over here!” They both said as the other 3 came running up to them.
-Later-
Sunny was at the center of the table. Talking about some upcoming plans. “So, we’re all invited to go to Zephyr Heights on a vacation for a week. We have 2 days to start packing.”
“Zoom & Thunder could cover me for that long?” Hitch asked “Oh sure. Queen Haven assures you they’ll be fine. Did you check them?” Asked Sunny.
“Well yeah. They’re doing good.” Hitch assured.
“Good. So, you’re all on board with this. Right?” Asked Sunny.
“Oh yeah!” Said Hitch.
“You’d better believe it!” Said Pipp.
“Bawaaaagahh!” Said Izzy in approval.
“Sure thing.” Said Zipp.
“Ok good. Now Zipp, I wanted to talk about this with you very quickly.” Said Sunny more seriously.
“Now Zipp, I know you’ve been avoiding Zephyr Heights lately. But your mom promised to not give any lectures or lessons about anything. She told me if it would make you happy it would be fine by her. So, you're still coming along.” Said Sunny.
“Yeah of course. Just as long as I don’t have to do anything like ‘that’” Said Zipp. Still a bit uncertain.
“Then it’s settled. We’ll start packing tomorrow. But for now, we should get to sleep first.” Sunny said as she started her way to the bedroom. The others followed suit except for Zipp. Hitch was headed out until she stopped him.
“Hey Hitch. Thanks so much for tonight. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.” Zipp said as she blushed.
“Thank you too. I needed this for a while. Tonight, was great. And well. You were great. Goodnight Zipp.” Hitch said as he blushed.
“Goodnight.” They waved to each other as Hitch walked away.
-Later that night-
Everypony was asleep. Except for Zipp. She still struggled with the fact she'd be going back to Zephyr Heights. Even though she knew it would be ok.
She tried to get her mind off of it. And she figured out a way. She thought of what she and Hitch did that night. And how casual it was. And it did the job. She was out like a light.
Little did she know Hitch. Would have the same thought process as he went to sleep too.
After two days of packing. The 5 friends were in a carriage on their way to Zephyr Heights in the dead of night.
And Pipp had one of her original songs playing that she always loved playing on road trips. And it was incredibly catchy. They were all having a great time.
Eventually they arrived near the city. The lights within made it stand out like a beacon.
“There it is.” Said Sunny excited as everyone looked out the window.
And Hitch was chuckling. “Heheh It’s actually kind of intimidating.”
“You’ve been here before.” Said Zipp with some sarcasm. “Yeah, but every time I come here it reminds me of that first time I came here.” Said Hitch. “Oh yeah that was fun.” Said Zipp chuckling.
They looked at each other as the carriage closed in. “That’s when I became a detective.” Said Hitch “Yeah that’s when we first met right.” Said Zipp. They began talking about that first time they met in Zephyr Heights. And then they started blushing. Their sweet reminiscing was cut short though.
The carriage made it's descent. And landed on the platform. Izzy burst out of the carriage and stretched a little. “Oh yeah! This place is sooo alive at night.” Izzy shouted, Pipp walked next to her. “I know right. It’s the pretty lights.” Said Pipp. Sunny, Zipp & Hitch all walked out. As escort guards for Queen Haven came out to greet them.
“Ah there you are!” Said Queen Haven grinning. She ran to Zipp & Pipp and hugged them tightly.
Sunny walked towards her and bowed. Queen Haven laughed. “Oh, come on no need to be so formal Sunny.” Sunny immediately got back up. Meanwhile Hitch was getting the luggage out of the carriage.
“Hitch. There is no need for that. I’ll just have my guards help you out.” Said Queen Haven as fell Hitch & dropped the biggest bag on top of him. “Oh, uh thanks your majesty.” Hitch said awkwardly.
“No formalities. You’re my guest.” Said Queen Haven as the guards went towards the carriage starting to move the bags.
“She’s too generous. Get used to it buddy.” Said Zipp. “Now let me help you up.” She stretched out her hoof and Hitch took it and got back up. “Heh. I honestly don’t know about the rooms now.” Hitch & Zipp both blushed as they walked behind the rest into the palace.
-Inside-
“And here’s where you’re going to be staying. The guest castle Suite.” Queen Haven announced as she opened a door to a suite that had everything. A kitchen, living room, 4 bedrooms and large window view of Zephyr Heights.
The group was mesmerized. “Woah!” Said Sunny. “What about Zipp & Pipp are you going to be sleeping here?” Asked Sunny.
“Oh Sure. And our rooms are literally right around the corner. So pretty close.” Said Zipp.
The guards came in and dropped off their bags. “Thank you. Now leave us.” Said Queen Haven as the guards left. “Now I don’t think I’ve been properly introduced to you three.” She pointed specifically to Sunny, Hitch & Izzy.
“Oh yeah that’s right. My name is Izzy and I love making anything out of everything.” Izzy continued to talk on, but Queen Haven laughed. “Oh, you are just adorable!” Queen Haven squeeze hugged Izzy. “Thank you Queen Ha-hah.” Said Izzy running out of breath.
“And I am Sunny Starscout.” Said Sunny. She showed her alicorn powers when she said that.
“Oh of course Sunny. I’ve heard everything about you.” Queen Haven said with a smile.
“And you must be Sheriff Hitch. Idol sheriff of Maretime bay. That can talk to animals. I must say, I’m an instant fan.” Said Queen Haven flying over to him.
“Heheheh. Well, you see Queen Haven it’s uh. Just kinda…” Hitch went off. And Zipp stopped him.
“What he means to say is that he’s cool, collective and cu-uh I mean.” Zipp stuttered. “I’m happy to be here.” He smiled.
And the 3 shared a laugh.
“Ok, I’m going to have an interesting time here I can tell.” Said Hitch.
Zipp was flying upside down in front of him with her forehooves folded. “Oh yeah. Just you wait.” Zipp said and she booped Hitch on the nose.
“Seriously?” Said Hitch. And smiled and said a very subtle. “Yes.”
Later on, the 4 of the friends were asleep. But one was looking outside the window in deep thought. Confused. But happy.
Something was clearly bothering Hitch. Though he couldn’t be sure. He just couldn’t take his mind off of Zipp. And it didn’t help that when he tried to sleep thinking about her, is how he managed to help him sleep.
Soon he was in his bed, content. Sleeping and ready for whatever this adventure might bring.
Zipp was flying over Hitch’s bed. Chuckling. She booped him on his muzzle. Waking him up.
Smiling Zipp said. “Watcha dreaming about?” Hitch’s eyes bugged out his head and he blushed “Uhhh not this. Why..?” Asked Hitch.
“Hey Izzy asked me.” Said Zipp. Hitch looked at the time and it was 10:47 AM.
“Agh! It’s too late. I’m going! I’m getting breakfast.” Said Hitch as he ran into the hallway. “Wait up!” Said Zipp following suit.
-Later after breakfast-
The 5 friends were at the castle pool. However, Zipp’s attention was focused somewhere else. She was laying back on a lounge chair. With her sunglasses on, And Hitch was in another one wearing his sunglasses and he was right next to hers. She was looking at Hitch, thinking about him.
She couldn’t put her hoof on it but. She felt happy and comforted. Now it really wasn’t anything new as she had been feeling this way for quite a while now. She just didn’t have the time to process it. And now she had all the time she needed to do that. She looked away and started thinking.
Zipp Internally speaking “what is going on? Why am I so jumpy around him? And yet so relaxed? Ugh! This is so embarrassing. And frustrating. I mean he’s just a friee… wait. Is this what I’m thinking it is? No way. I…” Zipp’s line of thought was cut off by Hitch. “H-Hey are you alright?'' Hitch asked with his face to his side.
“Sure, why wouldn’t I be.” Zipp said Chuckling. “You’re in the fetal position rocking back and forth. And your face is red.” Zipp was just about to lose it. She felt like her wings were going to spring out.
Zipp sighed. “Ugh… I’m sorry Hitch I just. I need a moment.” Said Zipp, she started walking away. “Ok Zipp. Need any help?” Hitch asked. He also was blushing furiously at this point. “I-I’ll let you know if I do!” Said Zipp. Hitch was smiling and kicking his hooves back and forth.
And she ran behind the snack bar and closed the window shutter.
Zipp screamed. And her wings sprung out and she started flapping them. “Aaaghh! Why do I feel like this!? What is going on!?”
Just then. She heard a knock at the door.
“Hey Zipp? It’s Sunny. Are you ok?” She asked. “Come in.” Said Zipp as she sat down.
Sunny walked and closed the door. “Hitch asked me to check on you.” Zipp’s ears perked up. “He’s not behind there is he?” She asked as she pointed to the window shutter.
“No, he went for a swim. Come to think of it. He looked as nervous as you.” Said Sunny. She sat beside Zipp.
Zipp said “He didn’t look nervous. Then again. I didn’t get a good look at his face to tell. Ugh! I May as well tell you.” Zipp sighed and told Sunny.
“Ok Sunny, you got me. I’m nervous but I’m also kinda excited too.” Nervoucited. Zipp continued. “It’s well uhh. Hitch he…he…I don’t know but whenever I think about him, I just feel happy, nervous, excited, Jumpy, and my face feels hot. I mean we’re besties why does it have to be awkward.” She hid her face behind her hooves.
Sunny was smiling. “How long have you been feeling like this?” Asked Sunny.
“To be honest Sunny. I have felt this way since. Well since that incident.” Said Zipp.
“You mean when you were both sleep deprived and destroyed a store window?” Asked Sunny.
“Yeah… maybe even earlier than that. I just think I…I…” Zipp was stuttering. “Hey, I see your problem. Sooo you think you ‘like him.’” Asked Sunny.
“Yes…I am kinda, sort of, maybe, DEFINITELY IN LOVE WITH HITCH!” Zipp was crying. “I’m so ridiculous right now…” she said between sobs.
Sunny wrapped a hoof around Zipp. “Hey, it's perfectly normal. When you’re in love this is what it feels like. You feel everything.” Said Sunny.
“I just didn’t know… But why is it so awkward? Maybe it’s because I never felt like this. Before.” Said Zipp.
“That’s right. It’s your first crush. So obviously you’re going to be through a lot.” Said Sunny. “Take your time. I won’t say anything to him. Just calm down. Try thinking about Hitch. That could calm you down. Just don’t get too excited.” Said Sunny.
Zipp started thinking about Hitch. And it worked. She was calming down and starting to relax. Her wings went back into position and her blush went away. “Thanks Sunny. I think I can do this now.” She said and braved her way back to the pool as they both dived in to join the others.
After the pool party the 5 friends were in Zipp’s room just hanging around.
Pipp was on the bed turned over on her back. “That was one of the best pool parties eva!” Pipp said. “You can say that again.” Said Zipp.
“But in all seriousness Hitch. Your swim moves were incredible!” Said Zipp smiling with a slight blush. Hitch smiled nervously. Hitch was Performing several stunts and amazing swim moves at the pool party. Mostly because he trained himself for it. As he figured it would be helpful in his career as a sheriff and it was very beneficial in the long run.
