French and Russian versions!

Author's Note:

Christmas 2015

The amount of love this fic keeps getting getting two years after it was first written is pretty incredible to me! Here we are once again with another translation, and once again the amount of effort it must have taken is astonishing.

System, along with his friends, have taken the effort to rework the story into French, and the results are beautiful. I honestly find it difficult to express my gratitude, but I felt the least I could do was link their version of the story.

You can find it here.

Go read! :pinkiehappy:

Original note from Christmas 2014

Wait, what? I guess a little explanation is needed here.

Way back in September, I was contacted by Lalieri (Tails_Doll) who wondered if he and Newlifer could translate the story into Russian. I said yes. How could I not? And apart from one message asking where I got the paper for Santa Hooves' letters, that was the last I heard from them.

Until last night, when they sent me a link to a Russian brony website.

I don't speak a word of Russian, but the amount of effort that's obviously gone into this is... well... it's incredible! Though I can't get across my amazement that someone thought the story was worth this kind of treatment, I figured that putting it alongside the original was the least I could do.

So to anyone who reads Cyrillic, enjoy! And to those who don't, at least check out how awesome Sweetie's signature looks in Russian :raritystarry:

Да, Эплблум, Санта Хувс существует

Переводили: Newlifer, Tails_Doll

Помогали: Веон, Гапаот, Многорукий Удав, DoktorAkcel,
Hantim, Icenight, Yarb, и многие другие. Тепла им и счастья!

That's just awesome.

The original was great, and I really enjoyed the Russian version too. It's fascinating reading two versions of them, and I still love the concept and execution of hand (hoof) written letters.

Amazing. At moments like this I'm happy I've learnt Russian.

4190342 What a lovely little review -- it made my day, I wasn't expecting it at all! Thanks very much. And I'm glad you enjoyed the story

This warmed my icy heart.

4997370 Glad you like it!

... Also, your username makes me so happy for reasons too daft to get into here. Never, ever change it!

5008352 Haha, thank you!

I wrote a review of this story here.

Wow, these ponies are pretty demanding of a guy who gives them free presents every year!

I liked this, but the above kinda nagged at me, and I didn't find Applejack believable

5697090 That's a fair comment. I was mainly going by my own memories of Christmas -- goodness knows I was demanding of Father Christmas (it's pretty embarrassing to think about it these days). But then again, it kind of changes the dynamic when Santa Claus actually exists in this story. I hadn't thought of it like that before.

I read this story a while ago and listened to Scribbler's reading of this, and I gotta say, this story's really heartwarming!:heart::heart::twilightsmile:

Now we've known the CMC addresses! Yay!

How is it like to know that as of the time of this comment's posting, this story is the top-rated story on the site. I'll say, it was quite the immersive story, believable, well executed, and formatted.

6273940 Wait, it was?! Darn, I never even noticed!

Thanks for the comment and the fav

6277770 Yeah, it's pretty cool, and an accomplishment as far as I'm concerned.

A reference to the popular editorial "Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Clause," but taking quite a different direction from that serious piece. Applebloom writes a letter to Santa, begging for a Cutie Mark, and gets back...a form letter. And a pretty rude one, at that! Letters go back and forth, with Applejack becoming involved, until Santa--or whomever handles his mail--has a big PR disaster on his hooves!

A fun dig at corporate culture, and especially at the corporate takeover of Christmas. Who knew even Equestria had to deal with....shudder...bureaucracy....

7797481 Forgive me, I totally forgot to reply to this!

In fact, I actually completely agree with your criticism, since it's something I thought myself even at the time of writing. Unfortunately, I was also totally burnt out by the time I reached Santa's letters, and I just... couldn't work up the energy to add in that extra letter or two that would have made all the difference. It's my main regret with this story. Christmas had already come and gone by the time I published this, but even so, I should've left it alone for another month, then come back to it with fresh eyes and renewed motivation. Egh.

Still! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the lovely comment! :pinkiehappy:

I'm glad I read this over Christmas, as I really do think that makes a difference. I don't have much to add over and above what others have said: I think the first half of this is wonderful, and the presentation only makes it better, but it loses a little oomph after Santa's long letter. Still a very good Hearth's Warming tale, though. A shame the Russian version appears to have died: I don't speak Russian, but it would have been cool to see!

7843170 Yikes! I didn't notice that the Russian version had vanished. I've fixed it now, in any case.

Also, glad you enjoyed it! I can't believe this thing's almost four years old but that people are still reading it. Makes me feel like I really did something right with it

7844805 Ooh, thanks! I do indeed love Sweetie Belle's Cyrillic signature!

7844805 you have some extra "h"s in tags.

7849173 Arg, I should've taken more care with it -- I redid the links, then quickly scrolled through to make sure things were in the right order. I guess I scrolled through a bit too quickly :facehoof: :facehoof:

Fixed!

This is almost dangerously cute. There should be a warning label! Sweetie Belle's response to Gloomy Skies had me cackling! Very well done.

Been a while since I read this, and this story is still one of the most heartwarming and well-done stories on the site.

Glitter in the hands of the young should be treated as a felony. Well, unless they're writing to someone I don't like, in which case, here's half a kilo of the stuff, knock yourself out.

The amount of effort that went into this, the corporate weasels at the North Pole just out to make a bit, the Power of Friendship winning in the end - fantastic story!

I read this long ago and never commented. More the fool me. This was a lovely bit of holiday cheer, and the method of using scanned, unique letters gave a wonderful character to it.

No worries! If anything, it makes me happy to still be getting comments on it so long after it was published. Especially when they're as nice as this :raritystarry:
