"Only the most subtle of references." -No fanfiction writer ever

Flash Sentry is a noble pony. A loyal member of the Guard. His record is spotless; his image pristine.

He is praised by his bosses and adored by his squadmates.

His life is on a clear and unobstructed upward trajectory.

Until he has the terrible misfortune to wake up one morning and find his life overturned by a simple, dreadful declaration:

I Want To Play A Game.

The true horror came in the ending. The beginning was classic slasher horror, but the ending is what led me to give it an upvote.

There is a single typo, but overall, this story is very well-written. The single typo is the use of 'it's' here: "The fabric fur was worn and matted, it's mane in messy disarray."

Thanks and fixed! Those always tend to slip by me and the spellchecker's often just as bad. Glad you liked the story!

Certainly an interesting concept. Was the part of it referencing Flash's relationship supposed to be a reference to the Equestria Gils Flash, or just a delusion? While the crossover property is obviously Saw, I suggest considering mentioning that in the description.

Thanks for reading! Regarding your question, yes, her accusations are true, but she got the wrong person. Twilight of course told her about her adventures, but she misunderstood a few details.

I feel like the iconography in the cover conveys the crossover well enough. Even then, it's more an inspiration than a proper crossover.

Thank you! I know very little about Equestria Girls. What you did seemed pretty clever. :twilightsheepish:

Not at all. The cover signifies nothing to me even though I am familiar with Saw. I recognize Flash Sentry's logo, a wall and a spiral.

I realized this was referencing Saw from the tag line, "I want to play a game," followed by the storyline setup. But, many people will not be familiar with the property. It maybe helpful to mention the movie/series' name so people less familiar with it can still look it up (although I suppose there is some wisdom in perhaps not exposing people to imagery from this particular horror series :pinkiegasp:). That said, it is obviously up to you whether to directly mention it. :derpytongue2:

As to inspiration v. crossover for tagging - the crossover tag is a strange one. One would not think it could encompass "inspiration", but according to site rules, inspiration is encompassed. I can understand why one would shy away from using it in this situation, although I think it could be helpful:

Crossover - Basically fanfiction for multiple fandoms at the same time, drawing from two or more sources for the story’s ‘canon’. Naturally, one of the fandoms in question must be MLP:FiM or Equestria Girls in order to meet general posting rules of the site.
