Seven stories, all connected by geography, time, and theme. A storm is coming out of the Everfree, and it sets the stage for seven ponies to think. Or not to think, as they choose. To learn or to run. Or just to be quiet and to know.

2284954 I live life on the edge. You know me, being dangerous and scary

2284954
People actually do that?

Anyway, looks interesting, let's give it a read...

Slogging is of daylight - the true beauty of day is of the night, as is shown in this.

Marvelous stuff, truly.

2284981 I'm glad you like it!

:trixieshiftleft:
Really?

Anyways, lots of fun with this one! Is that foreshadowing I see?
...
I'm going to go with a big "yes" on that one.
So. Many. References.

This was a great read, Cynewulf. It was different from your usual style, which was a pleasant surprise. May I ask who this "Scrivener" fellow is? This is the first I've heard of him. I'm vaguely familiar with Poets Corner, but Scrivener is new to me. And what was up with Poets' Dream? Is he the author of Outremer, or is he just having visions of Jannah? Also, and I know I ask this often, does this story take place in the Songverse?

2285750 All of my stories that exist on this account

Except For Twilight Likes Weird Things/Flutterbra ship in Hell

Are all sort of swirling around a central point. D'Jalin always goes to Jannah. In Songverse he comes with others and sets up his little basecamp. In Mad Gods (which is super close but not quite canon) he goes alone as a mad and defeated refugee. In Night? Well.

There are others worlds and cities than Jannah! (One in particular was a catalyst to Jannah's fall) and perhaps this in a universe where it is Empyrea and not Jannah that exists? I don't know. I think so! So he is dreaming of a real place, but he's also writing a story. It's awful similar to Outremer.

2285799 Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. But back to one of my original questions: Poets Corner is writing about Jannah, but the events of Outremer actually happened, correct?

2285829 Yes!

In the Songverse, where Rainbow Dash is... well. (She seems fine here) Rarity does go to the very real city of Jannah! In this world just alongside it, Jannah exists in the dreams of a writerpony who owns a bookstore

If this story is lonely, thought I might comment more than once.
I've only ever read the first two paragraphs. Man, it's intriguing. Truthfully, I didn't really look at this story because the description didn't catch me (but my 'read it later' list likes it enough :twilightblush:)
For the record, I had this open before promises of "rewards". Lol.

2286622 An' look at you

They are fun rewards. Let me go PM you

You really should read though. It's not my best. It's rough. But it's one of my favorites.

2286628
No, see, I am. Here's comment #2.
Introspection. So much thoughtfulness. I wrote a story based entirely on thoughts and feelings once. They're the most interesting. I like the dotted bits of almost-humour about passing the time and rituals.
Still intrigued.

2286628
#3,
I liked Twilight's bit better than Fluttershy's. It flowed better. (It's not just because I like Twilight better).
But the part about Fluttershy loving to fly. Too many writers give the opposite opinion (and mostly with not enough good reasoning). I love the way you phrased it, too.

2286663 That's because Fluttershy's is weaker, really. The pathos is less and such

She seems like she doesn't mind flying

2286663 oh and sail carefully there at the... fourth vignette?

2286628
Rarity.
Dresses being born and failing at not adorning it with jewels. So much fun. Though it's meant to be vague, I think Rarity's thoughts of high society connections are somewhat too vague. Perhaps because, with the others you are vague about situations we understand. Rarity, we have nothing to base it on.
Oh, wait.

She lets the ideal chance go.

We were all thinking it, I'm sure. :scootangel:
But I loved the little flashback scene. That was the opposite of vague, though. Hmm...

2286695 Oh but you see

It's not those connections that she's worried about

She's thinking about how rings are metal and how it catches the lightning. One day. Maybe. She can dream, and make her veils and dresses.

Drat, I meant it to be easier to get what she's really doing

She retires later, and rises later, coffee in hoof to greet the noon as if it were morning, hissing at the sun. It is part of the game they play.

I don't think there are any words for the awesome.
I play that game. Not with coffee, though. Coffee is gross.

Poets's part is intriguing (is there meant to be a break where it is? It's distracting and probably would be better just before he starts thinking about his dream.)
And oh! His dream! I know that place!

The sweetness of him is so awesome. I love to get such a sense of a character I've never met in such a short space.

2286703
Oh? Have to read it again, then. Or maybe wait until I'm finished? I'm trying very hard not to be distracted, but there's dinner and my stomach is all growly ... distracted it is... :flutterrage:

2286716 YAY I'm glad you liked that

Nah, just finish and I'll tell ya. :3

Caramel ... hmm... When I started, I was struck how great it is that we see how the storm affects more than just the mane 6. Macintosh and Caramel just made me ... uncomfortable, somehow. I didn't get any warm fuzzies from it. And isn't it late? Where did Macintosh come from. I actually think that's why I was uncomfortable, I didn't understand the context at all.

2286804 I told you to sail careful

Caramac is actually a mildly popular ship

Also sorry!

2286810
I'm not a ship-meanie! Don't call me that! Lol. I don't read it, is all. And even if I did, got no context for it in your fic. I get the Rainbow/Rarity thing because ... this is your story, haha.

Anyways, AJ. Sweet family thoughts. Sweet family prying. :ajsleepy:
But the CMC are at her place. Isn't Sweetie meant to be

at her parent's.

(which is spelt wrong, btw. Parents's :derpytongue2:)

Scrivener reminds me of a name from Harry Potter. It's silly, but that's all I can think.

In case it's not obvious with my comments, I'm not very deep. I never did enjoy poetry much (a good friend of mine is constantly offering hers and I say "Okay, just as long as you know I won't "get" it.) I love a good poetic flow, but I never was one for undertones and deep meanings. You can tell me the Rarity thing that went over my head now... :fluttershyouch:

2286852 We are all capable of depth, LHTwi :)

Rainbow won't settle down. Rarity's designing their wedding dresses... which she wonders if she'll ever get to wear. Rainbow out in the storm makes her nervous and unable to sleep, so she ends up fiddling with ideas... and well. Sad.

! Thanks for catching that.

I'm actually quite pleased that you read it and kept a running commentary. Mighty kind of you. And fun. :3

2286862
Ah.
I got the anxious (is your Rarity ever not worried for RD's safety? Lol.)
But the wedding dress thing. Hmm...

2286867 It was originally more obvious. I might go back and alter that scene.

Also, your sneak peek reward is in your inbox.

A Lady Worries with Feeling

Interesting to say the least. I have to say the depth of character conveyed with internal narration was amazing. You even made me interested in the OC couple (or perhaps background, I admit I do not know them all). The Caramac scene was adorable btw :rainbowkiss: I want to dig more into this Raridash series you have going, but I'll admit to a bias on my Rarity ships (Would it surprise you to learn I tend to favor Flarity and Raripie?) Raridash is one I am easing into, but not one I just ship as a matter of course.

This is odd, yes, but only in the context of "odd for anyone but Cynewulf". It's fascinatingly odd, which is a good thing.

2285042 would you send your child to school without breakfast? You shouldn't send your fic into the world without a good start either! :ajsmug:

Finally got a chance to read this. Finally, the CaraMac ship comes to port! I'm almost disappointed it wasn't just 4000 words of that. You do Caramel well, and Mac too. The cuteness of them together was nice, and I actually enjoyed AJ's insincere disgust. As though thinking "No, I don't like to think about it, but I'd want my brother to be happy with whatever pony makes him happy, regardless of gender."

That's the way I'd imagine her reacting. She's not wildly in love with the idea, but she by no means hates it. I'd love to hear her explain why Caramel is Mac's 'special' friend, and the other stallions Mac knows are just friends. Gah, that's be adorable.

Overall, prose prosed and d'awws d'awwed. Lovely as always!

2286984 Raridash is kinna my OTP, but I can see/enjoy any ship. I am quite alright with Flarity! Raripie is growing on me. I don't understand it, but it amuses me and Donny's Boy slowly wins me over.

