Applejack is not a fancy pony, but sometimes a single image does what a thousand words never could. After an accident that lands her in the hospital, Applejack is inspired to bring out her inner self. With a tattoo.

“Hey sis, you think I could be a tattoo artist? I bet that's my special talent! I can't wait to tell Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle!”

OH DEAR HEAVEN ABOVE, GOD SAVE US, WE'RE ALL DOOMED :raritydespair:

(Kidding aside, this really was a fabulous story and I can very easily see it getting featured! Fantastic job!)

Hehe, thanks

The hospital scene seemed bit forced, but its great story overall.

Excellent story. need more stories about ink around here. Of course, this just serves to remind me that I want another one. damnit. :ajbemused:

Thumbs up!

2089805

Glad to hear it.

Yeah, haven't really seen a lot of tattoos in pony fiction, but maybe that's just because I haven't read enough of it :twilightsheepish:

I really like this story but I don't know how I feel about tattooing around the cutie mark. I feel like the cutie mark is such an essential part of a pony's identity that it's almost sacred, and embellishing it with a tattoo is somehow wrong. I kind of expected her to scale back some after going all out with the temporary. And oh god, I hope the rest of the ponies will be able to stop Rainbow Dash before she decides to cover her body in rainbows, lightning bolts and racing stripes.

Anyways, I really liked the characterization and dialogue, especially between Applejack and Rarity. Definitely earned my thumb up. Keep up the good work.

It is potentially an interesting topic for a story. I hope I managed to make something of it myself  As for tattoos, I feel it depends a lot. Some are nice and fit the person, whether big or small, others just don't

2090475

Thanks. I see what you mean about the cutie mark, and I imagine that's exactly why Rarity left one side unchanged, to keep the cutie mark in its natural form on at least one flank.

2089780

You called it, it's in the featured box!

There should be a picture of the tattoo. It seems really cool! :ajsmug:

2090607

The Popular Stories list, at least. Not yet the top 10 featured box

2090668

Thanks. I fear I might not be much better at designing than AJ :twilightblush: But I'd love to see someone's take on it

Well, that's an eye-opener. I'd never really thought about tattoos in Equestria until now! :rainbowhuh:
Certainly well told, sir!

2090694
Noooooooo... It's definitely in the featured box. Take a look!

2090699

Thanks  It's certainly interesting to think what tattoos would be like for ponies, what with the fur and such

2090704

Not the box on the front page that I'm looking at, the one that only has the top 10 stories (as opposed to top 40 or so)

2090607 :rainbowkiss: Y'all can call me "The Future-Seeing Princess Rarity" now.

2090724
Nah, I'll just call you Rares. :raritywink:

2090694

Yeah, it's in the featured box! Refresh the page or something!

2090724

You should change your username to that.

2090760

Well, that's very curious, because it is most definitely not showing up in mine

2090780

Do you have the mature filter off? (So that you can see mature fics?) Mine's on, so that might be it.

This was a well-executed original idea. Loved it.

2090788

Ah, mystery solved :twilightsheepish: Well, what do you know, apparently adults stories have a huge effect on that list, because with the filter off this story is nowhere near popular enough to be up there

2090791

Thanks

2090807

I only turned on the mature filter because I was bored of clop and clop alone in the featured box. There's a time and place for that kind of story, and it's not every day. :rainbowlaugh: And yeah, mature stories just seem to spike in views just because they're mature.

2090823

Apparently most people have the filter off, then, because the real massive attention doesn't seem to come until you make it into the mature featured box. Not sure what, if anything, one can make of that revelation :)

2090860

NEWS FLASH: BRONIES LIKE CLOP :trollestia:

2090922

I want to write a clop story just to see if it'd reach the featured box, but I don't have that variety of talents. :rainbowwild:

2090938

Yeah, it's tempting, isn't it? :twilightblush: Only, I feel if I were to actually write anything of that nature I'd want to actually try to make it worth reading, and that's not exactly easy

2090993

That's why you make it a parody! Like Floambra/Sombrero! Totally not the one I'm working on

2091025

Conqueror of the Gak Ponies! :trollestia:

2091050

Don't worry, I made him up for the story. Needed to give Sombrero a companion while Sombra was being blown up.

This was quite good. :ajsmug:

You know, I started considering getting a tattoo after Luna's story in Appletheosis, and I think this just sealed the deal. Do tattoo artists do custom designs? I don't know, the only time I've even seen a tattoo needle up close was in some head shop when I was like 10. This may be my worst idea ever. Wish me luck.

2093172

Thank you

2093463

It's something to think about carefully, at least. I imagine the artist will help you pick or make a good design, but I don't actually know how such things work

Tats break Bro Code, I'm afraid, and while I'm less than an avid follower, it's truthful in that regard.

That was quite darn good! Kudos

intresting idea loved it

I hope a reputation does not precede me. The premise of the story sounded fascinating, I decided to dedicate my newest reading to your story. I was not disappointed. I indulge in it, especially with Rarity's voice.

A disclaimer (but different from usual): I throw in praise and expulsions of enjoyment. A rarity comes, as the very prospect of nitpicky comments are nearly unseen.

That was a lot of fun to listen to, and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the story. Thank you

I can see what you mean about the ending. There could certainly have been room for something more there, but I'm glad it didn't detract too much from the story

2097079

Thank you

DF

This was lovely. Not a heavy piece of writing, with lots of soul-searching, hard decisions and drama, just a nice bit of low-key, slice of life goodness.

A nearly full body tattoo? Wow AJ went all out...

I have quite a few of your many stories on my read later list. I'm not sure why I chose this one first. Maybe because I'm a sucker for a good Rarity. And yours here is fabulous. This part in particular caught my eye: "Rarity looked a bit lost as the drama around her deflated." I love when she does that. I love it even more when fanfic writers remember to have her be nice and helpful as well, not just a drama queen, like you did when she went and found the magazines for Applejack, and later on did the whole design for her too.

I was hoping that the tattoo itself would turn out to be something less apple-centric (something involving roots, possibly ropes, is what I was envisioning), just because so often, in the show and in the fandom, Applejack is all apples, all the time. That being said, your design was still neat, and since Rarity did it, I'm sure it looks wonderful. :raritywink:

Tattoos being an ancient earth pony tradition is some fantastic world-building, and a bit I hadn't come across before. Did you get that idea from elsewhere, or is it all you?

3043302
Rarity is such a delight to write :raritywink: I'm glad you liked the story.

I aimed for a balance with the design of the tattoo, so that it wasn't all apples but also branches, flowers, and there are some ropes mentioned too. I definitely agree that AJ needs to be more than just apples.

As for it being an earth pony art, it just seemed like a great and natural idea, so that's all me. I have no idea if anyone else has done it before, but I haven't really seen anything done about ponies and tattoos in the first place.

3044813
Awesome! Since you're the place I first came across the idea, would you mind if I included the bit about earthy pony tattoos in Night Errantry? I'll give this story credit in a blog post or author's note if so. It would fit perfectly into a plot point I have coming up soon.
