This story is a sequel to For Want of an Egg
Centuries ago, Princess Celestia stole a dragon's egg to fulfill a prophecy, and found it necessary to deal with the egg's mother to keep said prophecy from being compromised. But now that the prophecy has been fulfilled, and her time as a princess is over, Celestia decided that it was time for the truth to come out.
It was also time for Celestia to face the consequences of her actions.
Okay I do see how many ways this could have gone different ways if Spike was never around which I don't want it to be but I wouldn't say luna was wrong they could have been another way and yeah it could have been like I said this is a huge mix of this whole situation ok
A truly fascinating and appropriate follow up and intriguing initial read. The twist that Spike's mother was sealed away in Tartarus never even crossed my mind, my thoughts were if Celestia did not kill her she was instead turned to stone. Yet, I feel like this is an even worse fate for the dragoness since she was locked up for almost a thousand years unawares to the fate of her unhatched child.
At least it is a happy ending at least for the offended parties.
I also say that Celestia's poise while being taken away is very appropriate for her character. She still feels what she did was right, but she also acknowledges that she is not truly justified, that she did commit a wrong and she would eventually face judgement for it. Essentially, it was a matter of when rather than if.
I also will say, if it was intended, the use of Luna to present the counter argument of other possibilities is very symbolic. That the night would seek a calmer and more peaceful solution to a situation that was, in the end, met with firry aggression by the day. I might be reading into it too much (not like that's a first), but I digress.
Overall, a fulfulling a follow up to an already provocitive first story. In the end, have a wonderful and blessed day.
Curious to see if Twilight and Spike's mom can get along. Twilight filled that role for so long..
Has to count for something. Even if they never were never mother and son or acted like it.
Got no name ideas sadly.
I honestly don't care what her name is, and Spike Mr. "We're better than that, we're better than her" only feels that way because of him being raised in a pony society.
In these two stories I hate everyone but Celestia
Dang ok wow so as much as I really don't want to paint her as a villain so I'm just going to treat this as a alternate story but this was pretty good sad but good anyway Celestia and Luna having their conversation about what Celestia did and of course Luna is not happy what she's done and despite all the time she doesn't hate her but she can never forgive her after that long conversation between them Celestia woken up and they finally made it to the Tartarus Gates with dragonlord ember Twilight sparkle and spike is there and they are Beyond angry of what she's done she even punch her but apparently there was two of them and we all know that's thorax so they can't tell which one punch her and was that they both left leaving Twilight and Spike leading her to the cell but it looks like we found out that actually the Mother Dragon is action alive but was in prison for a thousand years and reunited with Spike after all these years the Mother Dragon wants to kill her but Spike stopped her and telling her that she needs to face Justice for all the things he's done so with that Celestia was in the cage but she wants to know the name of the female dragon but she refused to give her that and with that Celestia will spend her rest of her years in prison.
Then what is she implying?
She does have a point.
If she’s not gonna hold a grudge then why is she getting more aggressive?
Happy accidents?
What the hell?
Wait, so stealing an egg is illegal?
Really? Also, technically she didn’t sacrifice her own.
Is there a difference between justice and revenge?
oh this is just pure irony because of G5
.....hmmm i wonder if there will be a 3rd story to this given what happens in g5 how would celestia react knowing after her release equestrias magic is gone and all the species are now separate again once she i dunno found by sunny and her friends

It's like Fate took a massive punch in her heart, and then kick her private parts repeatedly! 😈
Slight spoiler ahead:
Her name should be female dog because what a female dog her and everyone else was here. If she were dead I’d still say this was still written a little too revenge fic like with OOC main characters forming a one dimensional hate mob. That dragonmom’s just been in jail in pony hell all these years just makes it seem too much and by the end, I felt like just putting Celestia in regular prison for a few years would have done just as well seeing as she’s not a cold blooded killer and all. You did get me to sympathize with Celestia a lot to the point where, if I were in her situation, I can’t say I’d do anything different (well, besides maybe try sock the two embers back in return for the suckerpunch). I guess that’s my main criticism here. You made Celestia a sympathetic and completely understandable character while everyone else became way too flat and angry. That spike’s mom wasn’t dead but locked up really takes a lot of the leeway I was willing to give the other characters in their actions to celestia. Kidnapping and false imprisonment is one thing but murder/kidnapping is something on a whole different level, something I would at least personally feel justified the actions of everyone to celestia and her punishment.

