A series of mini stories exploring the relationship between Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. Most will be romantic in nature.

Also, unless otherwise noted, all the little mini-fics will exist independently of one another. Just to prevent some folks from getting headaches from trying to make all of the stories fit together into one cohesive whole.

Dunno! Kinda had it in the back of my mind that she died youngish, maybe the pony equivalent of early middle age, and died doing something stupid but awesome (or brave and selfless). At any rate, Pinkie and AJ have made their annual visit to the hill many, many times.

Oh, lord, I think I hurt myself from laughing. I can't decide which was funnier -
"Oh, my gosh! The unicorn forces are invading!"
or
"Actually, uh, this is totally what it looks like."
I love how the section told from RD and PP's perspective manages to stay in character the whole time, calling Dash he and referring to them as Chancellor Puddinghead and Commander Hurricane, even when Twilight interrupts them.
That was a nice change of pace from the bittersweet tone of other recent chapters. Don't get me wrong, I like more emotional stories as well, but Pinkie and Dash deserve to be happy and silly together. But hopefully they remember to lock the door the next time they have roleplaying night.

So glad you found it funny! I'm always nervous doing comedy. It's been said, and I tend to agree, that comedy is harder than drama, so I always worried that what seems funny in my head won't seem funny on the page.
And Pinkie and Dash totally DO deserve to be silly and happy. And I always start with the intention of writing something like that, and then I end up killing off characters or having characters die without having confessed their eternal love or something.
I think romantic angst is my kryptonite.
Ha, that's exactly what my spouse said. But I think Twilight will try to confiscate and burn the costumes, just for the sake of vengeance.
I love the whole Papa Wolf vibe Mr. Cake has going on; it was there in Not Unless You Mean It, too, I think. I've never seen that characterization of him before, but that's my new headcanon.
This chapter, though short, was seriously adorable. Love at first sight, I guess.

"Mr. Cake = disapproving of Rainbow Dash" is totally my personal head canon, which is why it's snuck its way into two different stories. I mean, I love RD to death, but she totally gives off a heart-breaker vibe.
In contrast, my head canon for Mrs. Cake is "Mrs. Cake = already picking out china patterns for RD and Pinkie's wedding." I have no idea why.

Damn. Just... damn. This whole story has been so much more beautiful then I ever could have hoped for - and it just keeps getting better.
I have to say, however, that I am now absolutely terrified of each and every upcoming chapter. Not only do I dread the day when we must inevitably return to the hilltop where the cold wind sighs, I outright fear to learn when and where the survivors are ultimately laid to rest.

Don't feel dumb! It wasn't obvious from the song lyrics alone. I might write an intra-episode story about their time in the desert at some point--they ended up being just fine, but before Spike appeared to reassure them, it must have been pretty scary for them, I'd imagine.
Ha! They're song lyrics. And yeah, this collection is rather eclectic and hodge podge. I'm kinda just playing around here, trying a bunch of different things on, just for kicks. Unfortunately, I think that means there's been some unevenness of quality. Sorry about that.
Thank you very much! To be clear, each chapter is a stand-alone--though if you can craft a coherent timeline using all ten pieces, I doff my cap to you in awe and wonder. Also, I'm going to try to steer things a bit more towards the fluffier end of the spectrum, as this series has been a bit more sturm und drang than I imagined it would be.
Really? I thought it was a real effort to use the fractured, non-linear storyline method, e.g., B to Y to C to X to D to E to A to Z (or the slightly happier Z to A finish). Mayhap I have been inferring my own timeline to it, but it works either way! :D
Sturm und Drang ist nicht immer böse, aber nur meistens. ;) Yet a softer bent would be less of an emotional roller-coaster. (It doesn't help that I am a hopelessly-addicted Pinkamena/Pinkie Pie fanatic, with PinkieDash being my favorite ship for her.) Regardless, this has had both fan-emotional value and genuine literary value (even if unintentional), and I look forward to every bit of it.
Alas, no, it's not. Though I really do like non-linear story-telling as a literary technique, and I really OUGHT to do a story using that. Feel free to infere your own timeline, though, if you'd like! (I think almost all of the pieces can be made to fit--I think it's mostly just "But Where Do They Bury the Survivors?" that makes it difficult.)

The main reason I killed Pinkie? I am rather too much in love with symmetry, and I killed off Rainbow back in "But Where Do They Bury the Survivors?" Therefore I needed some Dashie grief (with a side-order of Twi angst) to balance out the earlier Pinkie grief (with side-order of Applejack angst).
That tickles the cockles of my heart. They are now hard as pig-iron. No. That's so wrong on at least fourteen levels. Let me try again.
The USS Pinkydash is one of my favorite seagoing vessels, and you have captained her with astonishing grace. The waters were a little choppy, as is common in the route the ship takes, but you brought it home to port with excellent skill.

Good, good, you have redeemed yourself. You have delivered silly dashpie with a side of rarijack. You may live this day. Please do not hit me with more pinkie deaths this week, "Loss" just hit me with fluttercide and if one more person kills a pony I will contact dark forces and go on a killing spree with pinkie. she's still pissed about applejack's promise breaking, she will do it.
>>159185 Actually The good ship USS Pinkiedash... well it really doesn't matter how choppy the waters are around it. It's staffed with the two most energetic ponies ever... if the ship's a-rocking most times its nothing to do with waves around it. More likely it's causing the choppiness. I think Pinkie stores those cakes in a dark space pocket somewhere and it just fuels her FTL/Antigravity/teleportation. And Dash seems to be powered by pure awsumtanium.

Yep, I'm pretty sure every tiny fiber of your being is currently holding an amount of skill that outmatches almost any other. That chapter was amazing, and I don't see why you're hesitant on comedy. If anything, you have a better grasp on it than most comedy stories I've read.
I may be a tad late, the SS PinkieDash has set sail and has embarked on it's revolutionary voyage, but is there room for one more passenger to hop on board? If not, you may want to check for stowaways...
That's one hell of a typo. You spelled "pathetic" instead of "godlike" on the last line there. And if I were you, I'd call the theoretical Rarijack drabble collection "Of Apples and Diamonds" instead of "Of Apples and Fashion." I dunno why. I just...I just like that one better. Don't judge me.

I agree that "Of Apples and Diamonds" is a better title, but I've gone and changed my mind and decided to expand my story idea into a general series of shipping stories (excepting RainbowPie, which will continue to go here, because I write way way too much RainbowPie). Not sure on a name, yet, though.

You're apologizing for an installment in your series being sad when the writing was effin' brilliant?
Never, ever apologize for quality: whether it's heartbreak or fluff. The prose, the structure, the way you threw off readers with the initial storm, not through deliberate misdirection but by purposeful understatement to put more heft into the narrative arc (or at least I misunderstood the nature of the story because I wasn't thinking clearly when I first read it - damn law school), was great. It fact it really puts an interesting perspective on the reaction of the townsfolk and particularly Applejack to Celestia's offer.
And never mind 'symmetry'. If you're examining various aspects of Rainbow and Pinkie's relationship it's perfectly valid to exam how they might handle each other's deaths. You already tried that with Pinkie, and your description of how Dash handled the problem makes perfect knowing her personality. Pinkie, granted after having the benefit of age and time to cope, deals with Dash's death remembering the good times and cracking jokes over a vein of wistful desire and loss. Dash just goes with her passions and is almost utterly absent from this story except for where the weather matches her mood, which is a pretty effective metaphor for that character's feelings.
This was brilliant. Never before had I considered quite the destructive potential of friends unveiling their romance to Rarity with all the fussiness and overbearingness that would entail. (Which is weird because I'm hammering out an idea in my head for a story in which Rarity helps one of the mane six prepare for a date.)

Thanks so much for the review and the kind comments. For what it's worth, I was trying to use understatement at the beginning of "After Every Storm," so yay, apparently that actually came through in the writing.
Also, totally looking forward to your "Rarity helps her friend prepare for a date" story, as there is so much awesome potential in that concept. In fact, in an early draft of one of my RainbowPie stories, I had included a bit where Rarity basically abducts Rainbow Dash and drags her off to the spa after finding out that Rainbow's finally going to go on a Big Official Date with Pinkie Pie but isn't planning to even so much as brush her mane beforehand.
Hmm. I should write more Rarity. Rarity is love.
