A Changeling is being put to death from Canterlot imprisonment, and shares his thoughts and feelings mere hours before he is killed by a unicorn executioner.

My first real attempt at a short, sad story, so apologies if it isn't all that good.

Shimmering Steam's parents were not born at home. Neither were their parents.
Centuries and countless generations ago her village's true homeland was deserted, and she is determined to find out why.

Changelings are evil creatures, right? They ruin other people's lives to consume their emotions as they live and reduce them to nothing, then return to their evil Queen only to do it again.

But... Do all of them do that? Is it fair to judge them all?

In this story we follow a Changeling who is hell-bent on Twilight Sparkle's decimation... for a while.

Trixie makes an effort to give up her life of selfish boasting and takes modesty lessons from Applejack to better herself and gain (real) respect from other ponies.