“Thanks Z-zipp.” Said Hitch. Hitch still had his sunglasses on when they left the castle pool. And it was noticeable, but he clearly needed this to partially hide the blush and his eyes. “Say why don’t you take your sunglasses off. It’s not that bright in here.” Pipp suggested.
Hitch was stuttering until Zipp said. “Actually, if Hitch wants to wear them in here, he should.” She had no idea why Hitch still had them on. But she figured she might need her own sunglasses to hide her own blush and eyes. She never would’ve guessed that’s exactly what Hitch was doing this for.
And then Hitch realized he was looking right at Zipp. And he didn’t know it. So, he tried to be polite and looked away. But something was brewing inside him. And he was processing it all. And what he found was something he had no idea what to do. Several emotions hit Hitch all at once and then.
“I uh. If you’ll excuse me for a moment.” Hitch stepped out of the room. And Sunny followed. As Sunny walked outside. She noticed Hitch’s steps turned into walking, the walking turned to running.
And soon enough Sunny was giving chase. And then Hitch slipped on a patch of the floor that was brighter than the rest. “Owww!” Hitch screamed. And then his sunglasses fell off of his face. Hitch was groaning in pain until Sunny helped him up.
The 2 were back in the guest castle suite. And Hitch and Sunny were both on the sofa. Sunny was trying to get a response out of Hitch.
“Hitch. What happened? Where were you headed?” Asked Sunny. “I don’t know. Anywhere. I just had to- ugh!” Hitch was seemingly both sad and frustrated.
“Hitch tell me what happened.” Said Sunny. Hitch ultimately knew she would never ever stop until she knew. And what would the point be in hiding something that couldn’t be hidden anymore given to how Sunny saw everything.
“Sunny I…I don’t know what it is or why. But I feel awkward. I feel jumpy and relaxed at the same time. I feel nervous but excited. And it’s Zipp. Just around her! Dah! Why does everything feel so awkward around Zipp all of the sudden!? Is something wrong with me!? Should I even be talking about this to you? I-“ Hitch was cut off. Sunny knew everything that was going on. And now she was going to crack this wide open to Hitch in all it’s glory.
“Hitch. I know exactly what you’re going through. Don’t laugh, because I promise you nothing is wrong with you.” Said Sunny bluntly.
“You’re in love with Zipp. I can see it plain as day. It’s no wonder you were still wearing your sunglasses.” Said Sunny.
Hitch was undoubtedly tearing up. But he didn’t cry. He couldn’t. Right?
Hitch went wide eyed. “J-W- HOW!? It can’t be! I can’t do… I am not!” Said Hitch pouting and blushing. “Sunny. Look, I can't do that! I have too many responsibilities, to you guys to be a sheriff, and to take care of sparky. I-ugh!” Hitch struggled to speak.
“You can’t do what? Fall in love? Hitch you’re a sheriff and nothing more. And even if you weren’t, you’re still a pony who’s more than that. In your attempts to make things work out for eveypony. Do you seriously think it would be remotely worth it to completely push your emotions out of your life?” Sunny explained.
“Especially when it’s our friendship that United Equestria. And our emotions that fuel the unity crystals?” Sunny continued.
Hitch frowned. “I don’t know.” He said. Sunny looked on with concern. “Hitch. How many ponies do you think look up to you? How many ponies have you inspired for the better? Or gave a positive impact?” Sunny asked.
Hitch said nothing. “You don’t know do you?” Said Sunny. And Hitch said “I-I never thought.”
“Hitch you’ve done a lot more for others than you let on. Even before the change ponies still respect you as a pony. I know I did. Our friends just want to see you happy as much as you want to see us happy. And I would imagine Zipp would want that for you too.” Said Sunny.
Sunny Continued. “Hitch. The one thing our group of friends are really concerned about. Is when you feel like you need to lose your mind just to make us happy. That’s not fair to yourself, and seeing you like that certainly does not make us happy. What I’m saying is. The more you build up that emotional wall when other ponies try to make sure you’re ok. Eventually the wall will be so high they won’t be able to see you anymore. They wouldn’t be able to care for you anymore. You see what I’m saying?” Said Sunny continuing for one last time.
“Please try to take this seriously. I know this is all really new to you. But I promise you no matter what happens it will all be worth it in the end.” Sunny Finished.
Hitch was crying. And conceded. He hugged Sunny. “Thank you… I just. It’s going to take a while.” Said Hitch.
“Hey I understand. Take things at your own pace. But don’t go too fast or too slow.” Hitch finished the hug and smiled at that.
Sunny spoke “And what I mean by that is-“ she was cut off. “Yeah, I get what you mean.” Said Hitch smiling. “You won’t tell her, right?” Asked Hitch.
“Hitch you know I won’t tell anypony.” Sunny said with a smug expression.
-meanwhile-
Pipp was showing Izzy a video. And they were laughing. “Ahahahah! Oh, that is so good.”
“How did they make that work?” Asked Izzy. “I don’t know. Zipp you gotta see this.” Said Pipp. “Zipp? Where are you “
Zipp was under the bed. Looking at pictures of Hitch on her phone. She was smiling and blushing. Completely content. All the while in her mind she was wondering. Does she really like Hitch? How would he feel?
She certainly enjoys his company. Just thinking about him was putting her at ease. And she wanted to make him as happy as possible. And then Izzy. Wait…Izzy?
“There’s Zipp!” Izzy’s head poked under the bed. And startled Zipp. “Ah!” Zipp screamed.
“Why are you under here?” Asked Izzy.
“Um…I.” Zipp didn’t know what to say. But she figured she could at least tell Izzy at some other point.
“Actually Izzy. I’m not too sure. But I’ll tell you later.” Said Zipp.
Izzy was puzzled “Oh. Ok.” And then Izzy smiled. “Honesty!” She said excitedly.
Just then Sunny opened the door. She and Hitch walked in. And Sunny had a smug look on her face.
Izzy was walking along the hallway after dinner. Until Zipp came by and told her to swing by the old train station.
When they got there Zipp asked. “Soooo I was kinda wondering. Do you think it’s possible to make a machine that can make earth ponies fly?” Izzy stood there puzzled but happy. “Oh yeah! Uhh why?”
Zipp was looking at her old flight equipment. “I realized that if we can make something like that. We could all fly together. You could fly and Hitch could fly. Imagine how cool that would be.” Zipp looked back to Izzy with excitement.
“Ooohhh! That is a cool idea!” Izzy was bouncing up and down. “Oh! I think I have an idea. And this place has all the parts I need. You got it Zipp. 2 flying machines coming right up!” Izzy said as she ran towards an old dumpster in the station and hopped right into it.
Zipp’s jaw dropped open. “Uhhh ooook see ya.” She knew why Izzy did that. It was still weird though.
-4 Hours Later-
“Alrighty. Fly high like a drone! This is gonna be so good!” Izzy said as she was making her device piece by piece like it was nothing. She figured out a pretty good idea that could probably work. She thought of how a drone could fly. And old concept plans she found for a device called a battle saddle.
“Yes! I have done it!” Izzy was wearing a device that strapped around her like a harness. There were 4 propellers on it, kinda like a drone. And in front of Izzy’s face. A mouthpiece to control it.
“Only one thing to do now. Test it out.” Izzy said excitedly. But she was hesitant at first. She didn’t want to crash and burn horribly. While she was proud of what she made. She thought that it might’ve sounded good on paper. But terrible execution. Now she was having second thoughts about trying it. But at the same time, she came so far. And the idea of flying alongside Zipp, Pipp, Sunny & Hitch as a group was something she really wanted. She could see it all in her head.
And then she thought of a way to test it and not get injured. “Hmm, safety first!” Izzy ran towards the dumpster and made whatever trash she could into a makeshift armor suit. It wasn’t really that good. But she figured it would work. And then she thought of something more important.
“Well. I’m never going to know if it’s terrible. Until I try it out.” Izzy was right. And so, with that. She activated the device with no hesitation. And when it came on, she was just barely hovering above the floor.
She knew why. “Oh boy. I gotta bear it all don’t I?” She said, and she slipped the clunky armor off. And then she was flying upwards. She panicked at first but then she started controlling it. She flew up, down, left and right. Throughout the station.
“I-I did it! I DID IT!” She said with tears in her eyes. And as she flew outside the station, she let loose a. “Weeeeee!”
When Zipp was still sleeping. Izzy was hovering just outside her bedroom window. Izzy tapped on the glass. “Oooohhh Ziiiiiiiipp.” She said, quietly.
Zipp woke up and looked at the window. And Zipp was startled. At first anyway. “Ah!” She screamed, until she got a better look.
She was shocked. “Wha-“ she opened the window. “Izzy! You’re flying!” She said excitedly. “Yes indeedy. I’ll work on the other one tomorrow.” Izzy said.
Zipp smiled and said. “Yeah but. Don’t overwork yourself. You are on vacation after all.” She said to Izzy.
“Zipp. Making things IS my vacation!” Izzy said excitedly. “But I do have to admit. I am kinda ti-tir…” Izzy flew into the room and passed out.
Zipp chuckled. And just then she got an amazing idea. It was an idea that made her jump so much that it made her blush and squee. She flew around the room excited. “Yes. Yes. Yes! Thank you, Izzy.” She said smiling and laughing. She took the device off of Izzy. And tucked her into her own bed.
“Goodnight Izzy. I’m about to have the time of my life!” Zipp said as she briefly squealed.
“Ahehe.” Squealed Zipp quietly as she snuck out of her room.
Izzy was sleep talking for a brief moment and said. “Large sneaky.”
The day had officially ended. Or so one may think.
Zipp snuck into Hitch’s room.
Zipp was flying over Hitch’s bed. Chuckling. She booped him on his muzzle. Waking him up.
Smiling, Zipp said. “Watcha dreaming about?” Hitch’s eyes bugged out his head and he blushed. “Zipp. Seriously? Are we really doing this again?” Asked Hitch with a smile.
“Oh, you like it. Get used to it bestie. Come on, I have something to show you.” The 2 walked throughout the castle halls. Until Zipp found the lift that took them both down to the abandoned train station.
“Woah.” Said Hitch in shock. The station was just barely lit by the various lights of Zephyr Heights outside. “You think that’s impressive? Look at this.” Zipp flew towards a power strip and turned it on. A huge array of Christmas lights of all different kinds lit up the whole area.
“Wow… this is AMAZING!” Said Hitch as he looked at the ceiling. “How did you do this?” Hitch asked. “Pipp helped with the lights. And I did everything else.” Said Zipp as she pointed towards a huge fan and chalkboard. “I used to pretend I was flying on this thing. And it worked. It was always a dream of mine to fly. Have you ever wondered what it might be like?” Asked Zipp.
“Well. I sorta did. It sounds great, scary but great.” Said Hitch. Just then Zipp pulled out a device from behind the fan. Hitch looked at it, puzzled.
“It can make an earth pony fly ‘for real.’ Izzy made it.” Said Zipp with a satisfied look.
Hitch was shocked in disbelief. “How?” He asked. “Well try it.” Said Zipp and she helped him put on the device.
