Bookish Delight

I've moved on from Fimfiction. New works on AO3!

Juniper Montage and Wallflower Blush get together in the local park for a walk. That's all.

...okay, maybe Wallflower might have asked to see Juniper for a special reason. And maybe they both need to get their minds off of crippling past regrets and relationship uneasiness.

But for now? Just walking.

Part of the Montage Cinematic Universe.

Never breaking her gaze at Juniper, Wallflower’s right hand trailed down to thumb the juniper berry pin fastened to the chest of Juniper’s coat.

Depending on however the heck personal symbols work in this world, that could be an incredibly intimate gesture in and of itself...

In any case, magnificent Bookish goodness throughout. Thank you for some fantastic character interaction and refutation of Hollywood romance in favor of something more meaningful.

I don't normally dig into relationship fics, but that cover art is too adorable for me to resist. Bring on the wholesomeness!

I like the prose at the beginning of the chapter. Whimsical and serves its purpose of good pacing well.

The dialogue later is cute and very purposeful. Liking it.

Onto the next!

Like the story about Weird Al er Cheese Sandwich. 'Good natured comedian' is probably the best way to describe him.

All of this talk of winter beauty is making me hope we actually get some snow in my state this year.

“Oh, it’s been tried a few times.” Wallflower snuck an impish look back at Juniper while pushing aside another bush. “But it’s the oddest thing: all these bushes and trees keep growing back as fast as people can get rid of them. Right during the most popular tourist months, too. No one can explain it.”

Some Equestrian magic shenanigans are afoot.

Daws at the last part. Juniper is helping Wallflower see her as an equal instead of lesser than her.

Surprised nothing happened with the constantly regrowing plants, but not every story needs a threat. This one did just fine with its cuteness and saucy but not too saucy ending. Nicely done!

Okay, Wallflower and Juniper are super cute right now.

Okay, that was really sweet. Wallflower using her girl's namesake as the keystone for her newest garden was really lovely. And their frank discussion about what it meant to be in a relationship. Really, beautiful.

There are lots of different varieties of junipers, many named for the different parts of the world they’re native to, and each with their own hue and blossoming style.

Small botanical nitpick: junipers are a type of conifer. As such, they don't blossom since they don't make flowers. Juniper "berries" are the seed bearing cones. Think a tiny, soft, fleshy pinecone, like such.

Naicu. I know what I'm reading at lunch tomorrow. Nice to see you back here.
Did you commission that piece from Bevin?

What's deadly about living in a greenhouse?

I used to visit the conservatory in January quite a bit. Just sitting in the fern room and taking in the warm, humid, oxygenated air is quite a relief from the nostril-scabbing dry, freezing air of midwinter.

There’s so much here that any director could do with this—even me, as green as I am. Pardon the expression.”

Cue the dramatic Lady Snowblood-esque jidaigeki wide-shot. Or maybe Ikiru homage.

Or maybe just a Narnia fan-short.

Starcolts, I love it 😻
And that you didn’t go Starbucks, small detail but really takes me out a story when people name actually places by their irl names

Wait, was this implying that they’re both asexual? Funny story, I mentioned this ship and the responce was thinking they were both such ^^’

Which was great, because Wallflower loved greenhouses. She’d live in one if she could do so without that silly, pesky risk of… what was it again? Oh, right. Death. Talk about your fatal flaws.

I didn’t know death was a risk in a greenhouse.

Wallflower put her phone-friendly gloves back on, took her device out of her coat, and opened her text message window. After reading over the last few messages, she looked around, seeing nothing but white dots and random passersby.

Phone-friendly gloves?

“I still know every barista in this city on a first name basis—well, except for the replacements for those who finally graduated university.

Wait, are they in college?

She turned to look into Wallflower’s eyes, and Wallflower could see them dancing with hope amidst sadness.

What does that mean?

Juniper must have tripped in the show, as Wallflower had barely avoided doing no less than a dozen times. On instinct, Wallflower gasped, running back into Juniper’s path and catching her. The two landed softly below, Juniper on top of Wallflower, the snow-covered grass below them crinkling and crumbling.

What had just happened?

Wallflower nodded, looking towards the forestry that was close to them now. Their snowball fight had carried them closer to their destination faster than Wallflower had predicted.

So, she started a snowball to get to the destination faster?

She looked over at Juniper, who smiled back at her. She wanted to smile as well, and she tried—but her lips felt too heavy to do so.

Instead, the next thing Wallflower knew, she was sniffling, and hugging Juniper as tightly as she could.

Why?

Wallflower refused to waste it. But she also knew she was better at showing than talking. Gift-of-gab was Juniper’s department.

Gift-of-gab?

Not only did Nature have trouble listening, it had trouble remembering. Wallflower always made sure to not share this flaw, especially around those she cared for.

What does that mean?

“Exactly!” Juniper blurted out. “And I like what we have! There’s so little… I guess, pressure? We’re just ourselves, and I don’t want to prove all that stuff right. I don’t want what we have to be that… that shallow !” Juniper threw her arms up. “Relationships aren’t all just kisses and PDA’s and emotional crashburns all the time, are they? They can’t be! They should make sense! They should exist because of things… right?” Juniper looked genuinely confused herself, looking around with her own brand of confusion before letting out a long sigh.

?

Tapdancing right on the line between super romantic and super stalkery XD Fortunately it just comes out as adorable.

Don't panic Wallflower, I get the anxiety but it'll be okay.

And I totally empathize with the outdoor nature thing. I need to find some good non-overcrowded nature spots in the city now it's fall.

So why is this not tagged romance again? Want to make sure I tag correctly as I can for the reading

It’s done ^^’ sorry for the dry run, but felt proud enough to try jt

Of course
Curious to hear what you think in my own comment section if you got time :pinkiehappy:
Also, don’t suppose you could also spread the love around by letting your fans know via a blog or something :twilightsheepish:
Also, I never heard back why this story isn’t marked as romance, so I marked the reading as such hoping it wouldn’t be a big deal :twilightoops:
