The pony known as Jungle Trek hasn't had the luckiest life so far. Being born in the Tenochtitlan Basin far from the oversight of Canterlot, his "adventures" have consisted of bouncing from one occupation to another, holding himself together while other foals did things like "make friends" or "get an education". Well, Jungle needs none of those things, when he has bits instead!
...Okay, maybe working for Doctor Caballeron isn't exactly a dream job. It does pay well and the archeological stunts are always exciting, but Jungle needs a break from all that. That's why he has his eyes on a new house all for himself, located in a nice, small village called Ponyville. With a full bag of bits in tow, he's ready to start a new life, one far more peaceful than constant trap-dodging and fighting Daring Do.
After all, Ponyville can't have anything special or strange about it to pull him into more adventures, right?

Not entirely sure why he ran in the first place. They alreadty knew that he had previously adventured in Tenochtitlan because he'd told them about it on day one. Dash broke into his house. Why was he running away rather than just walking up and asking Dash why she had his ring?

The bits appear to be gold. Even assuming that they are an alloy he should probably have between three to six thousand US dollars (in my area just enough for an acre of buildable land; which is still a low bar to cross). We also have no idea of the housing market, nor how the market is setup ("putting your hoof down" heavily implies a barter system is still in place), and any laws that might be in place to fund/reduce the cost.
We really have no baseline to compare it to. Based on the prices in the mentioned episode a bit is equivalent to a copper coin in a Dungeons and Dragons world so he would need about three more zeroes before thinking of retirement/landowning.

So it begins! The casual, cozy style you've got going here for Jungle is already... well, cozy, despite the fact that he ends up getting thumped on twice by Daring. I don't think I've seen many fics about any of Dr. Caballeron's henchponies (canon or OC), so this could be quite refreshing.
Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the story!
Pretty much a ticking time bomb now. I don't think Jungle can alibi his way out of it sooner or later, and he'd have to learn how to read fast. Can't just be asking ponies around, though fortunately, Yearling has been mostly truthful about what she's writing.
Here's hoping Rainbow won't be a jerk about it when she does find out, though.
Both tension and just fleshing Jungle out a bit more. It's also interesting to see more ponies who just see Celestia (and Luna, to an extent) as just distant, especially with a lot of fics involving ponies that have been quite close to her (and, well, the show being heavily focused on those ponies).
Also, this just makes me want to see Rainbow finally figure Jungle out.