Hitch held onto the mouthpiece. And the device started. Hitch was hovering over the ground. And at first, he struggled.
And then he flew all over the place.
“Agh ah! Hellp!” Hitch screamed. He flew higher and lower throughout the station as Zipp gave chase.
Everything seemed to be going wrong. Until Hitch started moving the mouthpiece around. And he was starting to get it. “Wa-wait. I got it. It’s easy. Just move this mouthpiece to where you want to go.” Hitch said as he grabbed it and lowered himself back to the ground.
Zipp landed next to him.
“Why? Why did Izzy make this?” Hitch asked. “I actually asked her to do it. I was wondering if it could be done. That way all of us could fly together. Wouldn’t that be cool?” Said Zipp.
Even though Zipp had vastly different intentions for the first of these devices tonight. She wanted to fly with Hitch throughout the beautiful night life of the bright city. To share the amazing passion, she had for flying.
It was still technically true. The idea made it sound amazing. And in a way Hitch kinda owed her. Hitch showed Zipp how his life as a sheriff worked out for him days previously when they were both deprived of sleep. And the time when his critter friends were doing unwanted favors for him and even during the crisis with the unity crystals to some extent.
It seemed fair. And besides, she figured it would be another good test. If it worked for Izzy it could work for Hitch.
Hitch thought about it. And he ultimately said, “Yes. That would be great.” Hitch smiled at her.
“You uh. Wanna take this thing out for a spin right now?” Zipp asked.
Instantly Hitch said. “Of course! Flying with my best friend! But you’ll catch me if something goes wrong right?” Asked Hitch.
“Well, yeah, of course Hitch” said Zipp. She understood why he asked that, but she got a little emotional.
“Hitch. If I’m going to be honest, I would do anything to make sure you’re ok. If you ever got hurt or… I probably would never forgive myself. I mean, I would do this for all of us but, no matter what, I promise I’m looking out for you.” Said Zipp.
“And I promise I’m looking out for you!” Said Hitch.
That touched them both. And they blushed.
And they looked into each other's eyes. It felt fuzzy & warm, comforting & calm.
“How about we uh. Start flying?” Asked Hitch.
“Sure thing.” Said Zipp. The 2 shared a hug and walked towards the large open windows.
Zipp pulled back the curtain. Hitch activated the device and then he and Zipp took off into the night.
Hitch and Zipp were flying throughout the city. They saw a tall tower and flew upwards in a spiral motion. And then they took off into the clouds beyond the city limits. Thankfully Zephyr Heights was all the light they needed to navigate themselves back to the city.
Hitch was right ahead of Zipp. And Zipp was tailing just behind him and flying above him. And they were both chuckling.
And then they made their detour to go back to Zephyr Heights. As they made the turn they started flying downward. "Hey look!" said Hitch. Zipp was watching Hitch as he did a front flip. She smiled at that. And they started flying upward.
They got back to the city. They started flying in front of or behind buildings and flew over towers. As they flew, they caught the attention of passersby who either couldn't see them in time or were just confused. At one point the two literally flew right over the heads of several ponies at a nearby cafe.
Much to the shock of the crowd. "Wait. Is that Zipp?!" said one pony.
They were flying right towards the palace in the center. Flying in a spiral. And then straight. And then flying in curves to avoid the buildings.
Meanwhile, Sunny Starscout was having trouble sleeping. And she was out on the balcony. "If only I could see the stars." She said with a sigh. While the lights of Zephyr Heights were beautiful. Star gazing was not really an option in the overbearing glare. But then she saw something better. Zipp and Hitch flew by doing front flips.
"Wha...Is that Hitch!?" Sunny was taken aback. "H-Hey Hitch! How are you flying!?" She shouted not being able to see the new invention. She turned into her alicorn form, but just before she was ready to dive in and rescue Hitch. She looked again. Hitch had complete control of the situation. She didn't know how but she simply sat back down.
And suddenly Hitch noticed. "Hey Sunny! I'm ok! I can fly!" And then Zipp replied. "Heya Sunny! We'll explain everything tomorrow!" She said as the two flew off into the distance.
She watched them as she suddenly felt something click in her head. "Oh! I think I see what's going on." She said with a smug expression. "Ah what are they gonna do when they confess?"
They were flying by Izzy's window, but she was already asleep, so she didn't notice. Same with Pipp.
Queen Haven meanwhile was in her quarters. Getting ready to sleep as she saw them pass by her window. Much to her confusion. "What was that?" She said, she just dismissed it though. She was exhausted.
Soon they would fly so high that they could see the moonlight above the clouds. Hitch looked at the moon with complete awe. As Zipp flew right beside him. "Woah...I never had any idea flying would be this beautiful. I just never thought I would see the moon like this." Said Hitch with a tear in his eye.
"Yeah, you get used to it. Hey, you didn't feel uncomfortable trying this thing out, right? I wouldn't want to be-" Zipp was cut off.
"No, no not really. Well ok yeah a little bit but now I'm living for this." Hitch said with a smile. Zipp sighed with relief and said. "Oh good. I just didn't want to be 'that pony' to ya."
As they flew around for another detour they continued. "Well actually Zipp. It's because I trust you. I never knew that I wanted to do this until you showed me." Said Hitch with a smile.
"But I didn't make the device." Said Zipp.
"Well, you had the idea. And well, if anypony could make earth ponies fly with this weird gadget it's Izzy" Hitch said with a chuckle. Zipp chuckled too. "Truth!"
"But seriously though Hitch. Thank you so, so much for this. I'm so living for this!" Said Zipp. And Hitch nodded in agreement. "Best Night Ever?" Asked Hitch. "Best Night EVA!" Shouted Zipp.
Hitch and Zipp blushed as they looked into each other's eyes, only this time. They didn't look away, instead they hugged each other in a warm, fuzzy, calming, embrace. And they didn't know it, but some tears were shed. And they started flying down, neither of them knew it. But they were holding their forehooves together.
They flew down, back to the city. And when they were out of the clouds. They noticed. They didn't stop. They just held their hooves closer together. And they smiled at each other. The world seemed to just disappear completely as all they could think about was each other. And the best part of it all? They were completely ok with it. Everything was ok, everything was great...
But then disaster struck.
"Hitch? What is that red light on the pack?" Asked Zipp. Hitch's device was out of battery.
"Red li...uh oh!" Hitch started falling to Zephyr Heights. He was screaming all the way down. With Zipp giving chase down after him to catch him.
"Zipp Hellllp!" Hitch screamed. Zipp flew downward and caught him in mid-air. "I got you!" She said as they flew back to the palace. "I told ya I would catch you." She said,
Hitch's expression went from scared to excited. "Heh...HAHAHAHAHAHA! That was the biggest rush ever!" Said Hitch. "I tried flying and skydiving for the first time today!" Said Hitch laughing as they flew all the way back to the train station. And Zipp couldn't help but laugh along.
After they flew into the abandoned train station. Hitch and Zipp were plenty tired. Hitch got the flight device off of his back. And leaned it against one of the station's Ticket Booths.
“Well. Looks like Izzy still needs to add in a longer battery life.” Said Hitch.
Zipp turned off the lights as they headed back towards the lift. As they headed back up towards the main bedrooms. When they arrived at the guest suite the two parted.
“Goodnight. It was fun.” Said Zipp with a blush and a smile.
“It was amazing.” Said Hitch with the same expression.
They were soon back in bed. And they were out like a light.
-Two Days Later-
Everything was pretty laid back as the vacation went on. That morning the five friends were headed to the dining room for their breakfast. Everypony was wide awake and energetic. Sunny and Izzy were even speed trotting down the hall, humming a tune.
Queen Haven had been surprisingly casual about the meals. Though she knew that is basically what they wanted. She had been an amazing host. And today she had an assortment of pancakes out for them.
"This is amazing!" Said Izzy. "Yeah, these are better than mine." Said Sunny. "My pleasure Sunny." Queen Haven smiled but then she looked surprised. "Wait. You cook?" She asked Sunny.
"Oh yeah. She's a walking kitchen." Said Izzy. "Uh well... yeah actually I cook a lot of the crystal brighthouse meals." Said Sunny blushing.
"Oh, my pony! Mom Sunny's cooking is seriously amazing! I even said that instead of Sunday Dinners, we have 'Sunny-Day Dinners!' Ha! get it? It's totally a thing." Said Pipp excitedly. And Sunny just laughed at that.
After breakfast ended, Sunny was given a chance to show Queen Haven her cooking skills. Meanwhile Izzy & Pipp went down to the abandoned train station to find the flight device. When they found it, the red light was still blinking.
"Oh dear. Dead battery." Said Izzy. "I should probably give this thing a longer battery life. Welp! let's charge it up!" Izzy went behind the ticket booth and found an outlet; she pulled a long cord out of her mane and hooked the device into the wall. The red light stayed on and stopped blinking; it was charging.
Pipp was confused. "Uhhh where did you get that cord?" asked Pipp. "From the cord box in the suite." Izzy answered. "Wait...the guest suites have a cord box? And how does it fit into that?" asked Pipp. "Actually. What is that Izzy?"
Izzy jumped out of the booth. "Ohhh you are going to LOVE this! It's a device. That can make an earth pony FLYYY!" Izzy said as she spun around. Pipp was shocked "Are you for real!? It can seriously make an earth pony fly!?” She looked closer at it and saw the four propellers on it. "Well, it can make a unicorn fly too. But it's just a prototype." Izzy smiled. "Think about it, Pipp. All of our friends can fly together! There we would be Masters of the sky! All of us having a joy flight laughing, doing tricks, it is going to be AMAZING!" Izzy said, jumping up and down.
Pipp could hardly contain her excitement as well she was also jumping at the thought. "I have to show this to my pipsqueaks. They are going to love this! Um. when it's done of course." said Pipp. "Well, I can't take all the credit. It was Zipp's Idea. Oh wait! I can make the next one now!" Izzy said as she rushed towards the dumpster to make the next one. "W-Wait Izzy!" Pipp shouted as Izzy went into the dumpster. Then it clicked in her mind how she made it. "Ohhhhhh." Pipp said.
-After Lunch-
Pipp took everyone to the castle theater. Excited to watch her favorite double feature movie of all time. “The Ponight Legend.” The story of a bat pony who doesn’t want to hurt others but needs to suck blood to live. An interesting idea indeed.
“Oh, my pony, you are all going to love this!”
“It Sounds great Pipp I’m sure we will.” Said Sunny.
“Shh. Everypony. The movie is starting.” Said Izzy.
Everypony sat back for the movies before them. They had no idea of the greatness they were about the witness.
Everypony stepped out of the theater. Already wondering what would happen in the next part.
The vacation was close to ending. It gave the five everything they needed in more ways than one.
But Hitch’s attention. Was focused somewhere else. Several scenes in the movie reminded him of an old thought he had about the deputy position at the station. As he walked into a hallway away from everypony else. Or so he thought.
“I always said I needed a new deputy. I’ve got so much to do; dare I say too much. Maybe… it could really be. Zipp?” Hitch sighed. As he knew deep down this would be a good thing.
First and foremost, the prospect of this idea was limitless. “She’s great at figuring things out, she knows when something is up, she knows whenever I need help and well, now that I…” Hitch stopped himself, grinned and sighed peacefully. “I love her.” Said Hitch. “I-I love Zipp! I LOVE ZIPP!” Hitch said laughing.
“See? What did I say? Everypony loves somepony sometimes.” Said Sunny. She was right behind Hitch with Izzy right next to her.
“Ahh!” Hitch screamed. “How long were you watching?” Said Hitch. “Oh, just about the whole thing.” Said Sunny with a smug expression.
“So, you love Zipp?” Said Sunny. And Hitch said “yeah. There’s no point in denying it. I’m in love with Zipp.” Hitch smiled. “You seem pretty cool with it.” Said Sunny.
“Yeah. I thought about it. I should never be ashamed.” Said Hitch with a smug grin.
“Right you are.” Said Sunny.
Izzy looked puzzled. “Um. Sunny? Don’t we all ‘love’ each other?” Asked Izzy.
Sunny smirked. “Well yeah but as friends. You see, Hitch loves Zipp in a ‘romantic’ way. The way friends feel about each other is platonic love.”
“Romantic love?” Asked Izzy. Still confused.
“Wait Izzy. Do you seriously not know what that is?” Asked Sunny.
“No. Not really. But I think I know what love is.” Said Izzy.
Then, Hitch and Sunny remembered, the depressing atmosphere of bridlewood before the big change, would’ve almost certainly kept that from Izzy’s ears. “Oh wait! Izzy, I think I know why you never heard of it.” Said Sunny.
“Oh! Oh! Can you tell me? What is it? Is it contagious?” Asked Izzy.
Sunny couldn’t help but laugh a little. “No, it's a little harder to understand than that. Look I’ll tell you later K.,” said Sunny. Izzy Gleefully nodded yes.
“Oh, trust me. I know.” Said Hitch.
“So, Hitch. Were you serious about making Zipp the new deputy?” Asked Sunny.
“Ohhhhh nice! Zipp is going to love that!” Said Izzy.
Sunny was about to say something, but she paused and thought about it. “Actually yeah. Now that I think about it, she would be perfect.” Said Sunny.
“See I told ya! You would be like ‘the superheroes of maretime bay!’ And if you ask me.” Izzy said as she whispered into Hitch’s ear. “A certain baby dragon, would need some helping hooves, so you don’t look like a zombie anymore.” Izzy sat back down with a grin on her face.
“Eheheh. Don’t remind me.” Said Hitch knowing exactly what Izzy meant. He still remembered the first time.
After a while. The intermission ended. And the second part of the movie started.
The Movie had ended. It was amazing, and it went through all the emotions. But refreshingly didn’t end with tears. Just plain good satisfaction. And a smile.
But a certain Zipp Storm felt only one thing, after spending both screenings sitting next to Hitch. Felt one emotion.
Joy.
Zipp was trot-dancing in the hallway on her own, as she had the dumbest smile on her face. And just then Sunny and Pipp showed up.
“Um, are you ok Zipp?” Asked Pipp. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you dance like that before.” Said Pipp with a chuckle.
“Oh uh. You're not recording are you!?” Asked Zipp. “Uh no.” Answered Pipp.
“Oh well I uh. Honestly, I’m better than ok.” Said Zipp with a smile.
“Why? Was the movie that good?” Asked Sunny.
“Oh yeah, it was amazing. But well…” Zipp was about to go on. But she was hesitant. Her crush on Hitch hadn’t gone unnoticed. But she was most hesitant about telling Pipp. Out of fear that she might reveal the secret.
Zipp sighed. “I don’t know if I can say ‘how I fell’ yet.” Said Zipp cluing Sunny in.
Sunny nodded in response.
“Um. Zipp, is there something going on?” Asked Pipp. “Zipp. What is it?” Pipp continued.
Sunny looked at Zipp and said. “Zipp. You know you’re going to have to tell Pipp at some point.”
Zipp facehoofed mostly because she knew Sunny was right. “Ok.” Said Zipp.
“Ok Pipp. When I tell you this, PLEASE! Don’t tell anypony else.” Zipp begged.
“Ok, I won’t.” Said Pipp bluntly.
“Pipp, for a while now I’ve had a crush on Hitch. I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you would tell somepony the big secret. Look I trust you, but please. Don’t tell Hitch, and don’t post anything about this online. I’m finally starting to feel comfortable having feelings for him. And I’ll tell him when I want to.” Said Zipp.
Pipp gasped in both shock and joy. “Sis! Oh, my pony! I’m so happy for you! And look, don’t worry. I won’t tell anypony. It’s actually kinda scary and creepy to gossip about that online. Trust me, I know…” Said Pipp.
“Wait seriously?” Said Zipp.
“Zipp. There are some FREAKS! online that make some…ugh…very, very! Disturbing rumors. You have no idea how creepy it is!” Stressed Pipp.
“Yes I do. That’s why I don’t want followers.” Said Zipp.
“Oh… I. Zipp I’m sorry I just, you and everypony else broke me out of my comfort zone, and I ended up liking it, a lot. And then we bought ponies back together and magic came back. So I thought you would like followers if you broke out of your comfort zone.” Said Pipp.
“Oh… Pipp. Look, I break out of my comfort zone at my own pace. And I’m so sorry about that night. And how you-“ Said Zipp as she was cut off.
“Don’t be. I told you, I like everything we did. I wouldn’t have opened mane melody or have friends like all of you.” Said Pipp sincerely.
Sunny smiled at that. “Aw thanks Pipp.” She said as she gave Pipp a hug. And Zipp joined in.
“So, when did you start crushing on Hitch?” Asked Pipp with a sly grin.
“Oh well, I don’t actually remem-“ Zipp was cut off again.
“Riiiight. It totally wasn’t love at first sight huh?” Said Pipp.
Zipp blushed a deep red. She had no idea at the time. But she made a point.
“Oh. And that time when you were at the sheriff station?” Said Pipp grinning smugly.
“I-I. How did you know that!?” Said Zipp hiding her face behind her wings.
“Oh, Hitch told me everything. And wow sis! you were so, flirting with him.” Said Pipp.
“Duh- ah!” Stuttered Zipp.
“I knew it all along sis. I knew you like-y Hitch-y.” Pipp teased again.
“Dagh! Make it stop!” Said Zipp, turning a deep shade of red.
Sunny was chuckling. “She’s actually kinda right though. You were kinda flirting.” Said Sunny.
“Seriously though, Zipp. I’m happy for you. And I hope things turn out good Zippy~!” Finished Pipp. As she started patting Zipp on the head.
Zipp was on the floor in the fetal position. Completely embarrassed. Yet happy that things went better with Pipp then she expected.
“Dinner!” Shouted Queen Haven. And the five friends burst into the Kitchen. Ready for what food was prepared.
As they sat down though everypony couldn’t help but feel that Zipp looked off. “Uh why does it look like Zipp’s soul left her body?” Asked Hitch.
“Eheheh… it’s kinda my fault. But nevermind I know what to do.” Said Pipp. She flew over to Zipp and splashed a cup of water in her face. She moved her head back and forth and then came to. “Oh! Sorry I just zoned out.” Said Zipp.
“It’s ok, Zipp. We all have those moments.” Said Pipp as she flew back to her seat.
“Yep. Remember that time you were sneaking into the station, and I didn’t know?” Said Hitch.
And Zipp chuckled. “Yeah.” Zipp replied.
Just then Zipp heard a ding on her phone.
A text from Pipp. “You should tell him soon.”
Zipp blushed. And sent a text back. “I will. After we get back to maretime bay.”
Zipp closed her eyes. And she realized that she would indeed need to tell Hitch about her feelings. But there was another reason she wanted to hold it off.
Soon. Everypony was eating up.
Several times, Zipp and Hitch would be looking at each other across the table and would quickly look away when they noticed.
When everypony left the table. Zipp was walking alongside Sunny & Pipp. When they were in the hall they were talking about the situation.
“So, I’m going to tell him. But it’s not going to be easy. I mean it shouldn’t bother me if he doesn’t ‘like me back’ but it kinda does.” Said Zipp.
“Zipp. This is all a first-time thing for you. Why wouldn’t you be afraid?” Asked Sunny.
“Well, it’s just... I know we’ll just go back to being friends if he doesn’t ‘like’ me back. And I’m not afraid of that. I just don’t want us to grow further and further apart…” Said Zipp.
Zipp continued. “And no, it’s not like I think things would get awkward or heated between us if he didn’t feel the same way about me. I just… I’m afraid of our friendship just getting distant and we do less and less until we just stop seeing each other… that’s the fear. It’s not about getting rejected, it's about what could happen after it.”
“You know that’s not inevitable, Zipp. In fact, I’m sure Hitch would hate that idea too. He would make sure that wouldn’t happen.” Said Sunny.
“I know Sunny… but it doesn’t make me less afraid of being neglected.” Said Zipp.
Pipp meanwhile was quiet. She looked like she was about the cry. Then the 3 stepped into Pipp’s room. Pipp sat down on the bed lost in thought trying to calm herself down. She thought internally. “I can’t believe I needed to hear that…I’m just a silly face on the canternet without them. I didn’t know how afraid of it I was. Now I finally know…”
“Pipp, are you ok?” Asked Zipp.
Pipp calmed down enough to speak “Zipp, remember that first night? The night where we first went on the run?” Said Pipp.
“Yeah” answered Zipp.
“My show was ruined, you ran away. And everypony hated me… all of my fans. I was literally being hung out to dry. I never felt sadder before in my life. For the first time ever, I felt like I could never be an inspiration to ponies ever again, I felt like I wasn’t important, I was abandoned, I WAS HUMILIATED!
But then I got angry! I swung myself out of the tangled wires in a fit of rage. Grabbed the crystal and ran off.
Mom was gone. So, I went looking for you because you were literally all I had when it all happened. And then well, I found you, I gave you the crystal and went on the run with everypony else.
And I still felt alone until. While we were trotting, Hitch & Izzy started talking to me. And well, before I knew it, I was getting better.
Hitch wanted to know more about me, and Izzy cheered me up. And then one night when we were all sitting around that campfire. I finally felt special again, but I don’t know what it is. But I felt special in another way. Izzy hugged me and that kinda broke me. Hehe.
And I think it’s probably because you guys are the first real friends I ever had. I started knowing who all of you were. Even you Zipp, I knew you my whole life. But I felt like I understood you for the first time that night. I don’t know about you but. I love my fans, but you guys gave me something that no fanbase of Pippsqueaks ever could.
That’s why I wanted to help you bring magic back. Because I didn’t want to leave my friends behind, I couldn’t feel alone again…” Finished Pipp.
Zipp was tearing up. “Pipp, I get it.” Pipp pulled Zipp in for a hug. “I know.” Said Pipp. Then Sunny joined in the hug. “Pipp, I promise we’ll never leave you. You are special. And I’m glad I can be special enough to show you that.” Said Sunny.
Pipp cried tears of joy after that. And Zipp shed a tear too. All of them held hooves together as their cutie marks glowed. “Thank you so much.”
-Meanwhile-
Izzy activated the elevator into the abandoned train station. Looking around. Until she found something. “Oh, there you are!” She found the flight device leaning against one of the ticket booths. She turned it on and saw the battery was dead. “Aw. Dead battery. Welp! Time to charge!” She got a cord and went back up the elevator. As she walked back, she thought. “Hmm, I should probably make the battery life longer.” She thought to herself. As she figured, charging it with a literal phone cord would drain the battery faster. “Hmm, maybe an actual plug might help. Oh! Maybe a bigger battery but oh, wait I don’t want it to weigh it down.” Izzy thought out loud until she bumped into Hitch.
“Oh, hey Izzy. Uh, do you know where Sunny, Zipp & Pipp are?” asked Hitch.
“No. But we can find them! Come on Hitch, let's seek the hiding ponies.” Said Izzy cheerfully. Trotting along carrying the flight device. With Hitch trotting along wondering where they might be.
Izzy and Hitch looked everywhere. But eventually they caught up with Sunny walking in the halls. And she told them where she was. And the 3 were back in the castle suite.
Hitch meanwhile stepped out onto the balcony. Izzy & Sunny followed him out.
“Thinking about something?” Said Sunny.
“Oh, uh Sunny. I didn’t see you there.” Stuttered Hitch. “Yeah actually I. Thought about it and. I’m pretty sure I have to confess to Zipp when we get back.” Hitch finished.
“Really?!” Said Izzy jumping excitedly. “Yeah, but I… well. ugh, I don’t know how I’m going to do it, ok!” Hitch said while putting his head in his hooves.
Sunny was having too much fun watching their relationship unfold. She had indirectly become the wingpony to both of them throughout this entire event. It couldn’t have been any more perfect. But part of Sunny still wondered why. Why her?
“Well just be upfront & honest about it. Honesty is the best policy after all.” Said Izzy. “I know, I know. I just. Why do I feel like I need to do more with this? I don’t have to do much, do I?” Said Hitch. “I was talking about Zipp Hitch.” said Izzy.
Hitch lifted his head. “Huh? What do you mean by that?” Hitch questioned.
“I mean even if she doesn’t feel the same way. I don’t think she would be cruel or anything. I think she would be calm & honest about her feelings. You are her best friend eva!” Said Izzy with a smile.
Both Hitch & Sunny’s eyes bugged out of their heads. “Wow that is. Shockingly true.” Said Sunny. “Izzy? Where did you learn that about romantic love?” Sunny asked in confusion.
“What? Oh that, No, I'm still a little confused about that. I just thought that’s what friends did though. Right?” Said Izzy.
Hitch & Sunny smiled. “You know what? You’re absolutely right Izzy. Don’t you think so Hitch?” Asked Sunny.
“And hey I think I have an idea. You could go one step further and show her that you love her.” Said Sunny.
“Ehhh maybe but uh. Wouldn’t all of this still be a little too straightforward? Wouldn’t that just make things awkward?” Said Hitch.
Sunny then got the smuggest face ever. “Maybe not. Probably because I remember a good friend told me how honesty is the best policy, and a little gift might not hurt either.” She said, giving a wink to Hitch.
Hitch’s eyes bugged out of his head again. Everything made sense at that moment. Then he started laughing.
“Um, are you ok?” Said Sunny, chuckling.
“Oh, oh my pony! Yes, I am. I just needed a reminder SO BAHAHAHAD!” Said Hitch laughing.
“Thank you two so much. But in all seriousness, I think I’m worrying because I’m still getting used to these things. You are the first real friends I ever really had in a while.” Said Hitch.
Izzy hugged him. “So am I Hitch. But I’m having the time of my life.” said Izzy.
“Yeah, I am too. I just hope it doesn’t end.” Said Hitch.
“Oh yeah. I would be a crying depressed bean who lays on the floor if I got back to my old life.” Izzy said with some underlying seriousness. Hitch felt that too. “Yeah. I would probably never be the sheriff if I had to leave all of you.” said Hitch.
Sunny lit up at that. “You both don’t want to be alone. Right?” Said Sunny.
“Sunny let’s just say if we were all alone. I don’t think we would know what’s best for ourselves.” Said Hitch.
“Ohhhh wait! Yes, you’re right!” Said Sunny, having a realization.
“If it wasn’t for our friendship magic wouldn’t have returned to equestria. We had no idea it was our friendship that fuels the crystals, until we were all brought back together to bring out our best in each other! That’s why we can invent new magic! Imagine what else we can do.” Said Sunny.
“Who knows?” Said Izzy with glee.
Sunny sat down and smiled. “Yeah. But I get what you’re saying Hitch.” Said Sunny with understanding.
“You don’t want to be around yourself too long. Without somepony else to show you what something different might look like. Well, your home basically became your own jail cell.” said Hitch.
“Oooo! Yeah. I can relate to that. Take it from a pony who lived alone in the woods.” Said Izzy smiling.
“That’s actually a really nice way to put it. So, you see why confessing to Zipp would actually be better no matter what way it goes? She’s never going to leave you Hitch no matter what.” said Sunny with a reassuring expression.
“Yeah! I feel great! Thanks, so much.” Hitch hugged Sunny & Izzy and they returned the hug back, and their cutie marks glowing.
Just then a thought came into Hitch’s mind. “Speaking of not being alone. I think I’m also going to ask her about being the new deputy too. I just don’t know how she’d feel about that. You think she would want to do this.”
“Do you want me or Izzy to ask her how she’d feel about that?” Asked Sunny.
“Nah. I think I’ll be fine with whatever answer she gives. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. But I’ll do it. And well, Izzy I thought about what you said. And maybe you’re right. Maybe she would love that.” Said Hitch.
“That’s the spirit!” Said Izzy.
Just then there was a knock at the door. Sunny ran to open it, and it was none other than Zipp & Pipp “What is up everypony!” shouted Pipp.
“Anyone up for some gaming tonight?” Shouted Zipp. “We realized we actually never sat down and had a game party night so far. I’m up for it.” Said Pipp.
“I’m in.” Said Sunny.
“I am,” said Hitch.
“Me too!” Shouted Izzy.
“Alrighty! Who's up for some hoof dance revolution?” Asked Pipp. “Actually. I think only you would be good at that one. Little Pipp.” said Zipp.
“Oh, come on! I’m not small!” said Pipp blushing.
“Hey now we’re even. I’ve got an even better game for you.” Said Zipp. Pulling the game from under her wing.
“Oooo I’d play that one.” said Pipp “Everypony else?” Asked Pipp.
One Night Zipp was back in the abandoned train station. Looking outside the window.
“Hey Zipp.” Said Hitch, walking by.
“Agh! How did you get down here?” Asked Zipp, taken aback. “Oh I just climbed down one of the lift’s ropes,” said Hitch.
“Oh. Well, not much is going on. I’m just thinking of what’s going to happen when we get back.” Said Zipp. Hitch sat down next to her by the window.
“You know I think I get what you mean. I had fun but I’m actually excited to get back.” said Hitch. And Zipp was looking at Hitch, blushing. “Yeah heheheh. A lot happened between us right?” said Zipp. Now Hitch was blushing. “Yeah you’re right. You’re right. I probably wouldn’t have had as much fun without you.” said Hitch.
“Truth. Same here. Your reaction in that movie was priceless.” said Zipp chuckling. “R-really?” said Hitch. “I mean I was sitting right next to you.” said Zipp.
“Oh… yeah. And that game last night. You owned it, you’re actually a really good dancer.” Said Hitch.
“It was Pipp’s idea!” said Zipp. “I know but it was amazing,” said Hitch. “Not as amazing as you! Pipp was like, sinking in the couch when you were busting those moves!” said Zipp.
“Oh yeah?” said Hitch and then they were laughing. But unknowingly their hooves fell on top of each other and they stopped laughing. Then they looked at each other blushing again. “Uh… I'' Hitch stuttered. They turned their heads away, and parted their hooves.
But it didn’t take long for them to face each other again. “H-hey. I wanted to ask. You want to sleep here tonight?” asked Zipp.
Hitch’s face lit up. “Oh! Uh…sure! But where?”
Zipp got up and led Hitch towards one of the old trains. “In here. These train seats are actually really comfortable. You’d be surprised.” said Zipp as she pried one of the train car doors open. She turned the lights on and the train walls were golden with seats that were red velvet. “Well this place is just full of surprises.” Said Hitch as he laid down on one of them. The seats were actually long enough to be a bed.
“Oh wow! You’re right. These are the best seats ever!” said Hitch like a little kid in a candy store. Zipp. Could you imagine if this was the place we retreated to if equestria didn’t want us together. This place would rock!” said Hitch.
“Oh wow. That would actually be pretty cool! But I’m happy that ‘all’ of equestria is living in harmony.” said Zipp.
“Oh absolutely!” Said Hitch.
-Two Days Later-
The vacation had ended. And the five friends were on their way back to maretime bay. They had fun, it was a fun & relaxing break. But now they were all more excited than ever to get back on track. And just like the first time they were having too much fun in the carriage during the night they were headed back. Complete with Pipp once again playing a catchy song and all.
Soon they arrived. And the carriage made it’s descent just in front of the crystal brighthouse. “Welcome home.” Said Sunny walking out of the carriage. Hitch right behind her. “Ok Sunny, but first thing’s first, I gotta head over to the station and get Zoom & Thunder.” said Hitch.
“Want me to come along?” Said Zipp bursting out of the carriage. “Sure. If you three can take care of the bags.” said Hitch.
Izzy leapt out of the carriage, lit up her horn and picked some of the luggage up with her magic. “I think we got it all under control, Hitch.” Said Izzy pointing at her horn. “Well uh ok then, call if you need any help!” said Hitch. And Zipp & Hitch both walked off to the station. Just then Pipp stepped out of the carriage. “It’s quiet,” said Pipp.
“Yeah it’s pretty late. I wonder if Zoom & Thunder might be asleep?” said Sunny.
Zipp heard her phone ring. It was Pipp. “Uh Pipp?” asked Zipp. “Zipp Zoom & Thunder might be asleep. Are you at the station?” asked Pipp.
“Uh yeah but the lights are on. I’ll keep that in mind. Need any help?” asked Zipp. “No, no, no. We’ve got it all. Just go on.” said Pipp. And she hung up.
“What was that about?” asked Hitch. “She thought Zoom & Thunder might be asleep,” said Zipp. “K…” Hitch said as he opened the station doors. And much to their surprise Zoom & Thunder were indeed asleep in the middle of the floor with their armor still on. “Do they ever take their helmets off?” asked Hitch. “I never actually saw them without it.” Zipp looked around and saw Sparky was in his crib asleep.
And the critter friends were all piled on Hitch’s desk asleep.
“So… how do we wake them up?” asked Hitch. “I don’t know,” said Zipp. Just then she got an idea. “Wait, I got it. Take their helmets off.” said Zipp.
“Whaaat?” said Hitch in his own confusion. “Trust me this will work. You get Zoom I’ll get Thunder.” so the two circled their way around Zoom & Thunder grabbed their helmets and started to very easily take them off.
Just then…
Zoom & Thunder immediately opened their eyes and screamed. “DAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! ARMOR ALERT!” They shot up flying and it woke the critters up. Zipp & Hitch dragged them both down and placed their hooves over their mouths. “Sush!” They both said as they did not want to wake Sparky.
Sparky was still sound asleep though he simply rolled over to the other side.
Once they removed their hooves from Zoom & Thunder. They sat around the desk. “Ugh… welcome back.” said Zoom looking like death.
“Is there any other way you could’ve woke us up?” asked Thunder. “Nope.” said Zipp. “Ok just please. Never. Ever touch our helmets. Got it?” said Zoom. “Alright, alright, jeez. Annnyway the chariot is by the crystal bright house ready for you to get back. Are you both packed?” said Hitch.
“Yes. Our bags are under the desk.” said Thunder, who looked about as dead as Zoom. “So how did it go?” asked Hitch. “Honestly it wasn’t that hard. I mean Sparky was a bit of a hooful but we made it through.” Said Zoom. “Yeah. I mean there was that one-time Posey kept sticking notes on Dahlia’s front door.” said Thunder. “And?” asked Hitch. “We let her off with a light fine and she stopped.” said Zoom. “Huh. How oddly convenient. Are you sure nothing else happened?” asked Hitch.
“Well yeah but uh… look maybe we’ll tell you another time ok. We’re tired and we need to get back to sleep.” said Zoom. “Oh yeah sorry. Uh we’ll carry the bags out to the carriage you just walk to it. Alright see you there.” said Zipp as the two walked out. Then Hitch and Zipp got some bags and followed them out.
They got to the bright house and started loading the carriage up. Zoom & Thunder were already in the carriage sleeping again. “The others are probably already asleep now. So, I’ll just crash in, I have a key.” said Zipp as she threw a bag in. “Ok. You’ll be ok right?” asked Hitch. “Yeah. Of course, I’ll be just. Will you be?” asked Zipp. “Well yeah, I’ll be fine. Guess there’s no harm in just asking right?” asked Hitch. “Right.” Said Zipp.
Soon all the bags were loaded in. “Alright that should be it. See ya guys later!” said Zipp as the carriage took off. “Bye” said Hitch.
Now that left Zipp & Hitch alone. Zipp sighed. “Hitch. I um. Are you sure you want to go back to the station?” asked Zipp.
“I can do it. But hey Zipp?” Asked Hitch. “Zipp I, I have this thing I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while. But I don’t think I can say it tonight. It’s something really important and well we’re both tired and you think you can wait?” Asked Hitch again.
“Sure. Anytime buddy. And come to think of it. I got something I wanted to tell you too. But you’re right we’ll need to be at our full mental absorption when we do.” Zipp said as her eyelids got heavy. “I mean attentive absorption. Yeah, I’m sleepy.” said Zipp.
“Yeah. Well, uh. Goodnight Zipp, have sweet dreams.” said Hitch. “Goodnight, Hitch. See you in the morning.” said Zipp. The two shared a brief hug before they parted. Hitch walked back to the station and Zipp walked into the bright house. Both were out like lights. Little did they know they were not just sleepy because of the late hour. It was a headache.
Zipp’s wings were gone. “Wha- what’s happening!?” Hitch ran over to her and wondered what was happening. “Where are your wings? Where did they go?!” Asked Hitch.
All of the sudden Zipp’s ears turned into tiny wings. “Wake up.” Said Zipp.
Hitch woke up with a gasp. “It was just a dream.” Hitch looked at the clock. And it was 10:30 AM. “What the- darn it! Was I really that tired last night?” Hitch started scurrying around the station getting ready to head out to the Crystal Brighthouse.
Hitch then went to check on Sparky but he was still fast asleep. Hitch carefully put Sparky in his backpack and headed out. When he opened the door a gush of wind blew on his face. But it was still Sunny without any clouds. Nevertheless, Hitch continued on his way.
When Hitch got into the Brighthouse he was surprised to see Sunny just making breakfast. And everypony else is laying back looking tired. Except for Zipp. “Wait. Don’t you make breakfast earlier than this?” Asked Hitch.
“We kinda all just woke up Hitch.” Said Sunny.
“Heh yeah, we all slept in. But this coffee hits the spot. Boy were you right Hitch.” Said Zipp.
“Oh heheheh. Say, do you have any more left?” Asked Hitch.
Zipp got a cup and the pot. But Hitch just took the whole pot and started drinking out of it. He literally drank the whole thing. “Ahhhhh~ I feel more alive already…” said Hitch more energetically. Then Zipp just handed Hitch her coffee cup with a shocked expression. And Hitch just drank from that. “Oh yeah. Thank you Zipp.” Said Hitch. “Yeeeeaaaah. No more coffee for you.” Said Zipp.
“I’ll get more.” Said Sunny starting up the machine again.
Soon after everypony ate up and drank coffee to clear their head everypony was in front of the TV.
“Mix Sunny Smoothies. Make New Ones.” An ad was on, detailing Sunny’s smoothie cart. “How much did you pay for that?” Asked Pipp.
“Eh. It wasn’t too expensive. I figured I should create at least one ad in my life.” Said Sunny with a content grin. “Wanna see mine?” Asked Pipp.
But just before Sunny was about to answer something scary happened. The TV stopped, and the alarms went off. And the channel immediately changed to Maretime Bay News Network. MBNN.
“Attention all Maretime Bay residents! This just in, Hurricane Adi is headed towards the coastline tomorrow! This is your last chance to get supplies and board up. Be prepared though this Hurricane has grown at an alarming rate. It is expected to be a category 5 storm at landfall. And has a fast wind speed of 175 miles per hour. That is all on MBNN. Be safe out there!” And then the TV turned back to it’s regular program.
Everypony was shocked. Jaws dropped on the floor. Their sudden tiredness all made sense. Headaches from what was to come. “Ponies…” said Sunny.
“To the store now!” Shouted Sunny.
“Hitch get the window boards, pick up Sparky’s things & get your critter friends inside! Pipp get the food & batteries and keep track of the supply! Zipp backup generators & flashlights! Izzy put the boards in place and stacked some sandbags outside! I’ll make sure everything is inside & safe let’s go!” Said Sunny as everypony ran off with utter dismay and horror in their faces as they realized what was to come.
The process took nearly the entire day. It was tedious, boring and long but everypony worked together and finished the job.
Everypony was exhausted. “Good work…ponies.” Said Sunny. She looked back and saw all the other homes in Maretime bay were boarded up. And a huge wall of sandbags & trenches was placed on the coastline.
Everypony went inside to relax for the evening. “The unity crystals will be ok right? Maretime Bay… won’t be completely wiped out right?” Asked Zipp. Zipp didn’t want to be afraid, but this was the first Hurricane she ever experienced. Zephyr Heights never had those before.
“Yes. We boarded them up for the light to still go out but everything around it is protected. They can hold their own.” Said Sunny. Sunny was worried too, but she still had confidence that everything would be fine.
Maretime bay experienced a lot of Hurricanes before, and every time all hoped for the best but prepared for the worst.
Everypony still kept up a brave face. But inside they were still worried.
Everypony in Maretime Bay. Had only one unwritten rule when the Hurricane Struck.

Everypony had a friend with them to get through it. Except one…
That night everypony went to sleep early. Knowing the later hours were going to be nothing but scary chaos. It was no different in the crystal brighthouse.
All hoofphones were plugged in. All portable batteries were charged. All of Hitch’s critter friends had their own room to look after Sparky inside Sunny’s smoothie trailer. Which was brought inside for safety.
The five friends meanwhile were all huddled up together on the sofa with a huge blanket over their heads, asleep while regular TV was on. It would’ve been hard at first. But the fact they were all together essentially cuddling each other on the sofa made it easier to sleep peacefully. But they knew it probably wouldn’t last long.
As the night continued. The wind was getting faster. And the rain was just getting started.
And then. It happened. In the early morning hours of the next day. A loud thundercrack woke everypony from their sleep. And frightened everypony. Sunny briefly looked at the wall clock. It was 5:30 AM in the morning.
It awoke Sparky and he was crying. And the critters immediately got to work trying to comfort him. Even though they were visibly scared themselves.
Sunny, Izzy, Zipp, Pipp & Hitch were all trembling in fear. Zipp held Hitch’s hoof and he held Zipp’s.
Everything outside was a nightmare.
It was still dark. And the wind was incredibly fast. The wind howled among mane street.
And tore down the trees, it ripped off roofs and flattened fences.
Streetlights fell, benches were tipped, gardens destroyed, rocks & debris hitting window boards. The station’s sign even fell off.
The only thing that stood were steel statues which suffered no damage at all.
But the carnage was devastating.
Just outside of Posey’s house. Lightning Struck just outside. Inside her house posey could still see the lightning glow even in total darkness. And then the Thunder was so loud it was like a cannonball was fired.
Posey was crying. And worst of all. She was the only pony in all of maretime bay who was completely alone.
And now it was too late. And she knew it. The realization of how alone she was came crashing down on her. And she simply whimpered. “I’m sorry…” she said before crying again.
The wind blew until the sun came up.
But it was completely blocked out by the heavy grey clouds. And even worse it started to hail outside. Chunks of ice started hailing down.
The power lines were swaying in the wind blowing. And then there was trouble.
A power line completely fell to the ground exploding on impact and snapping it from it’s wires. Most of maretime bay was already out of power. But this was the one that blacked everything out.
Inside the crystal brighthouse things got worse. Sparky was back asleep, but the five friends were on the verge of tears.
Pipp was already crying and so was Izzy. Sunny & Zipp tried to keep it in.
And Hitch was hyperventilating.
Hitch and Zipp held their hooves closer together until lightning struck again bright enough to pierce past the boards. And the thunder once again sounded loud enough to feel like a cannon was fired. And then another loud crash came. A large rock hit the left window board of the brighthouse slightly cracking it.
That was enough to set everypony over and they all started crying. Everypony hugged each other. But in the middle of the group hug was Hitch and Zipp they were in each other's full embrace. Zipp’s head under his.
“Hitch. Why am I so scared…?” Asked Zipp not being able to hold back her tears anymore. “I don’t know. B-But I am too.” Said Hitch crying as well. They held each other closer together.
“We just gotta stay together.” Said Hitch. “I know Hitch, but I don’t even know if we can, after this…” whimpered Zipp.
“I want to believe maretime bay won’t be completely wiped out but-“ Zipp was cut off mid-sentence.
“Then listen, Zipp. Remember how yesterday we said we needed to tell each other something?” Asked Hitch. After another thunder crack jumped everypony.
“I-I was going to say…” Stuttered Hitch.
This made Pipp, Izzy & Sunny open their eyes. They knew what was coming.
“Hitch…?” Asked Zipp.
“Z-zi-i-ipp. I-I” after stuttering one more time. He calmed himself enough to say it.
“I love you Zipp.” Said Hitch.
Zipp gasped in shock, tears forming in her eyes.
“Y-you mean?” Zipp stuttered.
