Arctic Inferno

I am nothing special, just a proud Brony and eager writer, so please don't hate me too much if my work is terrible.

T

Changelings are evil creatures, right? They ruin other people's lives to consume their emotions as they live and reduce them to nothing, then return to their evil Queen only to do it again.

But... Do all of them do that? Is it fair to judge them all?

In this story we follow a Changeling who is hell-bent on Twilight Sparkle's decimation... for a while.

Criticism requested, I'd like to know if I can improve!

Not a bad beginning my friend. I love how you play Chrysalis as not only ruth-less but also a little bat shit insane. Talking to the skull of a dead lover thing reminded me of the governer from the walking dead. Anyway, you did a great job, and I can't help but feel sorry for that changling who got punished.
Oh, crazy thought! The changling in charge of the Twi-mission should also feel upset about that, like it was his brother or cousin something. And over the coarse of some chapters, starts to question Chrysalis as Twilight and the others start to befriend him.
Just food for thought....

Again, liking the story so far. This is so going into my read later folder, so I can keep an eye on your progress. By the way, I just want to throw this out there, but I've been thinking of doing a changling story for awhile now. And after reading some great, and not so great stories, I think i'll try my hand at it for abit. It'll be a nice break from my main story I'm doing right now, which you should TOTALLY check it out when you get a chance.
Anyway, thanks for the story, and for helping in sparking my interest in branching out with other story ideas. Catch ya later!

5092366 Thank you for your comments and general attention you've been giving my story!

Comment #1: Although I've never seen The Walking Dead (please don't kill me) I can imagine how the character you mentioned can be. Your idea is actually real good and I intend to steal it as soon as I get the opportunity to write a new chapter (I've been pretty busy lately) but I may not. There's a number of reasons why, specifically how Changelings are "born", which I will highlight in another chapter- perhaps a flashback during the main story or something. The general gist of it is, though, is that all Changelings are brothers and sisters.

Comment #2: I will definitely take a look at both when I get the opportunity!

Very good so far, looking forward

Hm, I wonder what this tyrant will machinate. I wonder if she'll succeed.

Wonder into the pitch-black night;
so pained and so lost,
the joy of such darkness away,
which name rings true to your ears this night?
Perhaps,
as you retain your love for the wicked,
perhaps will you comprehend something so sentimental,
so meaningless,
something so needless as friendship.

We shall read on.

He's so adorable being clueless and under-prepared.:rainbowkiss:
Though, I must wonder what Twilight thinks of this. She seems rather trusting of somepony who can't provide their name swiftly.:duck:

Turning away ever so slowly,
you wander so lost,
further still,
into a nothingness far from what you've learned,
far from what you know.
Is it so,
that even as soon as this,
of this hour so bleak and bitter,
your light grow brighter this cold night?

We shall read on.

That careless attitude towards her subjects...

She has promptly made herself target for a karmic death. I don't think she understands the significance of this.
May friendship prevail upon her flesh.

An illusion of darkness,
bitter and tender only to the wickedness.
You lose to your ghastliness, beastliness,
and the darkness you sought will become unbearable,
pain shall be in your veins,
curse be your flesh,
and dreams of efficiency shall turn to nightmare.
Fall into a dreamless sleep,
and become nothing.

Let there be a light,
guiding those who are not fully lost in the blackness,
striving to dispel,
unto your sweetest nightmare,
to remain blissful through this night.

Awaiting further releases.:fluttershysad:
I feel invigorated and hateful~

5269645 Well, you saw how she responded to Fluttershy being so timid, didn't you? :rainbowhuh: I kinda thought that would be logical enough to assume.

That heart scene remind me of Indiana Jones

5270478 It wasn't a reference, but I definitely see what you mean! :twilightoops:

5270428
I would have thought she'd be able to tell the difference between fumbling for an answer and being reluctant to speak it. It might just be me, but I like to think Twilight has some knowledge of the matter on behaviour.:twilightsheepish:

5272890 You're probably right, but surely after returning home victorious from a fight there must have been some psychological effect left over that made her feel so much safer now that she was back home? It's commonly observed in war veterans, and only seems to be negated by serious things like PTSD. :applejackunsure:

5272894
I would imagine Twilight is a bit too much of a paranoid obsessive compulsive intellectual to feel safe after an invasion starting with the abduction of her best older friend. I don't think she is war-hardened either, despite her apparent combat training. If she wasn't extremely happy, she might instead have become stressed and distrustful in the scenario there are changelings roaming about. Still, they are both possibilities.

5273026 Naturally, but... You know Fighting is Magic? I don't believe it's an impossibility that Twilight has read some books on combat, judging by how skilled she seemed to be with hadouken spells and such in the Season 4 Finale.

5273206
She did study how to release magic, at least, though the magic's potency may just be a side effect of harbouring the power of three of Equestria's princesses. Twilight already knew how to fire.:yay:

5273302 That makes a lot of sense, but surely to control and manage such potent magic in the form of combat spells would require knowledge and perhaps even experience?

5273356
Twilight's special talent is magic. She knows the formula and the structure of very many spells, which helps her understand new ones just as well. It is very likely she's capable of casting a spell only by seeing it cast, which ability could be the reason for why she eventually obtains control. That said, it is possible freeing mana in the form of "released" mana is a basic spell some —though not all— unicorns are able to cast with little difficulty.

5273421 I'm personally under the opinion that mana and magic are two different things- linked, but not by any means the same- but you have valid points.
But where would she have see those types of spells cast? She certainly didn't adopt the other princesses' memories.

5273430
I think I'll name both instances in my previous comment 'mana'. Yes, I agree that the two are not entirely the same. The mana would be the drive and fuel form which magic is used and by which it happens.
It's possible those spells were just powered up versions of ones she already knew. I don't think there should be unique spells for magic tactical lasers that differ from the low output ones she used during the Canterlot Wedding:derpyderp2:

5269544 She shall not. Because as it seems all writers prefer the hero winning.

5564516
A villain can still win in stories that do not end in tragedy. :duck:
