Liquid Truth

Life's still pretty great

Scything can be hard, especially if you don't have two spare appendages for holding things. And although the Grim Reaper is bipedal, he knows enough about scythes to teach filly Applejack on its proper usage.

Wonderful little contemplative tale. Thank you for it.

So...

AJ is on friendly terms with death himself, eh?

Nice.

Also, I can see the analogy between scything and death here. Very, very nice story.

Excellent execution of a highly creative premise. Love it!

I love it. It's simple, but that's good. It does a whole lot with just a little.

Wonderfully done.

Apples don't fear the reaper, nor do the sun, the moon or the rain.

That figures. Of everyone in a society, I think the farmer must be the most familiar with death. After a fashion, everything they do is a contest with the Reaper. Without care, crops die. Without care, livestock dies. Without care, family, friends, neighbors and who can guess how many others die. Sometimes, those things die even with care.

But it's not personal. With the Reaper, it's never personal. It's not a job, either. It's just the way things have to be. Never personal with the farmer, either. Not really a job, when you really look at it. Just the way things have to be.

Ever wonder if the Reaper's just always there? Farmer helps plants, livestock, family, friends and neighbors all grow until it's their time. Maybe it's the same way with the Reaper and us?

Anyway, food for thought.

Chilling. This was a really great read, thanks a lot.

We can be like they are.

Very nice story. Sad, but also beautiful.

From the look of things, the Apples got Mortimer himself. And who cares for the harvest, if not the Reaper Man?

Of course there's likely a Death of Ponies, but this clearly wasn't the Pale Horse.

This jogged my memory of another story about Death.

is it wrong i read the reaper's dialogues with a minor Jamaican accent?

This remind me of another old story.

Or the more recent one;

Everypony has their secrets. Twilight never imagined those her own best friends might be hiding from her, until one of her new duties as a princess brought her stumbling headlong into a side of Equestria she never even knew existed.

Have you read Pratchett’s Reaper Man? In it he cuts hay with his scythe, but he does so one blade of grass at a time. One time, one blade. To do more would be rude. After all, what can the harvest hope for, if not for the care of the reaper man?

I unfortunately haven't been able to get my hands on any of the Discworld series but The Colour of Magic, which I haven't finished reading.

No, every story with a Grim Reaper character, I read with a Jamaican accent.

My gosh this is simply a gorgeous story! This certainly left my jaw dropped when I finished this whole fic and I certainly wouldn't mind reading this over and over again! It's just so beautiful! I hope you didn't mind, but I made a lil' reading on this fic of yours!

Well, then you have a mere 40 books to go, every one a masterpiece. I envy the experience that you have awaiting you, of reading each one of them for the first time. You’ll find Death as a character is wonderfully persistent throughout. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely lovely.

To paraphrase quote Death from The Book Thief "I am haunted by humans. But yeah, I oddly got Discworld Death vibes from this

Not at all. Mind if I put the link up in the description?

But of course! Thank chu! Tis your story after all, and quite a spectacular one at that!

Strangely wholesome.

Ha I see what you did there. You used the character death tag as a makeshift death the character tag

I enjoyed the depiction of young Aj and Aj thats lived a life.

Quite good, quite good!
I like AJ and the Reaper being ..... friendly? We'll go with friendly.
A few other stories have similar setups and it seems very natural. Really, it IS very natural. Anyone who's spent time on a farm will know death a little better.
It seems like a thing that ought to be it's own trope. It's own group maybe. Is it? I haven't looked lately. god knows I'm in enough groups as it is.
Sorry if I'm a little scatterbrained. I'm the primary on call for work ATM so my work phone might ring at any minute and it always makes me jumpy.
In summary: good job!

I know that I'm replying to an old comment, but if you're still looking for Diskworld books, I've found a few audiobooks on YouTube.
