I write about griffs. (♀ | Timezone: UTC + 1 | Discord)

E

A long time ago, Equestria was the most prosperous nation in the world. Princess Twilight Sparkle's reign was an age of harmony where creatures of all shapes and sizes lived together. But then, one day, the ponies all disappeared, and so did magic.

In the centuries that followed, the creatures all went their separate ways, but a young changeling named Solifuge dreams of recreating Twilight's utopia. When a kirin named Moonbow Shine crashes her hive's anniversary festival, she's the only changeling willing to talk to her, and together they set out on an adventure that will uncover the secrets of the past...

Or, My Little Pony: A New Generation AU where the Earth ponies are changelings, the unicorns are kirin, and the pegasi are hippogriffs. Inspired by this art by Scribbling Potato. Cover by Little Tigress.

Excellent work on the exchanges, characterizations and story set-up. Yeah, I appreciate the work that went into the subtle alterations into the cultures allowing for the different species. The look at the Changeling culture in this version of the future is great stuff.

Solifuge is obviously the loose analogue to Sunny Starscout (though with slightly better luck as she doesn't resort to as crazy of methods).

Phalanx is obviously the answer to Hitch (especially since he IS referred to as Hitch by accident once)

[“Hence why they’re all still prancing around in their utopia… oh, wait.” Hitch leaned closer to her. “Admit it, Sol, you need to stop living in the past.”]

Viceroy is the analogue to Sprout.

Queen Rostrum is basically Phyllis with Haven's rank.

And Moonbow Shine is the Izzy analogue.

VERY much looking forward to more of this.

11313375 Good catch on the Hitch thing. It took me a while to come up with Phalanx's name, so I used "Hitch" as a placeholder.

Having preread this, this is a solid start with some clever swaps. You did well depicting the changes in a natural way.

Aha, it’s out! And very well polished.

I only just noticed when I reread it with fresh eyes: Solifuge’s nickname, Sol, is Spanish for sun. You clever rascal.

11313525 I was thinking of Latin, but I chose that name specifically because it had a reference to the sun in it. Solifuges are also known as sun spiders.

I'm looking forward to more of this amazing story.

Ooh, interesting premise. I like this story so far, not only because it gives us interesting characters right off the bat (plus the nod to Thor and Phar, the best brothers ever-), but it also gives us something that's been missing from G5 so far-other creatures

Keep up the good work!

Look this image of MLP comic number 102 which is the last and they are canonical from 51 onwards and from 89 to 102 are Season 10 1.bp.blogspot.com/-31aUS1TR5u8/YWcEllIS31I/AAAAAAAAl90/oNf0-qoOO-M0Jh58V9OeyH79qMKOsEKwQCPcBGAYYCw/s999/final_panel.png because you could make the Queen Chrysalis take the place of the Shadow Alicorn

Story coming back to life yay!
Its good ngl

Awww, friends!! Nice to see Viceroy isn't taking the Sprout route too-hopefully, at least. Rostrum did order him to follow her so maybe...

11350179 I dithered over whether to have Viceroy stay behind or not, but eventually decided to have him go with Phalanx because I'm not following the movie beat-for-beat.

All I can say is really good job on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up. Appreciate the effort that is going to into staying true to the general gist of the movie while still working in a pretty fair number of distances. Really appreciated Moonbow being able to fill in a couple of information gaps that Sol's research missed as well as mentioning that she actually has met and helped a few hippogriffs. Also understood Viceroy actually accompanying Phalanx on the search (which probably means Rostrum will be working on security while they are gone). And the detail that, while the magic might have disappeared, the changelings still have some equine-sized-insect abilities (such as being able to fly limited distances), which indicates that, at the very least, the abilities that have nothing to do with magic are unaffected. Which indicates that, even if the hippogriffs can't breathe underwater as well as in the air, they are still probably pretty good swimmers.

Definitely looking forward to more of this.

11350340 The meta-reason why changelings can still fly is because I thought losing their ability to shapeshift was already a huge enough loss. In-universe, pegasi are unique for needing magic to fly, and the laws of physics are just different in this world.

Alright! I always did feel Sprout didn't exactly deserve to be made the villain like that

You should submit this story to EQ Daily

11350426 Unfortunately, they have very strict standards, so I'm too intimidated to.

11350920
Ok I’m crossing my fingers you get in 🤞

Fascinating stuff. I love the stark departures from canon for things like changeling social structure and kirin taboos. Eagerly looking forward to more should it come.

11631967 Ooh, you mean the paper thing.

Also, your comment inspired me to continue writing chapter 3, and yesterday I finished the first scene.

Hey there. Thanks immensely for getting the next chapter to this up. Took a while but was quite well worth the wait. Again, the dialogues, characterizations and future chapter set-up are quite well done. Definitely liked Sol and Moon's chat on the way to Mount Zephyr concerning the differences and similarities in the education and child-rearing systems of their races. Also liked the descriptions of the newer devices of the hippogriffs. The first meetings concerning the analogues of Pipp and Zipp were also well done, especially with the latter helping Moon with the research. Too bad Sol got in a bad spot with the queen. And, yeah, looks like Viceroy is just pulling a "Leeroy Jenkins" (to use a TV Tropes term), much to the frustration of both Phalanx AND the hippogriff guards.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to more of this.

Wahoo! New update!
Once again I have to say how much I'm enjoying this. Obviously your largely following the plot of the movie, but there are enough changes and the premise is different enough to make it feel unique. I especially liked it when Izzy and Sunny Moony and Sol didn't understand modern technology, something that was hinted at in the movie but never really explored.

11735943 I don't remember Izzy and Sunny not understanding technology in the movie.

11736236
What was I meant was that each tribe was supposed to represent a different time period: the unicorns represent the 19th century, earth ponies the 1960s, and Zephyr Heights is obviously the 2020s. So while we didn’t see a scene where they were confused by technology, thematically it would make sense.

Oh boy. I'm sure changelings attacking the gates will go great for Sol's claims of innocence.

In any case, the whole gang's here... or at least has been onscreen. Assembling all of them may take some more time.

Ooh, this is getting interesting! Also, Vice, don't be an idiot-

“No,” said Sol, standing her ground in front of Phalanx. She made eye contact with Moony, flicked an elytra sideways, and winked. Then, she leaped forward, grabbed Viceroy’s polearm, and took off into the skies.

She curled up in a comfortable position underneath the tree and yawned, but shivered when a cold breeze blew past her. “Do you know how to start a fire?”

“Nope!” exclaimed Moony. “But I can do this.” She lay down next to Sol, who huddled closer.