I think about this sometimes is revenge any different from justice? I don't really know.
One thing I know strictly speaking this is not a part of your comment but I find when people beg for clemency in these storys. Because I do not recall any in the fiction I have read. Though I could very well be wrong. So maybe? It seems more to be the realm of fanfiction. Convenience of story?
Pause observation!
After reading the story. The story conveys themes better and the forgiveness is used well here so though my point is about forgiveness and its narrative convenience. This story does not have that problem. I really wanted to send my thoughts someomes way to see what they think. You seem like astute chap, So I decided to share.
Unpause! Onwards to my actual observation!
The act of forgiveness seems to me...is immortalized and put on a pedestal. Where for me, it looses almost all meaning?? What do you think?? I.e denying and not truly confronting wrong doing and deep internal rooted trauma.
Further adding that authors use of forgiveness whispers of the authors inability to convey and show more complex and nuanced emotions then just blanket acceptance of misdeeds and a sorry.
For instance with said added nuance the societal repercussions would and could be larger. The broader strands of the main characters would shift and perhaps the authors vision would be tarnished from new found brass to a shiny bronze?
Thus not taxing the authors budding skills, imagination and experience? Maybe?
You raised good points. I'm curious what you think of my own. If I am not made myself clear or you vehemently disagree, please tell me why.
Or that Florax the jelly fish lives in my brain. :)
Anyway thank you and happy commenting!
Ps. Have good night!
10703616
Wow, that was a lot. But, something I remember someone telling me is that now and days people don’t know how to forgive. So that may factor in.
10703624
Cool thank you for your kind response! I think this also true as well.
I always wonder in these stories what happens if the victim decides not to listen to a bunch of platitudes. It's always worded as though they have a choice. If Spike's mom takes Celestia's head over Equestria's table scraps, what then?
10703663
Although, there were some things I was confused about, but that might have been because of your grammar.
10703676
I’m pretty sure nothing.
10703695
Really, nothing?
10703700
I mean, celestia got punched in the face and no one bat an eye, so I assume so.
10703706
She deserved it anyway. Plus, Thorax and Ember shouldn't be in trouble for it.
10703721
But that’s my point. If she didn’t bat an eye at that, then what makes you think she’s gonna do something if the mother decides to burn celestia to a crisp?
10703735
Personally, I think that the Mother Dragon deserves at least ONE slash against Celestia. Not to kill her, just hurt her REALLY BADLY!!!
10703824
And she would have done it if spike didn’t step in.
10703824
I disagree
Melodrama
10704028
Would you mind explaining?
10703845
True, Celestia is luckily that Spike is a "Pacifist". Because, I won't give the same mercy!
10704028
10704254
I agree with Pete, WHY?! I mean, your are unjustly trapped in a prison cell of Tartarus for a THOUSAND YEARS!!!!! Just because, your trying to protect your child?! What would you do, if that were to happened to you?!
P.S. Enough with the ridiculous dislikes! I know I'm right that Celestia deserves that punch ( and more). And Both Thorax, Ember, and especially Spike's Mom are justified to punish Celestia in their own painful ways.
10704406
Anyone who values Spike as he is would not be wanting to punish Celestia, unless they're very shortsighted and have a limited grasp of cause and effect
10704418
I’m not sure I understand. Do you mind explaining a little more?
10704418
Then what about Thorax and Ember? They did have a point. And Celestia still deserve that ONE Punch. Okay!
10704443
Are you gonna keep mentioning the punch?
10704505
I'm commenting about comments, someone said slash, not punch and they wanted her to be hurt really badly.
and what I mean, nature vs nuture. We've seen dragons with how they're normally raised, we've seen adults, we've seen teens.
Spike raised as a typical dragon would probably never be in position to meet Thorax, let alone give a damn about him
10704543
So, are you trying to justify what celestia did?
10704548
I don't care what Celestia did, these stories did not succeed in their goal of that. Others have done worse and been forgiven. I hate the others far more than Celestia after this. I hate the message that comes out, if you do something bad don't have anything positive to gain from it. Do it because you're selfish and/or controlling and don't give a crap about others. Then the good people with forgive you, and you can condemn them cause they're not perfect
10704562
Ohh. So you’re saying it’s not right that celestia gets punished when others have done worse and got away with it. You also mention some goal?
10704505
Sorry, just want to get the point across. Are you a bit annoyed that I keep saying it though?
10704543
I'm actually the one that said "Slash" in the first place. But, mainly because Dragons got Big Claws. And if I was a Dragon, I rather use my sharp claws than my own fist. 😼
10704575
It seems like these two stories want me to judge Celestia negatively. They didn't. That's the goal I was talking about
10704602
It’s a little annoying.
10704624
And the reason it didn’t is because others have done worse?
10704629
Sorry. It's just Celestia did deserve that.
10704632
actually no, I'm just pointing it out to the ones who are condemning her. It just didn't touch me. I felt nothing regarding what Celestia did, but then there's all these others pointing out how terrible it was both in comments and in the stories
10704660
I won’t deny that, but she did take that punch like a champ.
10704694
I think it has something to do with being biased.
10704697
True, but Celestia knows that she deserves this punishment at least. She is regretful, but sadly her relationship with everyone/everypony is most definitely down the drain. I doubt that the Pony Population will "praise" her ever again for this. Plus, it might stain the relation of the Ponies a bit to both the Dragons and Changelings too ( Considering Ember and Thorax are in charge).
10704755
I doubt it. I don’t think there the type of person to judge ponies based on celestia.
10704758
You mean Ember and Thorax? True. But, I doubt that every Dragon or Changelings that likes Spike will feel the same thing.
10704795
Of course. There’s always that one group that thinks alike.
The dragoness' name...I vote either Amethyst or Jade
Also, way to go Thorax and Ember! The story itself, and it's prequel, are amazing, but I have to admit that by far I was most impacted by seeing Thorax and Ember's actions. Thorax cast aside his usually peaceful nature for his friend, and Ember was willing to talk about her feelings towards Celestia in order to express just how angry she was because of what happened to Spike. This impacted me the most, though I'm not completely sure why, it might be because it's Celestia's "plan" coming back to bite her. Or punch her. But in any case, their last lines of "it feels good" just struck me, because I knew if I was in either of their places I'd do the exact same and feel the exact same. It really struck a chord with me, and for that made it my favorite passage in the story.
This has been my written a minute before midnight Ted Talk, thank you for reading. I did enjoy the story, great job with it.
10703477
While the elements of a revenge fic are definitely present in this tale, it strikes as more of an 'accusation' fic.
are you trying to say Hasbro could've removed Spike from the show, and nothing would change? Spike Fandom, let's RAGE (i'm kidding)
Well, if Spike was raised as a dragon and not as a pony, he wouldn't have the values, nurturing, and kindness, that helped him get his achievements.
2022 Edit: I may have a slight thought, that perhaps, if the prophecy does call for Spike playing a role for the future, there may have been a different way for him to be a part of the Mane 6's life, without Celestia stealing his egg.
And wow... his biological mother was imprisoned for centuries in the ends of Tartarus. That's supposedly a fate worse than death. And now Celestia will receive an equal & a half sentence to make up for it.
The story's tragedy hurts me that I can't seem to make up the words on what else to say.
Now the question is, what happens after Celestia is set free? What would she do with her life from then on out?