“Yes. Zipp you’re a very special pony. No matter what. You will always be worth it to me.” Said Hitch.
Even in complete darkness Zipp could tell he was smiling.
Zipp smiled back. And they were now crying tears of joy.
“Hitch…I love you too.” Said Zipp.
Hitch’s eyes opened with wonder.
“You’re more than just a sheriff Hitch. You’re an incredible guy and you… oh! Just Kiss me now Hitch!”
And it happened. They kissed. Tears rolled down their eyes.
At last, their feelings were finally out. The storm was completely silent as all they could feel was blooming blossoms of love. And the warmth of their embrace.
And then something amazing happened. Their bodies started glowing completely. And their eyes opened, their eyes were completely white.
And then everything completely stopped.
The storm clouds completely centered themselves over the Crystal Brighthouse. And started to get sucked into it.
The unity crystals were glowing brighter than ever before. In a great flash of light, the protective boards around it was shoved away.
The crystals were collecting the storm. The wind was slowing down and the rain stopped.
Soon the whole storm got sucked into the unity crystals. And Maretime Bay returned to it’s regular Sunny day without clouds.
Sunny, Izzy & Pipp were all passed out on the floor.
Hitch & Zipp stopped glowing and they closed their eyes.
Hitch and Zipp were hugging each other. It was the most peaceful moment they could’ve experienced. They could’ve just sat there hugging each other their whole lives. But then the silence was broken.
“Ugh… what happened.” Said Sunny. “The storm is over!” Said Izzy. Pipp woke up and they all looked at the adorable scene and let loose a. “Awwwwww!!!”
“You really love me don’t you?” Said Hitch.
“Yeah, Hitch no matter what. You’re funny and charismatic, charming & caring. You’ll always be an amazing pony who just loves doing what he does for other ponies. You’re honestly a hero Hitch, ponies & creatures love you. I don’t know about you but that’s honestly a lot of appreciation from everyone. I can seriously only imagine what that’s like. And well everything you’ve done for me since we became friends. It’s just, thank you so much for everything, Hitch.” Said Zipp laying into Hitch.
“Well you’re right Zipp. I’m probably more Incredible then I let on. But you are too. You’re hilarious, integral, devoted & inspirational. Zipp you’re not just a good flyer, you’re there for us whenever something flies over our heads, you look out for other ponies as good as me, you like to mix things up when something doesn’t seem to work the way we expect, You know how to tackle something head on, you don’t ignore things when they come up, and you say things in ways ponies always understand. And well let’s not forget how you love figuring things out.” Said Hitch.
“Oh yeah, I’m probably never going to stop that.” Said Zipp.
“Well I’m actually really glad to hear you say that. You know why?” Asked Hitch.
“Why?” Asked Zipp.
“Because Zipp. I want you to work with me at the station. As the new deputy of maretime bay. Will you?” Asked Hitch.
Zipp’s eyes were tearing up again. “Of course, I will!” Said Zipp, hugging Hitch again. “Though I have to admit. I’d rather be called, ‘detective’ doesn’t that sound better?” Asked Zipp.
“Absolutely. You are detective Zipp!” Shouted Hitch.
Zipp’s eyes lit up.
“Look at that. The sheriff & The detective.” Said Sunny.
“I can’t believe this!” Said Zipp. Hugged Hitch tightly.
“I’m glad you like it.” Said Hitch as he embraced back.
Pipp was crying tears of joy. And so was Izzy.
“Sunny. Is this how good romantic love feels.” Asked Izzy.
Sunny was crying too. “Yes Izzy.” Said Sunny.
“Well actually now that the storm is over. We should probably head outside and see if everypony is ok.” Said Sunny.
They went onto mane street. And they were shocked at the mess. They could see the storm’s carnage all around them. And the beach had almost flooded. The water was over the sandbags and the trenches were full. “Woah look at the power line!” Shouted Zipp.
“The station sign fell off!” Shouted Hitch. He briefly looked around and found it shattered. “Oh, there it is.” Said Hitch.
Sunny pondered. She knew that she would need a lot of helping hooves outside maretime bay. But still everypony needed to pitch in. “Well. We’re going to need some help cleaning this. Tomorrow I’ll make an announcement to everypony to clean this place up. We’re all in this together everypony!” Shouted Sunny.
“Oooo look at all these things I could unicycle!” Said Izzy as she started hopping around.
“I’ll call mom & Alphabittle to come by.” Said Pipp. “Hi Alpha B. So, if you heard the news.” Pipp trailed off on the phone.
After looking around Zipp & Hitch looked into each other’s eyes. “Well, is this our first mission? Cause I wouldn’t mind it.” Said Zipp. “Yes, it is. And I wouldn’t want to miss a second of it.” Said Hitch.
And they kissed again.
“I love you Hitch.” Said Zipp. “I love you too Zipp.” Said Hitch. As the two stared out into the sun and held their hooves together. Great things were on the horizon for the new couple. And they would do it together.
-1 Day Later-
Sunny and Pipp hosted a livestream in an attempt to gain Maretime Bay’s cleanup support. Most ponies were absolutely shocked at the damage. As they never really experienced a Hurricane nevermind the full extent of it’s power.
Izzy meanwhile was doing an incredible job. By taking the junk that the storm left behind and making really useful devices and tools that could help out. She was even working on a brand-new flight device out of the Junk.
Hitch and Zipp meanwhile were investigating the area to see if anypony was ok.
“Hitch. Can I just say how relieved I feel now that we finally know we’ve been into each other?” Asked Zipp.
“Yeah. I honestly feel the same way.” Said Hitch. As the two walked about Maretime Bay. They helped move some junk blocking the doorways. After helping Dahlia out of her house. Alphabittle & Izzy came by and started cleaning up the area.
Zipp and Hitch temporarily went back to the station and sat down for a while.
“So Zipp. Does this mean that… we’re a ‘thing’ now?” Asked Hitch.
“Well. Do you want it to be?” Asked Zipp.
“Um yeah! I guess I’m just a little bit nervous is all. I mean having a crush is one thing but actually being in an item?” Said Hitch.
“Yeah, I am too. But I mean we can make it work. You know we can make it work. Right?” Asked Zipp.
Hitch thought about it, and he ultimately figured it out. While the typical problems and issues of a relationship were inevitable. He figured that the dynamic that both He and Zipp had was practically perfect for this kind of thing. At least when it came to each other.
“You know what Zipp. You’re absolutely right. I do know. Remember when we had that night out? I don’t know about you but I felt like a huge weight went off of my shoulders. It felt great. And it felt even better to finally get all of that out.” Said Hitch
“Honestly, I felt the same way. And it’s actually shocking to me, because I was just so worried that I might not be able to say everything I wanted to the way I wanted to say it. Hmm, maybe it’s just because we were relaxed enough. That it gave us enough time to finally focus and process all that stress.” Said Zipp
Hitch sighed and smiled and gave Zipp a funny look. “What?” asked Zipp, smirking.
“Zipp. If you didn’t say that I never would’ve realized I had the exact same problem. Maybe I just forgot about it. But I felt like all that time being a sheriff and a caretaker for Sparky. I didn’t think I could talk about it. But looks like I didn’t really need to write it down, did I?” Hitch said Chuckling.
Zipp was chuckling too. “I mean you were sleep deprived. I think it’s safe to say that you were doing a lot!”
“Oh yeah! I basically survived on coffee.” said Hitch. And then both Hitch and Zipp were laughing.
Zipp and Hitch were investigating any other damages they might find. Sunny called “Hey did you find anything else?” Asked Sunny. “Yeah we did. You might want to take a look at this.” Said Hitch.
And soon they found a downed powerline that fell down and exploded in the wind. But a stump of it was still in the ground.
Sunny arrived with Alphabittle in tow. And they were shocked. “Well that explains the power problem.” Said Sunny.
“You can get it right?” Asked Hitch. “Well yeah. I can get this log out of the way. But I don’t know about this stump.” Said Alphabittle as he lifted the log out of the way with relative ease.
And then he got to the stump. Try as he might, it would not budge and only a few pieces got chipped off. Soon his phone rang and he was needed elsewhere.
“Welp what do we do?” Asked Hitch. “We could dig under it.” Said Zipp.
“Good idea.” Said Sunny as she called up Izzy. “Hey Izzy. Do you have any shovels?” Asked Sunny.
Soon Izzy arrived with Pipp. And the five friends dug around it. And they got it out. “Great work. Everypony…” Sunny said completely exhausted.
Everypony else was pretty tired as well. And the night was on it’s way. So they headed back to the brighthouse and took a bit of a nap.
After they woke up they decorated the brighthouse with candles. Scattered about.
Izzy was busy unicycling, Sunny & Pipp were working on cleanup plans for tomorrow. At one point Sunny looked outside. And saw that several tents had been set up along the brighthouse hill. She couldn’t have been happier to see that everypony had come together just to help ponies in need.
Hitch and Zipp were able to help all the ponies that needed it. And nopony was injured. Though they were still going to help with the rest of the cleanup tomorrow.
But for now they were in Zipp’s room and decided to take it easy for tonight. They sat on the bed talking about all that had happened that day.
“I’m surprised everypony didn’t take that much beating in that storm. Those winds were horrible.” Said Hitch.
“Well if it wasn’t for us it probably would’ve been worse.” Said Zipp. Remembering how the magic surged through them and the unity crystals.
“So about earlier. I think I should finally just say it. Hitch I would love being your marefriend.” Said Zipp. With sincerity.
Hitch smiled at her. “I’m glad you said that. Because I would be honored to be your coltfriend. Nothing would make me happier.” Said Hitch.
They hugged and kissed each other again.
“This won’t be a problem at the station though right?” Asked Zipp.
“Well the only ponies that will be working there are us. And I don’t really think so, we’re both responsible enough to know that aren’t we?” Said Hitch.
“You know. While we were out there today. It gave me time to think about that. What about you?” Asked Zipp.
“Yeah I have. And I think I have an idea in mind if a problem ever happens.” Said Hitch.
“What is it?” Asked Zipp.
“First of all. We never end the day angry. If we ever have a problem we get it out before the day ends. Got it?” Asked Hitch
“Absolutely.” Said Zipp.
“Second of all. We both listen to each other on assignment. We’re two ponies. But remember what we’re doing here, ok?” Asked Hitch.
“Yes. You know that doesn’t sound like a bad plan at all Hitch. Well done.” Said Zipp.
“Well. I thought it would be. No pony likes being ignored.” Said Hitch.
“Oh yeah ignorence and assumptions are the WORST! And well Hitch. I guess if this is where the day ends. There is one thing I needed to talk about.” Said Zipp.
“Well. I…I’m actually kind of worried about mom finding out about us.” Said Zipp.
“Queen Haven?” Asked Hitch.
“Yeah…” She said as she held Hitch’s hoof.
“Hitch. I know I’m going to love being with you. And everything we do will be fine. But I still can’t help but worry though.
I mean if there’s anything that scares me about starting this. It’s being taken away from it. I didn’t even know what was best for me until I met all of you. Now look at this we saved equestria like three times already. That’s why I trust you Hitch. That’s why I love you. Ever since everything happened, I feel like I couldn’t trust myself for what was best for myself.” Said Zipp.
“Well, what do you think will happen if you told her?” Asked Hitch.
Zipp sighed. And realized that she couldn’t fully grasp what the potential reaction would be. “Well true. I guess I won’t ever really know until I tell her.”
“Exactly. And hey if it helps, I don’t think anypony really knows what’s best for themselves. But I think that’s why we have each other. Zipp I can literally have word to word conversations with animals and I don’t know why or how. But I never would’ve considered it, nor would I have thought how good it would’ve been for me or those critters if I didn’t think about it actually working for me.
I mean once upon a time I thought magic would’ve been a crazy and dangerous idea. Look at everything that happened and tell me ponies knew what it would be.” Said Hitch
“Yeah. I guess I’ll try when I head over.” Said Zipp.
“Head over?” Asked Hitch.
“Yeah. I’ll be headed back to Zephyr Heights in a week. Mom wants to head over here to see how she can help. But she wants me to prove it’s safe to walk in the streets.” Said Zipp.
“So, what are you going to do? Just get some debris and show it to her?” Asked Hitch.
“I guess so. I’m going to tell her about that powerline. I’m hoping a team of pegasi can get the grid back online.” Said Zipp.
“Not a bad idea.” Said Hitch. Pulling Zipp into a hug.
“Yeah. I guess it’s good.” Said Zipp, returning the hug.
The two then laid down and snuggled for a while.
“Are we really doing this? Sleeping in the same bed?” Asked Zipp.
“You want out?” Asked Hitch.
“No. This feels too good. You wanna just do this whenever we have an off day?” Asked Zipp.
“Yeah. That would be amazing.” Said Hitch. As they snuggled into each other. And held their hooves closer together.
For once any concerns the two may have had were gone. Replaced with love. And that’s all they needed.
Love.
“Hey Zipp. Thank you so much for everything.” Whispered Hitch.
“What for?” Asked Zipp.
“For being in my life.” Said Hitch. It was cheesy but it mattered a lot to him.
“You’re welcome.” Said Zipp shedding a tear of joy.
Soon it was hard for them to keep their eyes open. And they dozed off.
-1 week later-
Maretime Bay had been without power for long enough. A new powerline arrived from bridlewood. It was time to raise the new powerline and reconnect the grid.
And Zipp had told her plan to convince Queen Haven to offer a pegasi team to work on just that.
“Welp. You ready sis?” Asked Zipp. “Sure, thing Zipp.” Said Pipp.
“Well, I hope you’ll be back soon.” Said Hitch.
“I’m only going to be gone for like. A day.” Said Zipp chuckling.
“Heh. I know I’m just wishing you good luck.” Said Hitch.
“I love you.” Said Hitch.
“I love you too.” Said Zipp.
They kissed. But just then Pipp looked outside the carriage and said. “Aaaah! You two are going to kill me by feels! I swear!”
Just then Sunny and Izzy stepped outside to see them off. Izzy was wearing a new flight device.
“Oh, wow Izzy. You made a new one.” Said Hitch.
“Oh yeah! And I made it better!” Said Izzy. Bouncing up and down.
“Anyways. See you later Zipp and Pipp!” Said Izzy.
“Good luck! And see ya later!” Said Sunny.
“We’ll be back, but uh Sunny. I wanted to say. Thank you so, so much for helping me out with my crush issues on Hitch. Seriously, you are amazing! And we wouldn’t have been together or saved Maretime Bay without you.” Said Zipp Hugging Sunny tightly.
“Yeah, thank you too! I wouldn’t have gotten through any of that without you Sunny. And now look at us. We stopped a flood with the literal power of love. I cannot thank you enough.” Said Hitch hugging Sunny tightly.
Sunny herself tearing up. And Izzy also joined in the hug as well.
“Aw. You’re welcome.” Said Sunny. Returning the hugs.
“Now I gotta head out. See ya!” Said Zipp stepping into the carriage.
As it took off Izzy turned on the flight device. “I always wanted to do this.” Said Izzy. She took off and followed the carriage through the sky.
“Zipp and Pipp! I’ll never forget youuuuu!” Shouted Izzy. Then she stopped and landed on the ground. “Nailed it.” Said Izzy.
One day after Zipp and Pipp left. Maretime Bay’s repairs were continuing to get better. Things were rough and progress was really slow, without power though. Ponies struggled to continue repairs without power tools and their houses were getting hotter. But thankfully little to anypony’s knowledge good news was coming.
The two flight devices were on Izzy’s workbench Sunny & Hitch looked on as Izzy explained the new upgrades.
“So, you can literally just tell it to fly anywhere in equestria to deliver a package?” Asked Hitch.
“Yep!” Said Izzy.
“Woah! That is huge.” Sunny said with wonder.
“Wait. This sounds too good to be true.” Said Hitch.
“You want a test? Well prepare to be impressed Hitch!” Said Izzy.
She went into the kitchen and attached an empty box to the flight device. “It still has enough power left to bring this box to my old home in bridlewood!” Said Izzy.
The three went outside and fired it up. And it launched into the sky like a rocket. “Thar she blows!” Said Izzy in a mock pirate voice.
But then out of nowhere somepony yelled “OW!” And just then a Pegasus guard fell out of the clouds screaming. “Aaaahhhhhh!”
Sunny’s alicorn instincts kicked in and immediately rushed into the sky to save her. In no time at all she caught her before she could hit the ground. “I got you!” Said Sunny as she moved her safely back to the front of the Crystal Brighthouse. “Owwww my flank hurts.” She said.
“Wait a minute? Windy!? Where have you been? And what were you doing flying up that high?” Asked Sunny with concern.
And just then a royal carriage appeared from the clouds and started descending. “I was escorting Zipp, Pipp and Queen Haven to land.” Said Windy.
“What? Why? Wouldn’t Zoom and Thunder do that?” Asked Sunny.
“Well yeah but they already landed to help with the downed powerline. With four other pegasi. And Queen Haven wanted to make sure no luggage fell out, so Zipp trusted me.” Said Windy.
“Wait. They're already lifting it back!?” Asked Sunny in surprise.
“Yeah. They’re even reconnecting the wires.” Said Windy with a smile.
“Outstanding!” Said Sunny with a smile.
“Where were you during that storm?” Asked Izzy.
“I actually evacuated to Zephyr Heights. And I really wanted to come back to help so I went with them.” She said pointing to the carriage as it landed.
Zipp burst out of the carriage hugging Hitch.
“Hitch I did it!” Said Zipp with absolute joy in her eyes.
“Did what?” Hitch said smiling and hugging back.
“I did everything! It went great! We got a six pegasi team working on the-“Said Zipp when she was cut off.
“I heard uhh Windy told us.” Said Hitch.
“Wait. Windy, how did you land so quickly?” Asked Zipp.
“I didn’t I was-“Windy was cut off as the flight device randomly landed on top of her head.
“Ugh! This thing! It hit me right in the flank! And it really hurt. So, I fell.” Said Windy agitated.
“Woops! Sorry Windy! It's my fault it’s a new experiment!” Said Izzy.
Windy just sighed “it’s fine Izzy just. Be careful.” Said Windy as she gave the device and box back. And looked to Maretime Bay. “Woah… “said Windy in disbelief as she flew into the town.
Pipp and Queen Haven stepped out of the carriage and as soon as Queen Haven saw the damage her jaw completely dropped.
“Oh my…I’m speechless!” Said Queen Haven.
“We told you.” Said Zipp & Pipp at the same time.
“Yes, but you told me it could’ve gotten worse than this! I would’ve done a lot more a lot earlier if I saw it like this.” Said Queen Haven.
“Well, you’re doing something now though mom. That powerline will be a huge help.” Said Pipp.
And just then it happened. The lights inside the Crystal Brighthouse lit up. And the TV came on.
Everypony ran inside and shouted “Hooray!”
Sunny, Izzy and Pipp ran into their rooms. Leaving Hitch, Zipp and Queen Haven alone.
“Hitch. I wanted to say that I told my mom about us. She knows everything.” Said Zipp.
“Really?” Asked Hitch.
“Yes. And it’s ok.” Said Queen Haven with empathy.
“Thank you so much.” Said Hitch.
“I have to admit. It wasn’t hard to notice. Zipp was absolutely star crossed! And it was adorable!” Said Queen Haven laughing.
And Zipp just blushed.
“But in all seriousness. You will take care of my daughter, right?” Queen Haven asked.
“Well of course! But we kinda take care of each other ya know?” Said Hitch.
“Yeah Mom. We’ve got each other’s backs no matter what.” Said Zipp.
Queen Haven just smiled with satisfaction. “Yes, that's my daughter. So, when Zipp told me everything. I wasn’t completely surprised, but it was still unexpected. And fulfilling in a way. You see I never really had the opportunity to find love the way you both did. And so, I wanted the most fulfilling love life for my children. And well, it looks like I did a good job.
But I think you both did an even better one. You both stayed true to your hearts. And well Zipp becoming a detective alongside the sheriff of Maretime Bay sounds great. And I was impressed by the stories you both did in the aftermath of the storm. Helping ponies in need, fixing up, cleaning up.
I’m glad you are together. And well, given to what Zipp has shown me. I have confidence that it will all work out. All I recommend is. Make it last. Always make it last.” Said Queen Haven.
Zipp walked over to Hitch and hugged him, and he hugged her back. And then they hugged Queen Haven. “Thanks so much mom.” Said Zipp. As Queen Haven backed from the hug.
“You’re welcome. Now will you two just kiss already you’re making me wait!” Said Queen Haven.
And then it happened again. Hitch and Zipp kissed each other as tears rolled down their eyes.
Pipp, Sunny & Izzy just arrived at the adorable scene unfolding. And Queen Haven shed a tear too.
When they broke the kiss, they looked into each other's eyes, and both said. “I love you.” At the same time.
“Eeee! Oh wait! I just remembered I wrote a love song for you two!” Shouted Pipp.
“Ooo you made a HitchZipp love song! When did you make it?” Asked Izzy.
“Oh, I made it myself for them a few days ago.” Said Pipp pulling up the recording.
“Well let’s play it! What does it sound like?” Asked Sunny.
“Well. What do you think?” Pipp asked you.

So, things worked out great for the new couple. Now Sheriff and Detective. Or simply as Hitch Trailblazer and Zipp Storm.
As time went on the five friends became even closer. Sunny, Izzy and Pipp all had admiration for the new relationship. And Queen Haven even asked for relationship advice a few times out of curiosity. Much to Zipp and Hitch’s surprise.
They would soon take everypony else’s advice more seriously after that. And it seemed that whatever obstacles that held them back had just gone away. And that in turn would have other ponies take their advice more seriously too.
And they kept their promise. No day ended badly after that. Even if some missions were rougher than others. Some would be to help others in need Maretime Bay. But that didn’t stop any personal missions and relationship goals.
Pipp would keep the new song just for them. She wouldn’t release it publicly until they were ready to reveal their relationship to the rest of equestria.
But that is a whole other story. All we know for now is.
