I don't quite get what happened at the end.... but nice fic!
It's called subtlety, Mr. Gatekeeper. Surely you had to take a course before being given such an important position as Limbo Administrator?
Sheesh, you really don't think much of Spike, do you? Grappling an injured pony and sitting on the floor sobbing? Is this the five-year-old Spike from "Spike at Your Service?" Being Twilight's closest friend, it didn't make sense that he didn't arrive at the hospital at the same time as the rest of their friends. And considering Twilight hatched him during a monumentally important event in her life, is the closest thing he has to a family, and has shown her constant effort and devotion his whole life, you'd think Spike would have been the Gatekeeper rather than Shining Armor. It would've been less regal, but it would've made more sense.
The way I picture Twilight's answer to the Gate Keeper.
"This golden city may look perfect, but it can't give me everything I desire, because there's one thing it can't give me, My friends. you may think going back would be heart breaking, but this city would only give me a daily reminder to the pain of having left my friends. The way I see it, staying here is the tragic fate, because my friends are all I'll ever need."
Um... why, in a world full of peace and love, is the default setting for every pony, even the good ones, eternal suffering? Really? Like, you could be a perfect pony, be kind, generous, loving, but that's not good enough?
See, stupid reasoning like this is why I left the church.

My guess is that Twilight killed/defeated the gatekeeper, who is something akin to Nightmare, an evil parasite thing that loves tricking ponies into unending torment.

Although....I'm curious what the decisions were.
The gatekeeper said that Twilight could either live in the golden city forever or she would be mortal again and I'm guessing when she dies for real, she will die every day behind the other gate? A little confused by the second option.
Although I'm pretty sure since she is an Alicorn she won't die again ever so...a little confused about that to.
Oh yeah also my one quastion that was brought up to me inside my head since I started reading this story was, where was Luna and Celestia? Kinda thought they would be by Twilight's side in this.
