Hitchin' a ride

E

Rarity has been a leading force in the fashion world for almost her entire life. Now, well into her career, she faces something she never expected.

Short non-sequitur because I felt like writing about Rarity.

This story was amazing. I felt very relatable to this story. It was absolutely touching to my heart with the similarity of this kind of thing happening in real life. I've seen a couple of these moments in my life before in the past. I feel so sad that Rarity isn't pushing through and is easily giving up. There is no doubt that the world does move on sometimes without us.

At least one of the Mane 7 got the picture. The world is forever changing. No matter what we may do to try and keep it as we want it. Either adapt with it. Or whither on the vine and die.

Not literally of course. But that is reality. The fashion Rarity mentioned is hideous for sure. Ponies don't care though, and that's life. Deal with it, drama queen.

Wonder if the rest of the girls got that message. Doubt it. They're too stupid to get with the times, and will forever be Boomers.

I call her a drama queen, but truth be told, sad Rarity just depresses me.

Sometimes people move on.

:moustache: And that's how the Dragon Empire saved the fashion industry
:twilightoops: By burning it to the ground?
:raritywink: By threatening to burn it to the ground
:moustache: I did a great job with the smoky breath and flames!
:facehoof: You two are driving me to drink!
:rainbowlaugh: Do I hear free cider!

I'm glad you liked it! It's not really analogous to anything specific in my life, but I think everyone can relate to the idea a little. Things change all the time, and everyone deals with it their own way. Moving on is a part of life, for better or worse, and how we deal with it can affect us deeply.

With no context, Rainbow would think boomer is a compliment. :rainbowlaugh:

I get where your idea comes from though. A lot of time it seems like people; all too often those who are in charge, are out of touch, and it can be frustrating. Rarity's problem is much more personal, and I wanted to leave it in the air if her quitting is ultimately good or bad for her.

I could see this happening to Rarity with this outcome. Then her friends come together and utterly destroying the competition.

I really like this. It could be longer, but doesn't need to be, so it isn't. It just captures a very specific moment/feeling, of discovering one's own obsolescence. That through no fault of our own, we can just- not be relevant anymore

Honestly I feel there should be a second chapter were she moves on to something new and has as much zeal for the new hobby as she did dresses, she finished for fashion but that doesn't mean she cant start fresh with something else

High Fashion is in the past. Onwards to low fashion! Like what is sold at Barnyard Bargen's and Marecys. For ponies that want to wear something practical, instead of wearing art that can't fit through a door.
