Being a princess looks like sunshine and rainbows from the outside; but for research-obsessed Twilight Sparkle, being a princess sounds scary, and those new wings aren't helping either!
So she does whatever any stressed bookworm would do, decides to seek advice from the best: successful rulers from the past! But she's not here for bookish research, oh no; she wants to see these rulers in action! Twilight decides to start off at the very beginning, with the first recognized ruler of Equestria: Queen Majesty. But once Queen Majesty catches her and forces the truth out of her, Twilight Sparkle will be dragged into a whirlwind adventure through time. She will have to face old foes, new foes, old magic, and the most powerful magic of all: friendship.

Lol! Yeah a unicorn's horn is called an alicorn while Twilight is used to that being the name for ponies like Celestia.
A fantastic pan-generational crossover. (I do love the implication that they did mess up the timeline, but in the G5 region.) Great comparison of two very different rulers in pony history, along with the common ground they can still find and lessons they can teach one another. Though I'm not thrilled about Equestria Girls apparently not being a thing here. Still, thank you for this and best of luck in the judging.

This is one of the best fanfics I've ever read. You had me crying sad at the bit with the pictures, and then crying happy at Twilight's bit about the importance of kindness, then sniffling again at the end. Kudo's.
I want to add that one of the things I loved most about this is that it pays homage to the original generation while tying all the others together in a graceful way that respects them while still having a bit of fun with them. The moral at the end is well-done, too. It's meaningful without being preachy, plus it avoids the trap of making the villain too one-dimensional. There's a lot of good lessons in this, and they're just subtle enough it doesn't make it too ponderous under the weight of what it's trying to say. Given the fact we're heading into a new generation, it's nice seeing the old ones are still getting lots of love.

Ohhh, very good point! Well, I intended this story to land somewhere amorphously in the middle of the series, before she's very used to her wings and princess-ship - perhaps she simply hasn't left Equestria yet!