2287466 I'm an odd fellow.

2287535 *dances* Yay Caramac shipfeels! I'm not practicing writing Big Mac to write a 250K epic RainbowMac ship adventure dark LOTR fic

2287729 I am growing to appreciate Raridash thanks to you, Razed and my good friend Dianwei32. It has a very unique feel to it. Rarity reacts so much differently to Dash than Fluttershy or Pinkie. Raripie and Flarity seem to work because of common ground, but Raridash works because of the differences.

2287756 It can be all things from incredibly rocky to incredibly adorable. Razed plays it more stable than I do, but we both enjoys us some flustered fashionistas

2287764 Oh I know! She is so much fun to write for when she is going quietly mad :raritycry:

2287729 >Implying the Dark Lord Macintosh, his bride, and the raging hordes they command can be denied.

He awaits your telling of his tale behind the Black Gate of Maredor.

2287789

Rarity stood before the Gates of Maredor. Behind her the last of the great Host of the West, all those who had survived and would be free from the iron hoof of Macingoth. The gates opened, and the Drak Lord himself came forth. She took a deep breath. Yes, she would do this. Someone had to take him down and win Rainbow back over to the cause of the fooling of fillies. Specifically her. Especially her. The raging barbaric earth pony hordes clamored behind him. But she stood firm with the Mares of the West

Great heart, after all, will not be denied.

2287803

Macingoth

Fucking yes.

But where's the part where AppleBloom throws his Yoke of Power into Mt Doom?

2287841

"I cant carry it, Mr. Bloom-o," ScootaSam paused. "Or. Well, anything, not when I fly. Or fly. I mean partially because of the fact I can't fly, but even if I could it is rather cumbersome and also filled with gross stallion germs and/or the power of darkness. But! I CAN CARRY YOU. Not flying, obviously."

2287849 I'm not kidding when I tell you that Mac and Dash (and Rarity, apparently) foalsitting the CMC's and them playing LOTR while it pours down rain or something might be the greatest idea I've ever heard involving the ponyfication of things. Seriously, it may be everything I love in one fic. The possibilities are so exciting to even just think about.

Very nice. I loved the writing style. So moving, so clever... what's not to love? Loved the bits with Twilight, Fluttershy, and Rarity. Very touching.

And because of all the LoTR pony quotes in the comments:

Daughters of Marenas Tirith! Of Maredoras! My sisters, my darlings. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. I mean, really, darlings, with what we are about to face, who wouldn't be terrified? Regardless, a day may come when the courage of Mares fail, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of harmony, but it is not this day. Nay, darlings, it will be an hour of timberwolves and shattered shields when the Age of Mares comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we tear them to pieces! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Mares of the West!

And Twigolas Sparkle, I swear, if you steal the first kill from me, I'll destroy you.

2296942 Why yes, yes you do.

I like that Twilight, the somber scientist, ruminates on the Fibonacci series to distract herself.

2588949 I really enjoyed adding that little part in.

I came for the possible Queen song.
I stayed for the story.

2744610 Queen song? huh.

And glad to hear it!

I always liked these kinds of stories, where you have some mundane event and it switches POV on you throughout.

I liked AJs section best, for whatever reason.

This was interesting. I liked most of them, especially Twilight's, although I don't understand where Spike is, why her bed feels too big, and why she's so worried. I still really liked it. And Fluttershy's. They were probably both my favorites. I liked Caramels up until the time that Mac showed. With Rarity, while I read it the way you intended, I feel like it still had some ambiguity to it. Mac and Caramel had someone to talk to. They were the only ponies not alone. I just felt like it doesn't really mesh with everything else nearly as well. Still, I liked this. It's wonderful for being emotive.

His wife is asleep in the bed with dark blue sheets. Poets Corner, who owns the happy little bookstore on the, well, corner sips at his hot tea and smiles. It is an extraordinary event, that he has managed to stay up later than Star Singer. She retires later, and rises later, coffee in hoof to greet the noon as if it were morning, hissing at the sun. It is part of the game they play.

Didn't expect to see him here.

Caught in the rain, Scrivener had took refuge under a little awning in front of the window at Sugarcube Corner. Friendly place, lovely ponies. It seemed fitting that it should shield him from the rain.

This name seems familiar, but from a story that wasn't by you.

Hmm.
