Thunderscourge

Hi there! Thank you for checking out my work, and I hope you find something to enjoy. Comments and PMs are always welcome, and I love hearing from readers!

Based on the villain song of the same name, The Moon Rises by Ponyphonic, which you can listen to here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPjVCIX5Fvs&feature=channel&list=UL

After years and years of serving ponies across Equestria, after defeating Discord and after restoring Harmony, Princess Luna is happy with her life. She understands that ponies need to use her night to prepare for their coming day, and she lives content with the knowledge that they all can appreciate her nights like she does if they so wish.

Come some careless remarks and ill timed events, Luna begins to doubt herself and the value ponies place in her night. As has been done before, this is a story detailing the fall of Luna from grace and of her becoming the villainess known as Nightmare Moon.

As is my policy, OC's are background characters only and but one appears to fill out the ranks of the cast (Luna, Celestia, Blueblood's ancestor and Starswirl the bearded would be a small cast, no?).

As this is my first serious story, I would greatly appreciate any feedback I could receive.

Both of these songs were amazing when I first heard a while back. I'm glad that someone is trying to get the story behind them written. I'm working on my own fic about Luna's fall from grace, but it is not so closely tied to these songs. So good work and keep it up.

Thought for the day: "Ignorance is no excuse."

Thank you very much! I am glad that you enjoyed it. The songs am basing this on are just amazing and I too thought that they deserved a written adaption for themselves
Poor Woona...she's going to need some  in our stories, isn't she? Too bad we can't hug her :applecry:
Next chapter should be out by next Wednesday at the very latest. I hope you will enjoy it too!
Awesome icon by the way :pinkiehappy:

thanks. I'm a big 40k nut in addition to liking mlp. My luna story won't be updating for a while but if you want to see the first chapter its up. It's called the Shadow of War. And while I won't just show Celestia as the sole reason for Luna's fall, because she wasn't, I will hold no punches either. Honestly after re-watching the show and considering everything I feel that Luna had a lot more justification for what she did than was let on. Oh well, back to the grind.

Celestia was not the sole cause, just as you said, but as the most important person in Luna's life she did have quite a hand (hoof, hehe) in the downfall. Luna would be petty if Celestia was her sole reason for what happens, but it'll be a little of everyone's fault leading to this thing and another. Hopefully you'll enjoy the culmination of events! I am working on the next chapter right now, so it might be out this weekend.

After seeing the series, thinking about it, and seeing what other people have to say on the subject I have one idea about the whole Luna not putting the moon down thing...why couldn't they just share the duties of sun and moon? Celestia did the moon for 1000 years, so you would think that as long as Luna could do the sun they could be perfect equals in the eyes of their subjects...but nope, didn't turn out that way sadly.

You have very good thoughts of the day.:rainbowderp:

I am a 40K nut myself but due to real life circumstances I have been seperated from my Warhammer things for over a year now. This saddens me greatly :pinkiesad2:

I think Celestia enjoyed the 1000 years without her sister... and the way she let off boredom is to troll others (her sister included and her most faithful student Twilight... who she did not even apologize to at the wedding for not listening to her, instead she gives her a lesson review... typical of a hypocrite)

Celestia certainly did little to stop her sister's descent into darkness, and in the canon of the song "Lullaby for a Princess" it was truly her own haughty attitude and neglect of Luna that caused it. As sorry as Celestia might be for what she did, she still was the one who got off easily. Luna was faced with public disapproval and then banishment, Celestia was faced with adulation and love and then 1000 years without the sister she let fall. Sure, losing her sister for a millennium must have been painful, but it is hardly comparable to being left alone on a rock for 1000 years with nopony to talk to and nothing to do.
There actually is a good fix-it fic where Celestia and the other characters apologize to Twilight after the wedding. Can't remember the name right now, but it was well done and sure as heck made the characters feel more genuine.

Why is Starswirl Celestia's apprentice? Celestia and Luna, from the backstory given during Hearth's Warming Eve, weren't even present during the founding of Equestria. The episode with Hearth's Warming Eve implied that Starswirl was either very old or dead when Equestria was founded, not young, or possibly middle-aged, as he is described here.

1462189 Because I saw Hearth's Warming Eve three months ago along with almost all the other episodes and have not had the chance to re-watch them all since? Because he is one of the only known ponies from before the main series and I wanted to use some kind of canon character? Because Luna was able to recognize Twilight's costume of Starswirl, hinting that maybe she had seen him in a similar garb before? :twilightsheepish:

Oh, and am I the only one who thinks it weird that Discord (who pretty much wrecked the world and possibly killed ponies given the recollection shown of his reign) gets to sit in the garden while Luna gets sent to the moon for simply refusing to lower the moon because she felt under appreciated?

Sure Discord got a little statue of himself in a garden, Luna got her face plastered across the moon. Luna got more admiration (still lived on in the minds of the ponies) while pretty much everypony forgot about Discord.

Now on to the story. :rainbowwild: I really am loving it so far. You made me think that Luna was going to flip this chapter; good twist. Keep up the great work on this!

Beautiful. I should be doing homework but this was too good to ignore. Good work and keep it up. Also, Luna was forgotten as well considering that not a single pony remembered anything about her except for Celestia and Twilight and even Twilight only knew Nightmare Moon. Though my head canon for what being trapped in stone is like is horrific so Luna didn't get off easier or better. Oh well. Keep up the good work my friend.

This goes out to Celestia's assurance that everything will get better with time:
Thought for the day: "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."

Haha, I'm glad that you are enjoying the story I am relieved that I managed to mislead at least one person (sorry :twilightsheepish: ) in regards to Luna flipping out or not. It's really my thing to take my time...like a romance story I wrote taking 55 chapters to get to the romance so that I could build the characters from scratch before getting to that stuff. Don't think it'll take me quite so long here :twilightsheepish:
Anyways, I am happy you are enjoying the story so far and I hope you continue to do so!

Mind giving us an update on the progress of the next chapter? I hope that this story is still alive, but it's been quite awhile. Thanks :twilightblush:
