    Rise gets 5th place!

The results for the EqD contest are in! Rise came 5th out of 109! Not bad, not bad at all!

That means I am a winner and as I am in the top ten, I get some art too! Yay! What art that will be, who knows! I'm very happy about the placing though!

Go read it if you've not yet! http://www.fimfiction.net/story/210454/rise

    BUCK 2014 Fanfiction Panel

    Hi guys and gals!

BUCK is coming up this Saturday, and is very exciting (if you are going, that is!). Even more exciting than that is that there will be a FANFICTION PANEL starring all your favourite people (and me).

If you are going to BUCK, please come along and say hi! It will be at 11am on the Saturday morning, more details here: http://buckcon.org/events/word-crimes

Joining me, will be Knighty, Scribbler, Arcanium, Greatodyer and Metaphor

(You may remember that Scribbler did some amazing readings of some of my stories, and Arc decided Scootaloo sounded like a pirate for our Fimfic charity livestream. I certainly haven't forgotten!)

Come on, how amazing does that sound! If you're at the con and don't go, your life will be full of tears!

(No idea if the panel will be filmed and put online, I don't think so, unless anyone is planning on going along with a camera!)

    'Rise' has, uh, risen

I am a machine! A pony machine! It turns out that after a few weeks of scraping out a few hundred words on another story, the threat of a deadline on this one got me there with time to spare!

Yup, 'Rise' is now complete, and actually within the word limit. The response has been amazing, and so I really hope it doesn't disappoint. Some of you might be upset it is a self-contained story (though it was always going to be, and the ending was the first thing I thought up). I may return to this idea though, and I have no problem with anyone else wanting to riff off it!

    http://www.fimfiction.net/story/210454/rise

I ended up above a thousand words above the word limit. Fimfic's word count isn't as accurate as gdocs, but it was still a bit much. I ended up removing some minor bits, but also the firefly section. I will leave it below, and might drop it back in after the contest has finished! So uh, sorry if you liked that bit!

Something caught her eye. A flicker of light above the enormous entranceway to the castle. It was fire in a jar.

No. Misty narrowed her eyes, looking closer. She started to storm toward the entrance, a new sense of determination rising. It wasn’t fire. With a leap she rose into the air, ignoring the screaming of her sore wings as they took her closer and closer to the jar.

It was sitting on a ledge above the door, sending gentle light all around. It wasn’t fire though. She pressed her face against the smooth glass, watching the trapped fireflies within, circling their tiny prison.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of there!” she whispered urgently, looking this way and that in case a pony should see what she was up to. When she was certain the coast was clear, she hefted herself onto the top of the jar, which seemed to be made out of metal. Despite the obvious join, she could see no gaps in the top. She tried using her sword to pry it apart, but nothing would budge.

“Damn pony magic!” she cursed, sinking down beside the jar in defeat. She watched her pained reflection, illuminated by the streaks of light from within. An idea formed in her mind; she slowly stood up and hefted her front limbs against the jar. “Okay, little buddies! Hold tight!”

Straining against the glass, she hefted as hard as she could. It began to scrape against the ledge and then started to violently shudder and topple. Misty fell forwards as the jar launched itself onto the ground, barely managing to not fall herself. Below her, it exploded into a thousand shards of crystal that lit up as the fireflies danced free, soaring into the black of the night and vanishing amongst the stars.

Misty smiled. She had done it. She had struck a blow against the ponies the like of which had never been seen before. It wasn’t enough though. Winter was still coming. But there was something the ponies didn’t know. Misty was coming for them.

    Now to finish Seapony story!

    EqD Prompt Competition Madness

Okay guys, I have put everything on hold in a frenzied attempt to actually write a story for the EqD Outside Insight Summer Fanfic Contest. I have posted up what I've done in order to shame myself into finishing it. Another 5k by tomorrow... it's doable!

Actually, my worry is that it will be too long, as the limit is 15k. But then I guess you all still get a bonus story, so everyone wins!

Let me know what you think!

    Rise

It is about Breezies, but EVEN SO give it a go!

    Video Review: Twilight's Best Friend

I just got messaged by Emeraldcomet who showed me a video review he did of my story Twilight's Best Friend. I always like to see what other people made of my stories (and if you do something like this, please let me know!)

It's an old story (early 2011 I believe) but still one of my favourites, if a little rough around the edges in retrospect! Anyway, check out the review here:

Deep in the Royal Library is a book. A terrible book that is said to send whoever reads it mad. A book so dangerous that it has to be hidden away and secured with chains to prevent it from ever being opened.

A book which has just been accidently checked out by Spike on behalf of Twilight Sparkle.

The Star In Yellow is rising once more, and only Rainbow Dash and Spike can save Twilight before it's too late. Ideas live forever. Ponies do not.

This fic is loosely inspired by the 19th century story 'The King In Yellow'.

Oh yes, I've been convinced into trying out Fimfic and it is indeed quite snazzy!

Chapter 3 is coming along nicely and will be up very soon (he says!). I'm 8000 words into it, and though I could cut it into 3k chunks for some cheap updates on EqD I'm determined to keep it as one chapter, since this is supposed to be a three-act story, even though the last chapter may end up being longer than the rest put together! :twilightoops:

"a huge creature with the body of a snake but the head and wings of a dragon"

Um.  That would be a dragon, wouldn't it?  A dragon is a huge snake with wings.

#11 · 151w, 5d ago · 2 · · Chapter 2 ·

>>99326

Snakes don't have limbs though. I guess you could say it was a chinese dragon, but they tend to have little limbs too I think, or no wings.

Oh Dear, Twilight and Sinister books. This tale looks promising

They do have tiny limbs.

Nice! I'm tracking.

GASP! one of my favorite stories! I remember checking your DA page to see if there was an update a few times, loved it then and i love it now!

#17 · 151w, 4d ago · · · Chapter 2 ·

Oh god, twilight what have you done!?!?? End of equestria as we know it. This story needs more flutter shy.  And you said ch 3 had 8000 words? That's crazy! Biggest one I've read was 4000

#18 · 151w, 4d ago · · · Chapter 2 ·

HAIL LORD HAS.... I MEAN HAIL LADY YELLOW STAR

But take the blue pill, rarity, and see just how far the rabbit hole goes.

moar.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand about 3 minutes after i read the last chapter this pops up.

Dreams DO come true!   :pinkiehappy:

>>103383

Thanks!

The reason for that is that I had to cut chapter 3 in half, because if I'd have uploaded 15000 words as one chunk i'd have been strung up! :)

Nice reveal at the end. I feel I should have seen it coming, but fair's fair. I didn't.

Loved it! All of it! And I agree with what Baree said.

#24 · 151w, 2d ago · · · Chapter 1 ·

based upon what i've read so far, there is enough foreshadowing to hint at the idea that maybe Yellow Star is Celestia...  At least, thats my assumption.  Imma laugh if im right

pip is forever alone.

it was so sad....YET SO GOOD

Yay happy ending! I always get nervous reading grim or dark and generally Avoid sad fics all together but I'm glad everything turned out good in the end. Great work I really enjoyed it :pinkiehappy:

“I’m the mailmare Rainbow Dash, not you! Try doing your own job for once, you... you...

..DOUBLE NIGGER..'

Excellent ending I had a feeling it was Celly's book. Loved it.

Aw man, I really thought that this was leading up to a confrontation between Yellowstar and Dainbow Rash.

#31 · 151w, 1d ago · · · Chapter 2 ·

As I'm reading the last bit of Chapter 2, "For the Reunion" from the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children soundtrack starts playing.  A more appropriate musical accompaniment could not have existed, that was creepy and terrifying.

and then there was manly tears

This is supposed to be a seriously stressful situation in a surreal story

Yet this chapter was hilarious :pinkiecrazy:

Wow, this was something else :rainbowhuh:

Good show, jolly good show

#35 · 150w, 5d ago · · · Chapter 2 ·

"Of course Twilight Sparkle my most faithful friend. I always save the day."

And then Yellowstar was Jesus.

The metalogics of it all is pretty interesting, modulated by how simple their manner of speaking is.

good prize.

Ezn

Loved this. It was dark, but still kept so much of the show's atmosphere. It was well-written, you spelt colour with a "u", it had some scary moments and I read it all in one sitting. Faved.

Also, gonna check out The King In Yellow

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8492

This is the one time I'll ever be full of anticipation and laughing my head off at the same time! :rainbowlaugh:

>>126004

Hurrah!

Yes it's important to spell words correctly! For Queen and country, pip pip!

The actual book 'The King In Yellow' is very strange but also very good. Don't go in expecting a detailed plot though, it's more about atmosphere than anything else.

#40 · 149w, 2d ago · · · Chapter 1 ·

So this is probably the best-written fan fic I've read in years.

The humor in this story has been top notch throughout.  It all feels like humor that would be in the actual show, and I laughed out loud once at one of the jokes.

Amazing.  It was like an episode of the show.  5/5

Awesome story, But as I was reading I was wandering, What if Celestia Wrote a clopfic?

:P

>>193556

That's the racy continental adaption!

#45 · 143w, 5d ago · · · Chapter 1 ·

Damnit to hell Blueshift; every time I open one of your stories I find myself unable to stop until it's over. So now, not only am I reading fan fiction at 2 in the morning, but I'm also really creeped out and probably won't be able to sleep even once I'm done. :trixieshiftleft: Why are you so awesome?!

>>193556

That was the ending Twilight never got to read. :trollestia:

But as for the story, I... I think it surpassed Fallout:Equestria. And I LOVE Fallout:Equestria. I mean... and the reveal... and that means Silver Crescent was... oh man I have to go distract myself from all this awesome.

>>257345

Thanks, it is comments like these that make me grin ear to ear and inspire me to keep writing! I do think this is easily my best story so far, it's just a shame that it hasn't got the same sort of buzz from the fandom as some of my other, shorter, sillier ones. Tell your family and friends! (Well, maybe not your family. "Mum, mum, you have to read this My Little Pony fanfiction!")

I stayed up until half six in the morning reading this and it's totally worth the lack of sleep. This is a very well-written story, the characters were "realistic" and, even though it's tagged as Dark, it made me laugh. A lot. The ending was bittersweet; kinda sad that Yellowstar, who wanted to make everyone happy, only got the chance to do one act of kindness (saving Twilight) before Twilight accidentally killed her (although it sounds harsh when it's put that way), but she still got her own happy ending. An apology probably would've been nice as well, though.

So yeah, favourited and I'm looking forwards to reading the rest of your fics.

This story is like the realtimes story. In our fantasy all things that become wrighting in books, here or anwere can be real. You have done a grait job.

Content: :yay: This is brilliant, there's nothing else I can say about it.

Effectiveness: :rainbowlaugh::raritycry: I love stories that can make you burst out laughing and bring you to tears. There is so much emotion in this, and it really pays off.

Memorabilia: :yay: Seriously. It's these sorts of fanfics that made me fall in love with MLP, and it's these sorts of fanfics that are probably going to stay with me forever.

Continuity: :pinkiehappy: You really dug into the fandom here, especially with a certain character's history. Dash burning books -again-? I'm gonna have to guess that's a reference to -something- so go you!

Overall: :raritystarry:

Have all my yays... ALL OF THEM!

:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:
